China perhaps thought they would steal a lead there after a stunning clearout removed three British stones. But this Scottish quartet have a bit about them, and respond well to blank the end. All square at the halfway stage.

There's no way that Choi Ga-on isn't feeling that slam. The fact that she's out here, that's incredible determination.

Very good news folks. South Korean teenager Choi Ga-on who took a hefty tumble in round one is able to go again for round two.

But ah, she skids early in the run and bails out of her first trick. She'll have to do it all on the final run.

    Short Track Speed Skating - Women's 500m

World record holder Xandra Velzeboer and Italian legend Arianna Fontana are in the first quarter-final.

You have to feel for the other three skaters in their pack because you couldn't be going up against tougher competitors!

There is one woman all the locals are here to see tonight.

Arianna Fontana began these Games with a bang, winning her 12th OIympic medal in surprising style as Italy claimed a shock mixed relay gold.

Now the 35-year-old, who is the only woman to have won a medal in six consecutive Winter Olympics, is aiming for a 13th, which would equal Italy’s all-time Olympic record-holder, fencer Edoardo Mangiarotti.

Fontana is the two-time reigning Olympic champion over this distance. A hat-trick would take the roof off.

Yep, lots of nerves in run two. Nobody has toppled Chloe Kim's first-round score just yet.

Wowza! We're trying to think of a pun-related reply to Katie's post in the office but the best we can come up with is Pin and Juice and to warn Katie not to Drop it like it's hot.

You may have heard how big Olympic pin swapping is among athletes.

I was just given THE pin.

    A Snoop Dogg pin.

In the build-up to the short track, we had a lady in very shiny trousers playing a selection of club bangers on an electric violin.

Elsewhere, Xandra Velzeboer of the Netherlands is the world-recorder holder over 500m and is known for her blistering starting pace.

The 24-year-old also won 500m gold at last month's European Championships.

Her sister, Michelle Velzeboer, will also compete in this event and she took silver behind Xandra at the European Championships.

    Short Track Speed Skating - Women's 500m

Who should I be looking out for in the women's 500m, I hear you ask?

Well, you can't look past Arianna Fontana.

Fontana is Italy's most decorated female Olympian and came into these Games with a total of 11 medals.

She has already added to that impressive tally in Milan with a gold in the mixed team relay, so she will hope to make it 13 tonight.

China have done well, there. Despite losing a stone to that hog-line violation, they manage to take two to tie us up at 2-2 after four ends.

I wormed my way into Simon Brotherton and Wilf O'Reilly's car and have sped across town for some more speed skating.

We go from the 5000m, one of the longest distances, to the shortest of the short track events.

The 500m is the chaotic ideal when it comes to speed skating. Anything can happen, and usually does. Don't take your eyes off it.

It's a masterclass first run from Chloe Kim. Backside 720, switch, frontside 1080, it can take years to master all of the things she's just done.

    Short Track Speed Skating - Women's 500m

The two fastest skaters in each quarter-final qualify for the semi-finals automatically, as do the two fastest third placed skaters.

The final then takes place at 20:36, so it's a fast turnaround!

So that's the first run of three done in the women's halfpipe final. American Chloe Kim is leading with 88 points. Japan's Mitsuki Ono is next with 85 and her countryman Rise Kudo is in provesional bronze with 77.5.

While we wait for round two, shall we build up to some other events happening tonight?
