    Oooof, that turned a lot.

Jeffrey Vandersay's fifth delivery rips past the bat of Joe Root and Kusal Mendis whips off the bails.

The England batter is comfortably in his crease, but the Sri Lanka spinner will be very happy with his efforts in that over.

Ben Duckett demonstrating two things. Firstly, he's an excellent one-day player. Secondly, he has no business being in the Test side.

    Gone!

No sign of an edge and it's all reds on the ball-tracking.

A good innings from Duckett but a 117-run innings has come to an end - here comes another left-hander, the bleach-blond Jacob Bethell.

But has Ben Duckett lost his wicket here?

He tries a big flat reverse sweep off the returning Jeffrey Vandersay's first delivery and is struck on the hip in front of his stumps.

    Thanks Adwaidh.

And Ben Duckett greets me with a six!

He hits Kamil Mishara's penultimate delivery high and long, easily flying over the boundary ropes down the ground.

A Duckett single to mid-wicket off the over's first delivery brought up the century partnership off 134 balls.

Duckett’s fifty is almost more enjoyable here due to the fact that he's had to fight so hard and he’s stuck at it.

To say this is typical controlled and skilled from Root doesn’t take away from the sheer enjoyment of watching him go about his work.

Good to see England being positive for a change. English cricket has taken a lot of criticism recently. Win this series and England can take heart and momentum going to the T20 World Cup. We have hit rock bottom. Surely now the only way is up.

  17. Eng 102-1published at 23 overs

Some brilliant fielding from Janith Liyanage to deny Ben Duckett a certain boundary.

But England bring up their 100 anyway running three.

Joe Root then decides to leave Jeffrey Vandersay's third delivery of the over and almost pays for it with his off stump - the ball almost brushing the stump.
