Already at 24, Von Allmen's absolutely super-exceeded all the expectations.

You could see he was actually quite shocked - he's so humble he was like 'am I actually doing this? Is this actually happening?'

But it's happening because he is on absolute fire in terms of technicality and confidence. He's ticking every box and he couldn't have had a more perfect Super-G run and we rarely say that is this discipline.

It's the hat-trick for Franjo von Allmen - an unbelievable achievement for the Swiss skier on his Olympic debut!

A brilliant run from the 24-year-old to edge ahead of USA's Ryan Cochran-Siegle, who takes his second silver in as many Games.

Switzerland also take the bronze as Marco Odermatt, who was tipped to win before the event, finishing third.

US star Chloe Kim has been chatting to BBC Sport after qualifying top for the snowboard halfpipe final.

"I feel good. Qualifiers are always the worst so I'm really happy I made it over this hurdle and now we have tomorrow to worry about," she said.

"I do have a lot more in the tank. I was telling my coach wouldn't it be so full circle if I did my 2018 Olympic gold medal winning run in the qualifiers, and he was like 'that would be pretty crazy'. But we didn't end up going with that."

Olympic champion Dodds leads fresh GB Women's curling team in 'medal hunt'

After disappointment for Jen Dodds and Bruce Mouat in the mixed doubles curling as they missed out on a medal last night, it is a case of getting back on the horse quickly.

Mouat is back in action this evening in the men's event as Great Britain take on China from 18:05 GMT.

Dodds has to wait until tomorrow to get back on the ice as a new-look GB women's team also face China in their opening match.

Great Britain's Makayla Gerken Schofield has spoken after missing out on a place in the freestyle skiing women's moguls final.

    How are you feeling?

"A bit frustrated, quite emotional. I'm pretty happy with my run, apart from a few mistakes in the bumps. But overall, I had fun and that's the main thing for me."

Where on the course do you think you lost points?

"I think it was in my turns. I didn't really get a high base score. I could have gotten higher than that. I mean, my skis crossed in the middle section and I thought I was going to fall, but I fought it and I still got down, so I can be proud of that."

How were the nerves this time round?

"Way better than yesterday. I was really enjoying myself today and I felt pretty relaxed and just kind of wanted to get down and ski so I think that's pretty positive."

And then we've got dual moguls coming up. Have you even thought about it?

"I actually keep on forgetting we have dual moguls because it's the first time that it's actually in the Olympics but I'm pretty excited about that. It's quite an exciting event to watch."

Your friends and family are here, what does that mean to you?

"That means the world. Because when I'm feeling the way I am right now, I can go to them for a hug and just talk through it with them and it just feels like home again."

  8. What's happening on day five?published at 11:40 GMT 11 February

  9. Why there are no GB competitorspublished at 11:35 GMT 11 February

    Snowboard - women's halfpipe qualification

    Ed Leigh
Snowboarding and freestyle skiing commentator on BBC One

The lack of GB competitors on halfpipe is down to the heritage of British riding.

We don't have any halfpipes in the UK so very few people get to train when they're young. There are less super pipes like this in the world than there are bobsleigh tracks. They're incredibly expensive to build and maintain.

Europe have three or four of this quality.

  10. Kim leads the waypublished at 11:31 GMT 11 February

    Snowboard - women's halfpipe qualification

That's it from the women's halfpipe qualification and it is Chloe Kim who leads the way into Thursday's final with her first run score of 90.25.

Kim finished clear of Japan's Sara Shimizu (87.50) and her American team-mate Maddie Mastro (86.00) with Japan's Rise Kudo in fourth on 84.75.

It is all set up nicely for Thursday when Kim will be aiming for her third Olympic title in a row.

We are back underway in the women's halfpipe qualification after Liu Jiayu's heavy fall.

  12. Von Allmen on the brinkpublished at 11:27 GMT 11 February

    Alpine skiing - men's Super-G

Franjo von Allmen is getting ever closer to becoming just the third male skier, and just fourth overall, to win three gold medals at a single Winter Olympics.

The 24-year-old Swiss retains his lead and if anyone displaces him at the top of the standings now it would be something of a shock.

We've had 23 competitors go now and the top-10 ranked skiers all went between sixth and 15th, those ranked between 11th and 20th were either in the first five or between 16th and 20th.

It means those skiers remaining are ranked 21st in the world or lower. It doesn't mean they can't win but, as I say, it would be a big shock if Von Allmen were to be denied.

Liu Jiayu has just been lifted on to a stretcher and the medical team is very carefully taking her away from the bottom of the pipe.

    Huge applause breaks out.

  14. Liu suffers 'lightning fast' crashpublished at 11:17 GMT 11 February

    Snowboard - women's halfpipe qualification

    Ed Leigh

Liu Jiayu was in 13th and hunting for a spot - it was infinitely possible for her but she just made a mistake on that third trick and it set her off-kilter for the fourth. She caught her toe edge - if anyone's ever done that, it's unexpected and happens lightning fast. Such a shame.

Two of Liu Jiayu's team-mates, who were sat on the snow having photos taken near me when she crashed, have sprinted back into the team area.

The crowd have fallen silent and the music has been cut.

Just to give you an idea of just how fine the margins are in the Super-G, only 0.9 seconds separate leader Franco von Allmen and his compatriot Alexis Monney in 10th.

Less than a second between glory and, in the nicest way possible, also ran.

The good thing is that the benchmark for female snowboarding is Chloe Kim and so as a youngster, the likes of Felicity Geremia and Anne Hedrich, they're looking now and that's where they going to be. That's where snowboarding is going.

  19. Kim maintains advantagepublished at 11:03 GMT 11 February

    Snowboard - women halfpipe qualification

American star Chloe Kim, who is chasing her third consecutive gold medal, goes for her second run but does not improve on her score of 90.25 from her first run.

She stays in the lead ahead of Japan's Sara Shimizu (87.50) and her own team-mate Maddie Mastro (86.00).

She will be the one to beat in Thursday's final.

    Alpine skiing - men's Super-G

Austria's Vincent Kriechmayr is a two-time world champion but has never won an individual Olympic medal. Will the 34-year-old be able to change that today? He'll be up shortly.

Will anybody be able to deny Franjo von Allmen a remarkable third gold at these Games?

Well, Italy's Dominik Paris certainly won't, he loses a ski early in his run and is out.
