  3. Contactless parking payments coming to Herefordpublished at 16:39 BST 17 October 2016

    Installation of credit and debit card readers with contactless payment has started at council car parks in Hereford. 

    Most of the city car parks pay and display machines will be equipped with the readers over the coming days. 

    There will be no additional fee or minimum spend for members of the public paying by card and a receipt will be issued by the machine if required, we're told.

  4. Bull in Bewdley probably spooked by leaf blowerpublished at 16:26 BST 17 October 2016

    West Mercia Police say an "agitated" bull found roaming a residential area of Bewdley last night was probably scared by a leaf blower, while being taken to market.

    The animal was eventually captured and put down.

  6. Barn owl rescued by Herefordshire couplepublished at 16:00 BST 17 October 2016

    A barn owl has been saved, thanks to the prompt action of a couple from Herefordshire.

    Edward and Marian Drzymalski discovered the owl lying in the grass in a field adjoining their bed and breakfast and holiday cottages in Llangrove, between Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth.

    After contacting a local wildlife park to find out how to look after the bird, they managed to contact the owner and they've both been reunited.

    Work to replace the collapsed Eastham bridge has started today.

    Villagers have faced a 10-mile detour since it fell into the River Teme in May.

    It's estimated the cost of replacing and investigating why the bridge collapsed could reach £2m.

    Two men who have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of Hereford father Christian Bagley have had their bail extended by the police. 

    The two men aged 27 and 36, who are both from Hereford, were arrested by officers in August. 

    Mr Bagley, 30, was repeatedly stabbed as he walked along the footpath next to the River Wye after visiting his young daughter on Father's Day last year.

    A campaign is calling for the reversal of a decision to scrap A-level archaeology - saying it would cause "irrevocable harm" to the development of future archaeologists.

    Time Team presenter Sir Tony Robinson has backed the protest.

    Daniel Boatright, who teaches the subject at Worcester Sixth Form College, says that pupils benefit from such specialist subjects, which might find skills that would otherwise "have been left undiscovered".

    Dr Boatright says it is "extremely naive" to narrow student choices to a curriculum of "major subjects" - and he has launched an online petition which has gathered more than 5,000 signatures.

  12. Psychiatric report ordered for 'Eskimo knife' attackerpublished at 14:20 BST 17 October 2016

    The sentencing of a Hereford man, who admitted slashing his mum's lodger across the neck with an "Eskimo knife" - has been suspended pending a psychiatric report.

    Carl Bennett, 47, from Wordsworth Road, attacked Patrick Mayglothing on 8 February - just hours after he'd appeared at Hereford Crown Court and pleaded guilty to cutting another man with a carving knife in July 2015.

  13. Open verdict recorded in death of former SAS soldierpublished at 13:40 BST 17 October 2016

    A coroner has recorded an open verdict into the death of a former SAS soldier and mountaineer. Guy Homan was found dead at his business premises in Tillington in July. 

    The 54-year-old died due to fatal pressure on his neck caused by a trailer which he used for his job as a tree surgeon. 

    Mr Homan had taped buttons in place so that the trailer dropped slowly on to his neck but the coroner, Mark Bricknell, said he was not satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that he had intended to take his life.

  14. Grandmother receives British Empire Medal for children's workpublished at 13:21 BST 17 October 2016

    A grandmother who has dedicated her life to improving early years' education has been awarded a British Empire Medal.

    Penny Webb - who graduates from the University of Worcester next month - was nominated for the honour, in recognition of her work in the field, including more than 30 years as a childminder.

    She received the medal from the Lord Lieutenant for Worcestershire during a ceremony at the Guildhall in Worcester last week and will attend a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace next year.

    Dozens of Olympians and Paralympians have been appearing on BBC Breakfast this morning ahead of a parade in Manchester to celebrate success in Rio.

    While some had a great view, Paralympian Lauren Rowles was not one of them.

    Rowles, from Bromsgrove, won Gold in the trunk and arms mixed double sculls with her partner Laurence Whiteley.
