Seeing the Sri Lankan spinners choke the opposition like this in a chase is really rolling back the years. A vintage home performance.

I think we just have to accept that England are really bad at ODI cricket. Bowlers (Rashid aside) are bang average, and the batters seem terrified to score runs.

    Eng 169-6; 103 runs needed

    No wicket on this occasion.

Impact is umpire's call and the ball is missing the stumps.

Having survived that review, Jos Buttler inside edges the final ball of the over past his leg stump for a single.

    Reverse sweep, another wicket?

Jeffrey Vandersay thinks so - he's struck Jos Buttler on the pads.

Umpire Rod Tucker says no, Sri Lanka are going to see if he's wrong.

  7. Eng 167-6published at 40 overs

    105 runs needed

Rehan Ahmed is the next to walk out to the middle for England.

Neither team wanted to bat under the lights on a pitch now with extra turn and bounce. A chase that was once under control is now anything but.

    Curran c & b Wellalage 5 (Eng 164-6)

    And another one...

Sam Curran steps back to slap Dunith Wellalage through the off side.

The ball ends up heading down the pitch and the Sri Lanka spinner take a smart catch just above the ground.

The umpires check the catch is clean - it is, and Curran departs.

Once again, Brook shows he does not have the nous to be the leader - or even the cricketer - everyone has built him up to be.

    Charlie Brown, Manchester

If Brook had a brain, he’d be dangerous. He shouldn’t even still have the captaincy after all the stunts he’s pulled on and off the pitch over the last 6 months…

Credit to Sri Lanka here but England are really falling away here. They're trying to force things now.

Sam Curran takes a single off his second ball, pushing Dunith Wellalage into the covers.

A lot for the all-rounder to do here, with England needing 9.41 runs an over.

The umpires don't need to check that one.

Not much Jacob Bethell could do about that one - Dunith Wellalage pitches the ball roughly on the off-side tram line and extracts big bounce and sharp turn.

Bethell is beaten all ends up and Kusal Mendis barely has to move behind the stumps to whip off the bails.

There's very sharp work here from the bowler and keeper. The pressure is right back on England now. It's not the return Brook was looking for; he was miles out.

    No doubt about that.

Even a tiny fumble from Kusal Mendis doesn't make the difference, Harry Brook could have been stumped about three times.

Here comes Jos Buttler with England in trouble.
