Another big save from Jordan Billington, rushing out of his crease to divert Brock Nelson's effort around his left post.

TV replays show Connor McDavid's most recent effort for Canada. The puck burst through netminder Connor Hellebuyck's armpit and fortunately for USA, it fell the right side of the post.

USA scored against the run of play in the first period and they nearly do so again in the second, reacting fastest to a loose puck. Jordan Billington comes up with a huge save for Canada.

Looking ahead here, but if Canada lose it would add fuel to a building conversation about their Winter Olympics performance.

If they don't take gold, Canada will finish outside the top 10 in the medal table. They have already missed their pre-Games target.

For a country which has traditionally been a Winter Olympics powerhouse, finishing with potentially less than half of the USA's golds would be an embarrassment.

The puck rebounds off USA netminder Connor Hellebuyck but it doesn't sit up nicely for Mitch Marner.

A few phases later, they strike the post!

It's been a scrappy opening five minutes in the second period and USA are really struggling to clear their third.

For Canada you know, you played okay that period. You gave up the goal, it was a wonderful individual effort from Boldy, you still played okay so you don't need to change or panic or take ill-advised risks.

The first chance of the period goes to Canada! Captain Nathan MacKinnon flicks the puck behind himself to Connor McDavid but his effort goes just wide. It looks like netminder Connor Hellebuyck got a chunk of that.

There's been a discussion between the officials and the 'too many men' penalty they signalled against USA at the end of the first period appears to have been overturned.

It's 5 on 5 to start the second period.

What is your favourite moment from the Games?

It may be February but we may as well call the SPOTY now, if it is anyone but Matt "double skeleton gold" Weston, then there would be nationwide shock and disbelief. Three golds in total for Team GB, and it could/should have been more! Great effort all round!

    James in Leicester

My favourite moments were sharing Robin Cousins’ pure delight at the figure skating - in contrast to the despair of the drama at Beijing 2022. These Games reclaimed the sport for good.

    Heather in Glasgow

Moment of the Games for me - Rebecca Morrison's magical final stone v USA. The drama of sport at its finest and a timely reminder that anything is possible if you give yourself a chance. Thank you Rebecca for that!

Gold-medal winners Matt Weston and Charlotte Bankes have been chosen as Team GB's flagbearers for tonight's closing ceremony (19:00 GMT) in Verona.

Weston, 28, became the first British athlete to win two medals at the same Olympic Winter Games - with gold in the men’s skeleton followed by gold in the mixed team event alongside Tabby Stoecker two days later.

Bankes, 30, topped the podium alongside Huw Nightingale in the mixed team snowboard cross - Britain's first ever gold on snow - in what was her fourth Games.

We'll be covering the closing ceremony right here, with live coverage on BBC Two.

Is there such a thing as a double power play in ice hockey where one team could be two players up and, if so, is there a limit?

    Michael

Hi Michael. Yes, you can - it actually happened in the Elite League game I attended last night with two penalties in quick succession resulting in a 5 on 3.

However, a team can't have fewer than three outfield skaters on the ice.

If additional penalties are awarded when a team is down to three skaters, the start of those penalties is delayed until earlier penalties expire.

After an all-action first 10 minutes, the following 10 were rather more subdued.

Canada have had more shots and possession, but without ever really looking like breaking down the Americans.

Plenty to consider in the break.

Peeeeeep. The horn blows for the end of the first period.

USA lead 1-0 thanks to Matt Boldy's great solo effort, which came completely against the run of play on six minutes.

As the period ends, USA are pinged for having too many men on the ice - easily my favourite penalty offence in ice hockey - so Canada will start the second period on the power play.

It's a successful penalty kill from Canada.

USA tried to be too intricate with the puck and the one opportunity they had - Auston Matthews wide open at the back post - was wasted. Why didn't he go for goal?

Shea Theodore burst out of the penalty box to pounce on a loose puck and set up a three on two, but no one else on the line could match his energy.

Canada concede a penalty. Shea Theodore goes to the box for hooking.

USA go on the power play. It will be 5 on 4 for the next two minutes.

Good defence from Canada's Colton Parayko to get disrupt Auston Matthews as he eyes up a one-timer at the back post. The puck stops harmlessly in front of Jordan Binnington, who puts a big gloved hand on it.
