It has all bunched up at the front of the pack now with Germany's Johannes Rydzek finding it tougher on his second lap in some very tough conditions.

Germany are clinging on to gold medal position as they come in for the third exchange, just 0.5 seconds ahead of Norway - and, in fact, double individual gold medallist Jens Luras Oftebro jumps out in front now!

Austria, with Johannes Lamparter, are right there, as are the teams from Japan and Finland. But Oftebro is forcing the pace...

    Ski mountaineering - men's final

After Marianne Fatton's win in the women's final, can Switzerland complete a double in the men's race?

They have two good medal chances with Arno Lietha and Jon Kistler.

They are joined by Spanish pair Oriol Cardona Coll and Ot Ferrer Martinez, France's Thibault Anselmet and neutral athlete Nikita Filippov.

The final starts at 13:15 GMT.

Emily Harrop had the lead for much of that final but let it slip on the second transition. She struggled to remove the skins from her skis before her descent.

Marianne Fatton did everything perfectly, and she is the champion.

What a dramatic final that was.

Nordic Combined - team sprint, cross-country

In this team sprint, the two athletes complete a lap of the 1.5km circuit before handing over to a team-mate by touching them inside a 30-metre exchange zone. That will be repeated until they've skied a total of 7.5km each.

The leaders are under way with Johannes Rydzek on the first lap for Germany and Andreas Skoglund getting things started for Norway.

That looked like Harrop's race until she was slow out of the second transition, allowing Fatton to pull clear and finish over two seconds clear to add the Olympic title to the world championship sprint crown from last season.

There are tears of joy from Fatton who has created history.

  8. Can Oftebro complete unprecedented hat-trick?published at 13:00 GMT 19 February

Nordic Combined - team sprint, cross-country

It's time for the conclusion of the Nordic combined team sprint...

We mentioned before the ski jumping element that the Nordic combined podium has been graced by at least one of Austria, Germany or Norway since the introduction of the team event 38 years ago - and in 2014 and 2018 all three nations claimed a medal.

That trio were expected to continue their dominance this year and there was little to suggest otherwise this morning, meaning Germany lead the way going into the cross-country with Norway 13 seconds back in second.

Austria start 29 seconds behind Germany in fifth so have a bit more work to do.

Can anybody stop that trio? It will be tough.

Germany are the reigning world title holders, Austria can call upon World Cup leader Johannes Lamparter and Norway’s double individual gold medallist Jens Luras Oftebro is seeking an unprecedented golden hat-trick.

I think it's tough to beat Emily Harrop. She is the favourite for sure and has had the fastest time of the day so far.

Anything can happen, it's the Olympics; equipment failing, and the weather also hasn't been kind.

The final six are taking positions in the first ever ski mountaineering medal race.

How on earth did skimo become an Olympic Sport? It's completely nuts. In fact, it's the sort of madcap sport that Team GB should probably excel at.

After setting the pace in both the heats and semi-finals, France's Emily Harrop will be favourite to win the inaugural Olympic skimo gold medal - the final at 12:55 GMT - but Great Britain will be able to claim a part of her success.

Born and bred in France to English parents, Harrop was originally an alpine skier and competed on the FIS youth circuit before an injury in 2017 redirected her sporting career towards ski mountaineering

She has won the last four overall World Cup titles as well as the last four Crystal Globes in the sprint discipline with the only disappointment coming at last season's World Championships where she finished second behind Switzerland's Marianne Fatton.

This afternoon's curling has been delayed by 25 minutes to 13:30 GMT.

No indication as to why, but the snow is battering down outside so I suspect athletes might be delayed getting here. Only the Italians - who are staying in town - and Canadians are here.

I think the Canadians didn't push to hard to beat Norway in the curling. They didn't want to face GB. I think they'll beat Norway in the semis however which will back my theory. Go GB!

Canada's Marc Kennedy says otherwise, Keith, but we'll have to wait and see on the second part of your theory!

That semi-final was a bit dramatic. There was a power cut in the middle of it.

There was huge groan from the grand stand as the pictures on the giant screen vanished. They vanished from my screen in the commentary box too, I was looking through my binoculars for 30 seconds!

French star Thibault Anselmet is third and must now wait to see if he is one of the two lucky losers.
