I believe the physio has been called to court by Elise Mertens for the next changeover.

There haven't been any obvious signs of difficulty for her.

  2. Paolini serving to stay in the set after Kostyuk holdspublished at 14:08 BST 8 July

    Kostyuk 5-3 Paolini*

Marta Kostyuk hits her second double fault of the set but responds with a serve out wide (returned into the net) and an ace - clearly she isn't one to dwell on things. 30-15.

Another big first serve and a walloped forehand down the line - 92mph, I'm told - complete a comfortable hold.

  3. 'Relentless pressure'published at 14:07 BST 8 July

    *Noskova 6-3 0-1 Mertens

    Naomi Cavaday
Former British tennis player on BBC Two

This is just relentless pressure from Linda Noskova, she isn't backing off whatsoever. It is clean and crisp striking off her racquet, shot after shot.

But Elise Mertens is battling, she is made of tough stuff. That was another long game, but she holds serve. She has been taken to deuce in four of her five service games so far and has faced three break points.

  4. Mertens holds in marathon gamepublished at 14:06 BST 8 July

    *Noskova 6-3 0-1 Mertens

Another backhand goes wide from Linda Noskova when a winner was begging to be hit.

It's the backhand that has cost her dearly in this opening game of the second set. She had multiple chances to really take a firm grip on this match by breaking the Mertens serve for a second successive game.

But the Belgian lets out a cry of 'Allez!' as two big serves secure a key hold of serve that, at several points in that game, looked improbable. Took close to 10 minutes that second-set opener.

  5. 'Incredibly refreshing to hear'published at 14:06 BST 8 July

    *Kostyuk 4-3 Paolini

    David Law
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

Kostyuk has frequently referenced the therapy she has constantly had in the last couple of years, trying to separate her life and self-worth from her tennis results.

It's so incredibly refreshing to hear from someone who has gone through that process.

  6. Paolini holdspublished at 14:05 BST 8 July

    *Kostyuk 4-3 Paolini

Jasmine Paolini completes the fightback, celebrating the hold as Marta Kostyuk sends a slightly wild cross-court forehand wide.

    Kostyuk 4-2 Paolini*

Jasmine Paolini lets out a shout after fighting back to force deuce.

She's come through two three-setters, including being bageled in her first set of the Championships, en route to the last eight, so it's far too early to write her off.

More mistakes on the Mertens serve - and Linda Noskova is sniffing blood, hitting every ground stroke with such power.

Two break points - but both go begging as the Czech sends two backhands wide.

Another chance is missed at deuce. Feels like a massive game this, Mertens simply has to hold...

  9. Break points Kostyukpublished at 14:03 BST 8 July

    Kostyuk 4-2 Paolini*

Marta Kostyuk is all over Jasmine Paolini. She's picking off her second serve and forcing groundstroke errors.

At 15-30, Paolini finally lands a first serve but it makes no difference. Kostyuk fires back a deep return and then slams a forehand winner down the line.

  10. Kostyuk holds to lovepublished at 14:01 BST 8 July

    Kostyuk 4-2 Paolini*

Jasmine Paolini rubs her forehead after going 30-0 down with back-to-back forehand unforced errors.

Marta Kostyuk consolidates the break with a hold to love. She's strutting around between points. Confidence.

    *Kostyuk 3-2 Paolini

This has been an excellent start by Marta Kostyuk.

Jasmine Paolini has not done a whole lot wrong but Kostyuk’s variety and punishing accuracy has proven too much at times.

The Ukrainian met Jasmine Paolini’s power with a delicate slice to catch the Italian out for deuce, before hammering in a series of winners to eventually make her breakthrough.

Kostyuk has been far more expressive, and shakes a clenched fist towards her team after hitting the front in this opening set.

There it is! Marta Kostyuk pounces on a 96mph serve from Jasmine Paolini, putting her body behind a cross-court forehand and beating the Italian for pace.

  14. Break point Kostyukpublished at 13:57 BST 8 July

Paolini finished 2024 fourth in the world, last year eighth in the world, so it's not been going the way she wanted in the first half of this year but what a time for it to pick up in this second half.

Everyone loves watching her with her positivity and smile on her face on court.

  17. 'Her movement has been excellent'published at 13:55 BST 8 July

    Noskova 6-3 0-0 Mertens*

    Naomi Cavaday
Former British tennis player on BBC Two

That first set slipped away from Elise Mertens quite quickly. Up until the break of serve, it had been so close.

Linda Noskova threw herself at that set point. A lot of people talk about her strike but her movement has been excellent today. There has been great work on the short balls and defensive balls on display.

She has been doing an awful lot of box-ticking.

  18. 'Frustrated cry from Mertens'published at 13:55 BST 8 July

    Emily Salley
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Elise Mertens let out a frustrated cry when she was broken and now she storms off the court for a re-set.

She had one break point at the very start of the set, but since then she hasn't been able to do much on Linda Noskova's serve.

The Czech player has dominated the baseline rallies and looked the better of the two at the net.

    First set summary statistics

Indeed, the stats show Noskova was certainly that set's better player...

  19. Deucepublished at 13:55 BST 8 July

    Kostyuk 2-2 Paolini*

Another iffy service game from Jasmine Paolini.

There's a lovely pick-up off her laces as she comes on the approach - a tactic which is really working for her - but the following point she puts a loose backhand in the net.

Make that two loose backhands in a row from the Italian. Deuce.

  20. 'A face of deep disappointment'published at 13:53 BST 8 July

    Noskova 6-3 0-0 Mertens*

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

Mertens looks very disappointed at the moment.

Turning her back on court and playing with the strings. She has a face of deep disappointment.
