    Skipper dismisses skipper?

Sri Lanka seem confident that Harry Brook has been stumped off the bowling of Charith Asalanka.

The England skipper advanced way down the pitch - the umpires are going to take a look, but I'm pretty sure what answer they're going to get.

Losing Duckett and Root has checked England's progress on the worm.

England will need more than just one boundary though.

Three singles come off Dunith Wellalage's seventh over.

    There's a boundary!

Jacob Bethell scores England's first four since the last ball of the 27th over, bringing up England's 150.

Ben Duckett was dismissed from the delivery after that four, and England hadn't breached the ropes since.

Bethell ends that dry spell by crashing Dhananjaya de Silva through mid-wicket.

Two words. Liam Livingstone. The balance of this side needs him in there.

Harry Brook takes a single into the covers off Dunith Wellalage's first ball, then Jacob Bethell faces the remainder of the over without scoring.

One ball turns sharply and Bethell under-cuts on his upper thigh.

We head into drinks with England needing 126 from 96 balls.

Thank god Root is out. He's spent 15 overs to score at four an over.

    Time for the skipper.

Harry Brook blocks his first delivery, then turns the next ball into the leg side to get off the mark.

So that is the big wicket of Joe Root and with it a big question of how will the next few play it. There's just enough time to settle before someone will need to have a big over or two.

All reds - Joe Root has to go! He departs for a 90-ball 61.

The ball came very, very close to pitching outside leg but just gets inside the line, going on to rap Root's pad as tries to send the ball square.

Another lbw from the sweep? Joe Root is struck on the pad by Dhananjaya de Silva.

Nothing from the umpire on this occasion, but after lengthy deliberation Sri Lanka decide they're going to take a look.

  12. Eng 144-2published at 32 overs

    Make that five overs.

Jacob Bethell does try his best, trying to launch Jeffrey Vandersay down the ground.

He gets a lot of height but not the distance and the ball is collected by the rope, with the batters running two.

Ben Duckett can take a great deal from today. England are nicely placed thanks to a bit of graft and sensible cricket. maybe we'll get a Root century and a six wicket win but perhaps just a win will suffice us at the moment.

Four singles off Charith Asalanka's over.

England haven't scored a boundary in the last four overs.

George mate, if we ditched the entire team every time we have a bad series we'd be playing with the Basildon & Pitsea CC thirds within three years.

That is only the second time Ben Duckett has been dismissed playing the reverse sweep in ODIs. Before this, he had scored 66 runs off 33 balls while employing that shot. He struggled with his execution consistently with that shot today, having attempted it six times for just two runs and a dismissal.

A leg-side wide and a single to mid-wicket bookend five dot balls from Jeffrey Vandersay to Jacob Bethell.

Double your score at 30 overs is the adage - that's 270, two short of England's target.
