Two weeks on from the end of the Ashes, England go again. Different format, different kit, different country, different captain. There’s a very solid turnout of away support – England fans were forming a long queue outside the venue two hours before the start of play. I’ve seen two Port Vale flags and one Stoke City – good to see the Potteries travelling well. The crowd is building steadily – it’s a hot day in Colombo. We’re expecting it to be full later on.

It’s a different setting for England in a different format and frankly, a much‑needed fresh start after a bruising Ashes campaign.
