I spoke to Axel Brown after the two-man event earlier this week and he said it was “mission accomplished” as Trinidad and Tobago managed to not finish last.

The Harrogate-born pilot will have the same goal in mind for the four-man event but has his work cut out to prevent that happening here.

  3. Musgrave hoping for final flourish after historic Gamespublished at 09:56 GMT 21 February

At 35, Andrew Musgrave is competing in his fifth Winter Olympic Games and the Team GB skier has never performed better.

He finished sixth in the 10km interval start freestyle to post Britain's best finish in a Winter Olympic cross-country skiing event - a record that only lasted a few days.

That's because Scot then followed it up with a fifth-placed finish alongside James Clugnet in the team sprint, the pair ending up just only 4.3 seconds off a medal.

Now Musgrave is aiming to continue that fine form in the 50km mass start. He came sixth in the event at the 2025 World Championships and, as tough as it will be, this looks his best chance to sneak onto the podium.

“Number five, that’s going to be the one,” said Musgrave bullishly in an interview last year. So far he's been proven right but will there be one final flourish?

Two members of Team GB will take to the start line in the cross-country skiing men's 50km race.

Widely considered Britain's best-ever cross-country skier, 35-year-old Andrew Musgrave has featured at five Olympics and nine World Championships, achieving four top-10 finishes in the 50km mass start at the latter event.

Joe Davies made his Olympic debut in Milan-Cortina, finishing 12th in the 10km interval race and 16th in the 20km skiathlon.

The 24-year-old was raised in Canada before switching to represent GB in 2022 and also competes for the University of Utah, winning an NCAA title in 2025.

Johannes Hosflot Klaebo is winning golds for fun in Milan-Cortina and unfortunately for his opponents, he's the reigning world champion over 50km.

He's joined in this race by a trio of Norwegians in Harald Oestberg Amundsen, Martin Loewstroem Nyenget, and Emil Iversen. Nyenget and Loewstroem won gold alongside Klaebo in the 4 x 7.5km relay.

France's Mathis Desloges has won three silver medals at this Games while USA's Ben Ogden and Gus Schumacher have also finished as runners-up to Klaebo over the past fortnight.

Finland's Iivo Niskanen is a three-time Olympic champion across various cross-country skiing events, including winning the 50km race in 2018.

Federico Pellegrino and Elia Barp are the two Italian medal hopes and have already won bronze medals in the team sprint and 4 x 7.5 km relay.

The most gruelling event in the Winter Olympics is cross country skiing's 50km mass start.

Current world champion Johannes Hosflot Klaebo is the red hot favourite.

Of course he is, he's already got a record 10 Winter Olympic gold medals - and five of them have come at these Games.

Today he is out to complete the clean sweep. A gold in every cross-country event for which he is eligible a single Winter Olympics.

Now he is out to extend his Winter Olympic record further. The man is an phenomenon but completing a golden sweep would be something else.

At 10:00 GMT, the final men's cross-country skiing event of the Games will get under way - get ready for the men's 50km mass start.

How does it work? Simple. It’s a straightforward race, with the first to cross the line taking the gold medal.

Starting positions are determined by the current Distance World Cup standings and the overall leader is assigned first position.

If there’s a tie that can’t be broken by a photo finish (tip of the first shoe crossing the finish line), the affected athletes will share the same ranking.

What a team the Jamaicans are. They've done really well on the North American circuit in the second tier of sliding by producing gold medal after gold medal.

That wasn't a bad run for the amount of experience they have on this track. Although it looked a bit messy, for their time and experience on the track in what is turning out to be a real technical challenge for the pilots, I think it's a really, really good run.

    Everybody loves Jamaican bobsleigh.

USA are the reigning Olympic champions after stunning hosts China four years ago with an unassailable score of 338.34 points in Beijing.

Chris Lillis is the only remaining team member from that victory and he was also in the squad that won World Championship gold last year, along with Quinn Dehlinger and Kaila Kuhn. He and Kuhn are joined by Connor Curran in Livigno.

China could only achieve Olympic silver four years ago despite qualifying for the final in first place.

They head into this year's team event with both individual gold medallists in their ranks, with husband and wife duo Wang Xindi and Xu Mengtao winning their respective events. Completing the team is men's bronze medallist Li Tianma.

Ukraine earned a silver medal at the 2025 World Championships, largely thanks to Dmytro Kotovskyi's score of 133 in the final, while Switzerland's team includes Olympic men's individual silver medallist Noe Roth.

Canada's Marion Thenault, Miha Fontaine and Lewis Irving took Olympic bronze four years ago, finishing almost 15 points ahead of fourth-placed Switzerland. Thenault qualified in first place for the women's individual final but could only finish seventh.

In Livigno, it's nearly time for the mixed team aerials final.

This event is a two-stage final. Each team must comprise three male AND female athletes; typically, two men and one woman are selected.

A randomised draw determines the start order. Team members compete in rounds, with one athlete per nation making a jump in each. Individual scores are added together to give an overall team score.

Skiers are scored on air (take-off, height, and distance), form (precision of movement, timing, technique etc.), and landing (balance and control).

The top four teams – including any tied for fourth – advance to the second phase, with scores reset.

Each athlete performs another jump, with the sum of the three team members’ scores determining the final rankings.

The first final is at 09:45, with the gold medal event at 10:45.

China, Canada, Switzerland, Ukraine, USA, Australia, and Kazakhstan are the competing teams.
