  1. Break points Bergspublished at 14:40 BST 4 July

    Bergs 3-1 Fery*

Arthur Fery is really happy to stay at the back of the court and is regularly dropping a yard or so behind the baseline. Zizou Bergs has already clocked that and is utilising a drop shot to good effect - he has another couple of break points.

That was definitely nerves, there's no other explanation.

Elise Mertens has been playing phenomenal tennis throughout this first set. Her game plan to just make Elena Rybakina play that extra ball has been so beneficial.

  3. 'An opportunity missed'published at 14:39 BST 4 July

    *Eala 5-5 Swiatek

    Greg Rusedski
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

What an opportunity for Iga Swiatek! She didn't think her backhand was going to land in the court but it did, and then there was an incredible unforced error. What an opportunity missed by the former world number one.

Shortly before, we saw Alexander Eala getting a bit cross towards her box at 0-15 when she missed that drop shot by an inch.

These trainers have to be be so multi-talented. Having to get nose bleeds sorted, I'm not sure they are really trained for that!

  5. Rybakina saves match pointpublished at 14:38 BST 4 July

    *Mertens 7-6 (7-4) 5-1 Rybakina

Elise Mertens fights back from 15-40 down to take the game to deuce before bringing up match point with a big first serve.

Mertens can't make it count as she serves a ninth double fault of the match.

    Bergs 3-1 Fery*

It's almost seven minutes since the last point and Arthur Fery is ready to continue.

The Briton is a break down in this opening set.

I'd suggest there is never a good time to have a nose bleed but when you're decked out in all white then it's definitely not ideal!

Arthur Fery is still receiving treatment.

The nose bleed strikes again. Arthur Fery has had one in all three matches he has played at Wimbledon.

The crowd show their support for the Briton with chants of "let's go Arthur, let's go."

  9. Mertens breaks againpublished at 14:33 BST 4 July

    *Mertens 7-6 (7-4) 5-1 Rybakina

Elise Mertens gets a bit of help from the net as she gets to 0-30 and hardly anything is going Elena Rybakina's way at the moment.

A backhand winner from the Belgian brings up three break points - her ninth point in a row - and a double fault from Rybakina shortly after gifts the double break.

Second seed Rybakina is spiraling towards defeat.

Oh no. Arthur Fery appears to have a nose bleed as he takes his seat at the change of ends. Fery has a quick chat with the umpire and the medic has been called.

Fery has suffered with nose bleeds in his previous two matches this week too.

  11. Swiatek holdspublished at 14:32 BST 4 July

    *Eala 5-5 Swiatek

All square again in this first set as Alexandra Eala, who continues to try and take it to Iga Swiatek, just overcooks a couple of forehands.

The Filipino does smoke a cross-court forehand winner to take it to deuce but Swiatek pushes through.

A big serve down the T clinches the hold.

  12. Bergs holdspublished at 14:32 BST 4 July

    Bergs 3-1 Fery*

Arthur Fery has a battle on his hands here.

But he appears up for it and quickly assumes a 30-0 lead against the serve. This game follows the same pattern as Zizou Bergs' opening service game, though, as he comes racing back to win four points in a row and hold.

Fery needs to start turning the screw when he gets into those positions.

  13. 'Not a lot that can go wrong with this backhand'published at 14:31 BST 4 July

    *Bergs 2-1 Fery

    John Lloyd
Former GB Davis Cup captain on BBC One

It is so precise [Fery's backhand]. So economical.

It is not a big backswing. There is not a lot that can go wrong with this backhand. The takeback, the small shoulder turn.

  14. 'It isn't the end of the world'published at 14:31 BST 4 July

    *Bergs 2-1 Fery

    Kyle Edmund
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

That's a shame. When you start these big matches, you want to get off to a quick start so the minimum you should be doing is holding your serve. Essentially, you want to try to get some look-ins to break or take things to a first set tie-break.

It isn't the end of the world, but Arthur Fery wouldn't have wanted to go down to an early break. But best of five matches are long so he will have chances to come back.

  15. 'There is something going on out there'published at 14:29 BST 4 July

    Mertens 7-6 (7-4) 4-1 Rybakina*

    Jeff Tarango
Former American tennis player on BBC Radio 5 Live

Elena Rybakina missed three backhands outside tramlines in her last service game. She wasn't even getting close on them. Then she hit a forehand eight feet long.

There is something going on out there that we can't quite understand. Elise Mertens, however, is playing very good percentage tennis.

  16. Mertens holdspublished at 14:29 BST 4 July

    Mertens 7-6 (7-4) 4-1 Rybakina*

Elise Mertens has full control at the moment as the Belgian 25th seed holds to love.

There's a celebratory clench of the fist from Mertens and she has a spring in her step as she walks towards her chair before the change of ends.

I’ve been on court 18 a few times this week and every time I think about how good it would be have one of those flats that overlook the Wimbledon grounds.

Who needs a ticket when you live in one of those?!

That being said, this is the first day that I have seen people out on their balconies looking down.

A good pair of binoculars would do the trick.

That is the side you will get a few more errors out of Bergs. The forehand can be a weapon but you can get a few more errors out of the Belgian.

Another double fault from Elena Rybakina gives Elise Mertens a chance.

The game heads to deuce but Rybakina continues to struggle as she floats a forehand well past the baseline, before skewing a shot wide.

Mertens breaks and a shrug of the shoulders and a deep breath from Rybakina tells us she's disappointed with her performance at the moment.
