  2. Football: Swifts' long-serving general manager passes awaypublished at 17:54 BST 18 October 2016

    Stourport Swifts' general manager, John McDonald, has passed away after a long illness.

    The 71-year-old was honoured in 2015 by the Worcestershire Football Association for 50 years' service to the Midland Football League club.

    A statement on the Swifts official club website describes Mr McDonald as being "the driving force behind the club's progress".

  3. Police and crime commissioner to hold force to account over 999 callspublished at 17:51 BST 18 October 2016

    The Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia says he's going to hold the force to account for the "unacceptable" performance of its 999 and 101 telephone services. 

    Conservative John Campion, says he'll question Chief Constable Anthony Bangham over what he calls "unacceptable drops" in performance of the 101 non-emergency number. 

    He'll hold a session with the police chief before the end of the month.

    Westfields’ chief executive, Andy Morris, has revealed the club has received best wishes from a true Hereford FA Cup legend.

    Morris says the former Hereford United star, Ronnie Radford, contacted him immediately after the first-round draw to send his best wishes to the Midland Football League club.

    Westfields are into the first-round proper of the FA Cup for the first time in their history.

    Radford will always be remembered for his stunning 30-yard goal as Hereford United beat first division Newcastle United in their third-round replay at Edgar Street in February 1972.

    A minister has confirmed there are "no current plans" for a bank holiday following the country's exit from the European Union.

    More than 20,000 people have signed a petition on the Government's website, external backing Independence Day on 23 June - the day of the EU referendum vote.

  8. Deaf woman jailed for child sex offencespublished at 17:14 BST 18 October 2016

    A profoundly deaf woman from Herefordshire has been jailed for five years for child sex offences, after having her suspended sentence quashed.

    Juliane Fellows, 30, of Llewellin Road, Kington, was originally given a 24-month suspended sentence after being found guilty of gross indecency and sexual activity with a child. 

    At the original sentencing at Worcester Crown Court, Judge Robert Juckes said prison would be wholly inappropriate because of her deafness, but after being referred to the Solicitor General, that sentence has been viewed as "unduly lenient".

  10. Farmer banned from keeping sheep after admitting causing sufferingpublished at 16:57 BST 18 October 2016

    A farmer has been banned from keeping sheep for life, external after pleading guilty to nine animal welfare offences. 

    Animal welfare officers from Herefordshire Council say they seized 218 sheep from William Hyde's farm, The Furlongs, Hereford, earlier this year after DEFRA found a large number of dead animals.

    Trading Standards Animal Welfare officers say they found a number of ewes and lambs without water, as well as a number suffering from sickness.

    Mr Hyde, 62, was ordered to pay £1,000 and £5,000 in compensation after admitting to nine offences, which include failing to record cattle movements and responsibility to ensure animal safety.

  12. Scrapping archaeology A-level leaves industry 'in a pickle'published at 16:20 BST 18 October 2016

    Time Team presenter Sir Tony Robinson says that the scrapping of the archaeology A-level is purely down to cost cutting. 

    Worcester teacher Dan Boatright has launched a national campaign to preserve the subject, which the AQA exam board has announced is being dropped. 

    The actor and presenter is supporting Dan's petition, which has almost 7,000 signatures, and says the situation could lead to a national shortage of archaeologists.

    The exam board said the decision would not stop "students going on to do a degree in them as we're not aware of any universities that require an A-level in these subjects".

    Today is the 800th anniversary of the death of King John, the only monarch to be buried at Worcester Cathedral. 

    To mark the occasion the cathedral has run a portrait competition, for people to depict how they think King John looked.

  15. Teen assault mystery in park - police appeal for informationpublished at 15:00 BST 18 October 2016

    A 16-year-old boy has been treated in hospital for minor injuries after being assaulted in a Worcester park.

    The boy was walking through Ghulevelt Park at around 22:00 last Thursday when he felt someone grab his shoulder and fell backwards.

    Redditch United will be in Southern League Premier Division action this evening when they take on Leamington at Valley Stadium. 

    The Reds' 4-1 win at Cambridge City on Saturday leaves them in sixth place in the table, while Leamington are second and unbeaten at home. 

    The club says that, in the interest of crowd safety, fans will be segregated, external, with all Leamington F.C supporters allocated to the stand at the allotment end of the ground by the main turnstiles. 

    Kick off is at 07:45.

  17. New bridge set to re-open in Springpublished at 14:05 BST 18 October 2016

    People in the Worcestershire village of Eastham have been told that work to replace their collapsed bridge should be completed by the spring. 

    Residents have faced a 10 mile (16km) detour since the bridge fell into the River Teme in May. 

    Work to build a single span steel bridge started yesterday. The council says it hopes to have the new bridge open by April.
