Off the crossbar from USA! Or did that hit both posts? An absolute harpoon from distance. What a let off for Canada.

An inch above the pad of Hellebuyck - it could not be more perfect placement inside the post. You felt it coming from Canada this second period.

We have a hockey game everybody.

Canada are level late in the second period!

They win the face-off on the left and quickly switch the puck to Cale Makar, who is wide open on the right. He drives the puck past Connor Hellebuyck, placing it just above the netminder's pad.

Huge goal and a pinpoint pass from Devon Toews to pick him out.

Another good save from USA's Connor Hellebuyck, denying Cale Makar at his near post.

There's a bit of a brawl in the aftermath, with one of the Tkachuk brothers and Dylan Larkin throwing their weight around for USA. No one is penalised by the officials.

Macklin Celebrini has been at the heart of every good attacking move for Canada, registering four shots. If anyone's going to make a breakthrough for Canada, you feel like it's going to be him.

Canada did this against Finland too - upping the pressure bit by bit until it was inevitable they would score.

These are going to be five huge minutes for the USA to hold out.

Canada are scrapping around the USA goal but they still can't find a way through. I wonder how much they're thinking about that 90-odd seconds of 5 on 3 they wasted.

With five minutes to go in the second period, Canada trail USA 1-0.

Three times a period in ice hockey, they have a 'power break' - a chance for the ice to be cleaned, players to take a drink, and ads to be shown.

Six volunteers clean the ice by skating in unison, pushing ploughs up and down the ice to smooth it out.

    Impressive and mesmeric.

The game has lived up to its billing.

Do we want a few more goals? Yes, but what we're seeing here with the pace, the intensity, the physicality has been something else. We cannot say how crucial that penalty kill was from the Americans.

That could have been nasty. Canada's Tom Wilson went steaming after the puck to try and negate an icing call and ends up slamming into the boards.

USA's Charlie McAvoy is forced to take evasive action and hurdle the Canadian to avoid a big collision.

Coming through a near two-minute spell with two players down, without conceding, feels like a huge moment for USA in this game.

The minority support here, backing USA, are in huge voice.

USA are more than halfway towards their first men's ice hockey Olympic gold in 46 years, and their first ever on foreign soil.

    Huge credit to the US.

Your goalie's the most important penalty killer and he did his job but a couple of really big clearances from the USA as well.

    Canada's power play was poor.

A wild shot from Nathan MacKinnon was all they had to show for the first half of it.

Macklin Celebrini brought two big saves out of Connor Hellebuyck but with a 5 on 3 advantage, they should have been peppering the goal.

    Canada have to score.

Connor McDavid, bursting through, is one on one with Connor Hellebuyck but he runs out of ice. Big save from the USA netminder!

Excellent threaded pass to pick McDavid out.

Those last five minutes were incredible to watch.

Canada knocking but they've not been able to find the back of the net. A really horrible turnover from Canada puts the puck on a platter for the Americans.

Talk about how tight this game is.
