Lose on purpose to avoid GB? 'Definitely not'published at 12:22 GMT 19 February

Marc Kennedy, who has been a central figure in Canada's men's curling campaign so far at these Winter Olympics, has been asked if his team intentionally lost this morning's final round robin match against Norway to avoid Great Britain in the semi-finals.

Canada, already qualified for the semi-finals, were beaten 8-6 - a result that allowed Norway to go through to the last four too. They will meet again in the semis this evening (18:05 GMT).

“Did you watch the game? It was a good game," Kennedy said.

“Brad [Jacobs] missed a couple of shots, and I don't know if [Norway's] Magnus [Ramsfjell] missed one. So no, no, not the case at all. We played hard. It's a little different not having Benny [Ben Hebert] out there. He's a big part of our team.

"But no, absolutely not. We were giving it everything we could to win. We're going to have to beat all the best teams to win this thing anyway. So definitely not."

While Canada face Norway this evening, Great Britain will take on Switzerland at the same time - and we'll keep you across that right here.

Ski mountaineering - or 'skimo' as it's known - is making its Olympic debut in Italy. So what is it?

The sprint races consist of an ascent and descent.

    The ascent has three stages...

    1. The athletes begin the race with skis equipped with skins (strips of fabric that are attached to the bottom of skis to give them more grip.
    2. The athletes remove the skis, place them on their backpacks and tackle a set of steps.
    3. The athletes put their skis back on for a final ascent.

The descent is simple... Ski down as fast as you can to the finish line passing curves and gates in the correct order.

The normal duration of a race is about three and a half minutes.

But we'll leave you with the win moment of the morning so far, Switzerland doing Team GB a massive favour by beating Italy in the men's curling...

The International Olympic Committee are confident all events will be completed in full before the closing ceremony on Sunday, despite multiple delays due to the weather.

They point to Nagano 1998, known as the "Games of Improvisation" due to the constant rescheduling caused by heavy snow, thick fog, and rain.

The men's downhill took place five days after it was originally scheduled, and the women's event was delayed by two days. High winds saw ski-jumping delayed, while the bobsleigh competition was reduced from four runs to three because of poor visibility.

However, all events were completed and medals awarded within the scheduled dates of the Games.

"Snow is an occupational hazard," IOC spokesperson Mark Adams told me this morning. "They [snowsport organisers] are used to delays and changes. There are problems when it comes to snow, we are used to those."

Team GB to face unbeaten Swiss in semispublished at 10:42 GMT 19 February

    Men's curling semi-finals - GB v Switzerland (18:05 GMT)

    Richard Winton
    BBC Sport Scotland in Cortina

Norway hold on to beat Canada, meaning those two will meet again in this evening's semi-finals.

It also means, Bruce Mouat's rink will play the unbeaten Switzerland, whose win over Italy enabled the British rink to squeeze into the last four.

When those sides met in the round robin, the Swiss edged it after an extra end to gain a modicum of revenge for their defeat by the Scottish quartet in the World Championship final last April.
