    Women's snowboarding big air qualifying

The second of three runs in the big air qualifying is done and dusted.

New Zealand Zoi Sadowski Synnott still leads from Japan's Kokomo Murase with scores of 172.25 and 168.75 respectively.

South Korea's Yu Seungeun (158.50) and Austria's Anna Gasser (156.50), who won the last two Olympic events, sit third and fourth.

Team GB's Mia Brookes (89) is 22nd while team-mate Maisie Hill (20) is 29th and last.

Remember, athletes can discard the worst of their three runs, so Brookes and others with one bad score can shoot up the standings if they score well on their final effort.

The top 12 go through - the third run will begin shortly.

While this crowd is partisan - it's mostly Americans and Italians in the stands - there is support for all the skaters.

Canada's Madeline Schizas suffered a heavy fall on the first element of her routine, to gasps from the audience. Spectators then cheered her through the rest of her routine, which she skated well.

The Olympic spirit in action - including from the one guy who yelled "I love you like maple syrup" as she left the ice at the end of her routine.

Almost time for the women's single free skating discipline in this team figure skating final.

A reminder that there are just two points separating USA and Japan in the battle for gold.

We've got to wait to see the routines of Amber Glenn of the US and Japan's Kaori Sakamoto, they're the last two skaters out.

Do you know your corks from your grabs? Here's what to know about snowboard big air.

Big air is scored under four categories: difficulty, execution, amplitude and landing (DEAL):

    • Difficulty: Athletes are rewarded for doing brand new tricks. Generally, more spins and flips, the more points athletes will pick up
    • Execution: Points are scored by how an athlete maintains control of the trick, holding grabs properly for as long as possible. The judges look for clean techniques and athletes making difficult moves look easy
    • Amplitude: Athletes must land in a designated spot in a sloped area. Judges can mark down if there is too much or too little amplitude
    • Landing: Athletes must land in full control when the trick is completed. Judges do not want to see reverts, where a trick has landed but the board is still spinning. Reverts count as a fall in big air

After landing her second jump, Mia Brookes went over to hug her parents, Nigel and Vicky.

Her parents looked relieved and Nigel said his heart was calming down after the nervousness of knowing she had to land her second jump or she would have been out.

But Brookes needs to do it again in the third run to guarantee a place in the big air final.

And that's yet another win for Team GB.

Italy's Amos Mosaner and Stefania Constantini can't do enough in the closing end and lose 9-6.

Regardless of what happens in Monday's closing round-robin matches, the British duo willl finish top of the standings with eight wins out of nine. They are very much the team to beat in this competition.

Now Jen Dodds and Bruce Mouat will wait to see who they will face in Monday's semi-final (18:05 GMT). Win that, and they're guaranteed at least silver. Lose, and they'll still have a shot at bronze.

Making her Olympic debut tonight is Amber Glenn, who comes in to skate for USA in the women's discipline.

Glenn is ranked third in the world, but is known to the wider public for her outspoken views on American politics.

The 26-year-old is bisexual and is one of very few out LGBTQ+ female figure skaters. Earlier in these Games, she criticised Donald Trump's policies towards gay and transgender people at a US figure skating media conference.

“It’s been a hard time for the community overall. It isn’t the first time that we’ve had to come together as a community and try to fight for our human rights,” Glenn said.

“And now, especially, it’s not just affecting the queer community, but many other communities. And I think that we are able to support each other in a way that we didn’t have to before, and because of that, it’s made us a lot stronger.”

Having made headlines away from the rink, Glenn will hope to deliver on the ice tonight.

Jen Dodds is bang on with that assessment. Mouat set up a three-point haul with a fine attempt towards the conclusion of that end and it means Team GB go into the last with a two-shot lead at 8-6.

Maisie Hill time, and she gets massive air but stacks the landing.

She doesn't record for that run, and is near definitely out of contention.

Japan's Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara put in a dazzling performance to top the standings in the pairs element of this team event!

A massive season's best of 155.55 - that blows the rest of the competition out of the water.

They add 10 points to their overall tally. Georgia get nine, it's eight for Italy, seven for the US and six for Canada.

It means Japan are now just two points before the US in the overall standings. Italy are on for bronze at the moment.

They'll be back at about 19:45 BST for the start of the women's single free skating.

    Much better from Mia Brookes!

She lands only her third 1260 of the evening and that nets her 89 - a huge score, the second highest of the night.

Earlier in the run, leaders Zoi Sadowski Synott and Kokomo Murase scored 82.25 and 82.50 respectively, likely enough to take them through.

    Mia Brookes is cool personified.

She plays electric guitar and loves heavy metal - especially Metallica.

Her style is so important to her, and the Team GB kit, that gets issued to all athletes and staff, isn't quite the vibe she normally goes for.

And so, as she told us the other day when BBC Sport bumped into her, she's had hers altered, with loads more material added to her trousers to make them baggier.

Every figure skater or pair can pick whichever music they please, regardless of what anyone else has. Which means we have a funny situation here of two pairs in this final both skating to the Gladiator soundtrack.

Japan's Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara are performing to music from the Ridley Scott film - just as the Canadians did earlier.

It is a banging soundtrack, in fairness.

Part of the music for the Georgia pair is a phone ringing and police sirens in the background - it is very disconcerting, makes you think someone is calling to interrupt the performance.

It's no Spice Girls, to be sure.

She's followed by Japan's Kokomo Murase (86.25), the reigning world champion, and Australia's Ally Hickman (85.25).

The Team GB pair of Mia Brookes (29.75) and Maisie Hill (20) sit in 23rd and 26th respectively, with the top 12 going through.

Unsurprisingly, there is huge support for the Italian pair of Sara Conti and Niccolo Macii - but they head a real heart in mouth moment here.

Macii badly slipped during their second element, underrotating on the double axel. He was able to regain composure and skate the rest of the routine well - but he is clearly frustrated here.

He was on his hands and knees on the ice at the conclusion, and blows out his cheeks as he exits the stage.

Italy are in a tight race for bronze with Canada and Georgia. Could that be a key moment?
