In the men's 10km+10km skiathlon, Team GB's Andrew Musgrave came 10th in his fifth Games - just short of his best Olympic finish of seventh in 2018 - with fellow Briton Joe Davis 16th.
"I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit disappointed," Musgrave told BBC Sport after the race.
"I felt like it was so fast on the first section and straight away I was struggling - it was hot and I was overheating.
"My chances of a good finish were over after the first lap."

Breezy Johnson's gold in the downhill was the United States' first gold medal at the Milan-Cortina Games.
"I had a good feeling about today. I sort of still can't believe it. I don't know when it will sink in," she said.
"I knew I had to push, and I knew I had to go harder than I did in training. I had to be super clean, I felt like I did that.
"I tried to keep it rolling, and I knew the speeds were good, so I hoped it would be enough."

Women's downhill gold medallist Breezy Johnson says "her heart goes out to" to her American team-mate Lindsey Vonn after she crashed out of the downhill event.
"I hope it is not as bad as it looks," Johnson said.
"I know how difficult it is to ski this course because you love this course so much and when it hurts you like that, it hurts that bit worse. My heart just goes out to her."
Although the slope was closed for around 20 minutes whilst Vonn was airlifted off the slope, Johnson had already completed her gold medal-winning run before her compatriot's crash.
"Last year at the World Championships I won from bib one, so I had to wait through the entire race. This morning I personally prefer to run earlier, rather than wait from the top," said Johnson.
