I've seen some very good centuries and innings played this season, but I think that probably tops all of them.

There have been no missteps. There's hardly been a false shot, hardly been a play and miss.

  5. Postpublished at 16:47 BST 16 May

    Essex 257-8 v Leics 333

Ben Mike sends down a wild full toss wide of off stump.

Wiaan Mulder looks towards the square leg umpire as if to say 'surely that's a no-ball?'

    Apparently, it wasn't.

  6. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 16:45 BST 16 May

    Kent 523 v Durham 128-4

A bit harsh to call that a drop.

David Bedingham tries to cut Tawanda Muyeye and the edge bounces up off the body of keeper Chris Benjamin, standing up to the stumps, and balloons over Zak Crawley at slip for a single.

  7. Postpublished at 16:42 BST 16 May

    Kent 523 v Durham 123-4

Tawanda Muyeye to bowl the first over after tea. It's a decent one, costing him only two runs.

Spin at both ends, but Matt Parkinson is driven straight for four by Ollie Robinson. Nice shot.

  8. 100 runs

100 for Tom Abellpublished at 16:42 BST 16 May

    Somerset 408-5 v Sussex

Sussex continue to move at a glacial pace in the field - and we have a change of bowling. Henry Crocombe is coming on to bowl.

Tom Abell faces on 99 but can't connect with a leg side ball that goes through to the keeper.

Runs this time! Turned into the on side for one and Abell has his third hundred of the season.

This one comes in 171 balls with 11 fours and a six.

  9. Somerset pass 400 at Tauntonpublished at 16:38 BST 16 May

    Somerset 407-5 v Sussex

Fynn Hudson-Prentice to continue. Craig Overton tucks the medium pacer away to deep mid wicket for a single.

What's going on now? Ollie Robinson is holding the ball at slip, perhaps concerned about the light.

That's not going down well with the spectators at all. We've already been off for about half the day today.

Here we go. Abell pushes the ball to long on - and there's the 400 and a fourth batting point in the 109th over.

A wild bouncer soars over the head of keeper John Simpson and that's four wides. A single to Abell to long on. He's on 99.

A batting point for Essex and a half-century off 78 balls for Wiaan Mulder as he pulls Ben Mike away for four.

It's his second 50 for the county and the South African has looked very assured for most of his innings.

Mike tries a bouncer to Simon Harmer and although not in full control of the shot, he bisects two fielders on the boundary and adds four more.

  12. 6 runs

Postpublished at 16:34 BST 16 May

    Essex 247-8 v Leics 333

Simon Harmer must have a good bat.

A half shuffle forward and he lifts a ball from Ajaz Patel over wide mid-on for six without appearing to put any effort into it at all.

Harmer is now 23 not out.

  14. Postpublished at 16:32 BST 16 May

    Somerset 398-5 v Sussex

Spinner jack Carson is in the attack from the other end.

It's a bit gloomy overhead but there are clearer skies just behind the ground.

Craig Overton is forward to the off spinner, defending into the off side.

He tries to work the ball leg side off the back foot but there's no run.

Runs this time, back and pushing to long off for one. Over bowled.

  15. Postpublished at 16:28 BST 16 May

    Somerset 397-5 v Sussex

Craig Overton is in a bit of a tangle with a ball that jags in sharply back of a length but he nudges it away for a single.

Tom Abell is forward to Fynn Hudson-Prentice, pushing into the off side for one to reach 97 not out.

Single to Overton into the covers - and that's the 100 partnership between this sixth wicket pair off 130 balls.

  16. Postpublished at 16:28 BST 16 May

    Essex 240-8 v Leics 333

Wiaan Mulder goes for a big wahoo down the ground to bring up his 50 but makes no contact as Ajaz Patel finds a bit of turn and is fortunate there is no edge.

Mulder remains 46 not out - that was pretty much the first loose shot he has played.

  17. Play resumes at Tauntonpublished at 16:25 BST 16 May

    Somerset 394-5 v Sussex

Craig Overton will face Fynn Hudson-Prentice unbeaten on 63.

His batting partner Tom Abell continues his rich vein of form.

He's within sight of a third century of the season - on 96 not out.

    Essex 240-8 v Leics 333

How close can Essex get to the Leicestershire first-innings total?

  20. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 16:23 BST 16 May

    Notts 124-3 v Hampshire 214

Sadly, the weather which has affected so many matches around the country has now caught up with the south coast.

The teams have not been able to take to the field again after the tea session because of rain and the covers are in place at the Utilita Bowl.

It has been a couple of days of frustration for Hants and Notts, especially on the back of the disruption caused by precipitation yesterday.
