Seattle Seahawks 6-0 New England Patriots - second quarter

The Pats stand firm again in the red zone so Jason Mayers runs out and kicks a 39-yard field goal to double the Seahawks lead.

That explosion from Kenneth Walker could be huge for Seattle going forward - with two swarming defences, any kind of run game is a good way of force them to think again.

This game is certainly not shaping up to be full of points so Seattle were happy to run it on third and long and take the three points - very much a premium tonight.

Kenneth Walker has been able to get an edge down the side a few times already today. The run game is something we'll see Seattle continue to do.

  4. Darnold hit!published at 00:26 GMT 9 February

Seattle Seahawks 3-0 New England Patriots - second quarter

There's a wall of noise as Sam Darnold is hit as he tries to throw, and all he does is fire the ball into the back of his own player's head.

The Pats race to the ball and drop on it hoping it's a fumble but it's just an incomplete pass. Heart in mouth stuff for Darnold though.

  5. Walker again!published at 00:25 GMT 9 February

Seattle Seahawks 3-0 New England Patriots - second quarter

Kenneth Walker again! He dances through the line of scrimmage then pounds away for another 29 yards and all of a sudden Seattle are into the red zone.

Before the game I was hoping for an offensive game but after the first quarter it’s clear that the team who gets the most defensive turnovers will win this game.

Seahawks defence shutting things down. Just need the offence to turn up and they should be fine….Patriots need a spark…hopefully second quarter this game comes more alive.

Christian Gonzalez does well to break up a deep pass by Sam Darnold for Rashid Shaheed as Seattle try to land a big play.

They do on the next snap from just a simple hand-off as Kenneth Walker produces one of his snappy jump cuts to drive up the let sideline for 30 yards.

My first superbowl watch was Rams Vs Patriots. This game is looking like being the same, low scoring. Hoping someone makes a mistake to make it more interesting.

  9. Pats punt againpublished at 00:21 GMT 9 February

Seattle Seahawks 3-0 New England Patriots - second quarter

Drake Maye floats a back shoulder pass to Hunter Henry but the tight end drops it and it almost falls for Cobe Bryant for the interception.

Henry missed a big catch similar to that one in Denver that ultimately they got away with - not sure it'll be the same here.

    New England have to punt.

Drake Maye has given up five sacks per game these play-offs, and now that's 17 in total so far. It's unsustainable, especially in this game and with his bad shoulder.

Seattle punt it away and even in special teams the tackles come flying in with some fierce hits. I feel like I've got a bit of whiplash myself watching this.

Only three points in that first quarter but it's been full of big hits, tight coverage and constant pressure on the quarterbacks.

Whoever wins this will have to earn it the hard way tonight.

Wow! Sam Darnold takes a hit with Robert Spillane in his face, and almost throws an interception with Jaxon Smith-Njigba the intended target.

The third down play ends up being just another throwaway with everyone covered and pressure, yet again, in his face.

  15. 'Seahawks defence everything we thought it'd be'published at 00:14 GMT 9 February

Seattle Seahawks 3-0 New England Patriots - first quarter

    Ben Collins
BBC Sport journalist at Levi's Stadium

Some 17 Seattle players registered at least half a sack this season, and the last play on the Patriots' last possession showed that the heat doesn't just come from the interior.

Devon Witherspoon claimed half a sack during the regular season and he's just shot up the gap from cornerback to claim one in the Super Bowl. And that made it two sacks on New England's opening two drives.

So far Aden Durde's defence has been everything the media thought - and we hoped - that it would be.

It looks like we are going to have a defensive football game, doesn't it? Some kind of defensive turnover may decide this thing.

The veteran experience of Cooper Kupp will come into play. His intelligence and veteran presence will allow the Seahawks to find the soft spots in this Patriots defence. Seattle also need to give Sam Darnold some time with the ball and see what he can find.

  19. Sack!published at 00:07 GMT 9 February

Seattle Seahawks 3-0 New England Patriots - first quarter

Oh this Seattle defence is heating up! Devon Witherspoon this time comes flying off the edge via a stunt inside and Drake Maye has nowhere to go but down.

The Pats have to work something out here - the Hawks brought the kitchen sink there so Mayes has to try and diagnose that at the line and find a quick throw option somewhere.

Right now Seattle's defence is bossing this game.

Right, back to the game, and the Seahawks just demolish a rushing attempt in the backfield, leading to a second and 14, and then third and 15!
