    Kostyuk 2-2 Paolini*

    Marta Kostyuk holds to 15.

On the opening point, she rushes the net to take a forehand drive volley out of the air. Not just a baseline bruiser.

At 40-15, she comes into the net again and shows her athleticism to chase back and recover a lob. Jasmine Paolini is left frustrated as she plants an attacking forehand, taken halfway up the court, into the net.

A hold to love - and from nowhere, an opening set that long looked destined for a tie-break goes the way of Linda Noskova.

The 21-year-old clinches it in style with a diving backhand at the net after a fine rally.

The pressure was building for Elise Mertens on serve.

Linda Noskova had already had a number of break point opportunities, but she was finally able to convert there.

  4. Noskova breaks, will serve for setpublished at 13:50 BST 8 July

    *Noskova 5-3 Mertens

Some ultra attacking tennis from Linda Noskova is rewarded with the first service break of the match.

Elise Mertens had little answer to the Czech's deep, big hitting during that deuce duel and the world number 12 now has the chance to serve out the opening set.

    It’s hot. Maybe too hot…

But Jasmine Paolini manages to keep her cool after Marta Kostyuk brings the early heat here in the Italian’s second service game.

Both players appear to have settled in quickly here and it’s already simmering nicely between two top players who stand next to one another in the rankings.

    Noskova 4-3 Mertens*

That was an excellent move from Linda Noskova to go 0-30 up. She got on to the short ball, found the depth and didn't allow the ball to drop as she moved in for the volley.

This is really high quality tennis from both women.

Elise Mertens thrashes a volley long - she could have that let that bounce but chose to hit it as it dropped out of the sky and it proved a wrong decision.

A wonderful reach for a stretching drop-backhand-volley at the net, however, gets the Belgian out of a spot at bother at 0-30.

Linda Noskova twice goes long in the rallies that follow but a bit of a swingy backhand from Mertens takes us to deuce...

    Kostyuk 1-1 Paolini*

Jasmine Paolini is cruising towards another hold at 40-0 before mistakenly engaging Marta Kostyuk in a trio of baseline exchanges.

The Ukrainian, standing on top of the baseline, smacks deep return after deep return and exploits the extremities of the court to force deuce.

A very commanding hold of serve from Linda Noskova, sealed with an ace.

Both players finding their feet on their serve now after nervy starts.

  14. Paolini holdspublished at 13:40 BST 8 July

A relatively routine hold to 15 for Jasmine Paolini, who has 10-time Grand Slam champion (doubles and mixed doubles) Sara Errani in her corner.

Marta Kostyuk has already offered a peak at her ferocious power, however, attacking a second serve and getting on top of Paolini in a baseline exchange at 40-0.

For a quarter-final, I must admit the atmosphere has felt a little flat so far.

Elise Martens and Linda Noskova aren't the biggest names on Tour, so perhaps the crowd are just taking a bit of time to warm up to them and decide which one they are backing.

    *Noskova 3-3 Mertens

Elise Mertens, competing in her first Slam quarter-final in six years, enjoys her most assured service game yet.

The Belgian sent Noskova running left to right, in and out, on one thrilling point, and finished her off with a smash, while winning a couple of others with some fine wrong-footing strokes.

    Tracy Austin
Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC One

I'm going to go with Marta Kostyuk to win this one. Her mindset has really changed and I can tell she is enjoying herself out there these days after she felt so many expectations at the beginning of her career.

She has won 20 out of her last 21 matches. She is on a roll.

  20. Noskova keeps us on serve on Court Onepublished at 13:34 BST 8 July

    Noskova 3-2 Mertens*

The first ace of this quarter-final from Linda Noskova helps ensure a far more serene hold than Mertens in the previous game.

She seals with a lovely clipped backhand around the net post and into the corner of the court when racing in.
