The Eagles offence really needs to turn up tonight and not rely on their defence to win them the game. Go Birds 🦅🦅🦅👊🏻

Christian McCaffrey slips and goes down tackled short of the line of scrimmage when the 49ers were looking to convert a fourth and one - so they have to go for a field goal.

Eddy Pineiro makes no mistake from 36 to boot his first play-off field goal and cut the gap to just three points.

With how this is shaping up, can we have a stat at half time for three-and-outs or turnover on downs?

    Nick, Wirral

Since you asked so nicely Nick, I'm sure that can be arranged.

The wind is certainly a factor. I think we're starting to get a sense why passes aren't going deep downfield.

It's changed the game somewhat. Big-time quarterbacks get neutralised and receivers have to just run timing routes, which are difficult.

It's been a tough game to read so far. I don't think the 49ers are terribly disappointed by where they are, although they sure would've liked to have got the stop on that 4th & 2.

Jauan Jennings pulls off a huge 45-yard catch and run to give the Niners a huge boost just when the needed it. He's a big unit is No.15 and San Fran could do with giving him the ball as much as possible.

With Kittle out his role may grow.

George Kittle took his first catch of the game but then went down injured and has left the field. Big blow for the Niners.

San Francisco's season has been riddled with injuries. Starting quarterback Brock Purdy missed eight games with a toe injury while the 49ers lost defensive end Nick Bosa (week three) and linebacker Fred Warner (week six) to season-ending injuries.

Yet the 49ers somehow managed to stay in contention for the NFC West title, with back-up QB Mac Jones winning five of his eight games in Purdy's absence. They included an overtime win at divisional rivals LA in week five, before the Rams avenged that defeat in week 10.

Purdy has since been an ever-present, prevailing in a shootout with Chicago's Caleb Williams to make it six straight wins for San Francisco before they ended the regular season with a 13-3 loss to Seattle. That allowed the Seahawks to clinch the NFC West while the 49ers had to settle for the NFC's sixth seed.

  9. Road to the play-offs - how the 11-6 Eagles got herepublished at 22:40 GMT 11 January

Philadelphia are the NFL's defending champions having prevented a Kansas City three-peat last year and made a flying start to their title defence, winning their first four.

A home defeat by the Giants showed they are fallible but they bounced back with another four-game winning streak, before hitting the skids with three straight losses.

The Eagles have not been as dominant on defence or as fluent on offence but the mid-season addition of linebacker Jaelan Phillips gave them a boost and they again regrouped, ultimately facing little resistance as they became the first NFC East team to win back-to-back division titles since 2004.

That allowed them to rest their key starters last weekend, although that defeat by Washington meant they had to settle for the NFC's third seed rather than the second, so host the 49ers today instead of Green Bay.

The 49ers need to get a good, long sustaining drive to give the defence a rest. Then, hopefully they'll have a chance against this Eagles attack.

  11. Get Involved - ban the tush push?published at 22:38 GMT 11 January

    Get Involved NFL

We've always had a QB sneak, but the tush push play that the Eagles have mastered, and more recently the Buffalo Bills, too doesn't sit well with some purists.

From whether the Eagles consistently go early, or whether quarterbacks should be able to be literally pushed beyond the line of scrimmage is a big talking point.

And earlier tonight Josh Allen got picked up and carried by a lineman almost for a touchdown.

So, should the tush push be banned? Let us know your thoughts.

The running game is on for the Eagles, especially against these linebackers, they just need to take advantage.

The Eagles go for it again on fourth down and Jalen Hurts rolls out to his right before firing a short pass to tight end Dallas Goedert who scores his second of the game.

Teams are so aggressive in the play-offs so far and fourth down means nothing it seems as they go for it again and and again - but it pays off for Philly this time.

Goedert is a touchdown machine and again he managed to just ghost into space after this depleted 49ers defence bit on play-action.

    Philly in control now.

Saquon Barkley takes a short pass 20 yards, before Tank Bigsby comes in at running back and has three straight decent runs to keep the chains moving.

Philly just move inside the San Francisco 10.

San Francisco 49ers 7-6 Philadelphia Eagles - second quarter

The Eagles convert a fourth down and one with a tush push.

Philly really run it well don't they but, urgh, it's not for me this play.

Winds of 25mph inside Lincoln Financial Field right now, according to the commentary.

    Not great for the quarterbacks.

We saw a lofted pass from Jalen Hurts on the Eagles' last drive hold up and not go exactly where he was intending.

Both he and Brock Purdy will have to be very careful with their throws this evening.
