It's not like Ostapenko has been making a load of unforced errors. A lot of the errors have been forced because of Sabalenka's quality.

  2. Sabalenka picked up on Ostapenko's return positionpublished at 18:07 BST 3 July

Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

Aryna Sabalenka was serving with pinpoint accuracy when she needed to in that first set.

Jelena Ostapenko has a tendency to start in a position which tells you she is going to cover the backhand side, but as you toss the ball she tends to move towards the other side to cover the forehand side which is her weakest link.

Because she cheats a little bit on her return position, you actually get a really good return out of her and Sabalenka picked up on that as the set progressed.

A very good set of tennis from her.

  3. Break point Liupublished at 18:06 BST 3 July

    Liu 3-6 0-0 Gauff*

Rapid footwork from Claire Liu to chase down a short ball and win the point with a teasing drop shot of her own. She has her first break point of the match.

  4. Deucepublished at 18:06 BST 3 July

    Liu 3-6 0-0 Gauff*

A bit of a loose game from Coco Gauff to open the second set, giving up a 30-0 lead.

A well-placed wide serve gets her back on track but she leaves the court wide open for Claire Liu to bang home a down-the-line forehand. 40-all.

Jelena Ostapenko wasn't far off in that opening set, she just couldn't make it count at the right moments.

That Latvian has headed off court for a reset, while Aryna Sabalenka sits with one of the red Wimbledon towels draped over her head.

  6. 'All or nothing'published at 18:03 BST 3 July

    Sabalenka 6-4 0-0 Ostapenko*

    Eugenie Bouchard
Former Canadian tennis player on BBC Two

Hitting second serves bigger than her first serve, it shows Ostapenko's mentality when she plays tennis.

It is all or nothing. Go big or go home. Whatever you want to call it, that is her tennis.

  7. Postpublished at 18:02 BST 3 July

    Sabalenka 6-4 0-0 Ostapenko*

Aryna Sabalenka got 70% of first serves in during that first set. It's tough for any player to defeat you with that sort of statistic.

Jelena Ostapenko has shown she can create chances against the world number one, so this one is far from over.

  8. Game and first set - Gauffpublished at 18:01 BST 3 July

    Liu 3-6 0-0 Gauff*

Oh, that's a lovely combination from Coco Gauff, sending a looping forehand onto the baseline before converting her third set with a delicate backhand drop shot.

    Gauff takes the set 6-3.

  13. Ostapenko saves set point to holdpublished at 17:57 BST 3 July

    *Sabalenka 5-4 Ostapenko

From 30-0 up, Jelena Ostapenko finds herself set point down - not helped by a double fault and Aryna Sabalenka finding her range with a sensational return.

A backhand winner by Ostapenko takes the game to deuce and the Latvian goes on to hold from there, forcing Sabalenka to serve out the first set.

  14. Gauff holds to lovepublished at 17:55 BST 3 July

Umpire Kader Nouni shrinks back in his chair after an Ostapenko forehand fizzes right in front of his face. Accidental, of course.

  16. Williams sisters set to playpublished at 17:53 BST 3 July

It looks as though Serena and Venus Williams WILL play women's doubles tomorrow.

There had been doubt over Serena's fitness after she picked up an injury playing in the singles on Tuesday.

Their match against Camila Osorio and Solana Sierra has appeared on the order of play with a court "to be arranged".

They will not play before 16:30 BST.

  17. 'A high ceiling but a low floor'published at 17:52 BST 3 July

    *Sabalenka 4-3 Ostapenko

    Eugenie Bouchard
Former Canadian tennis player on BBC Two

Ostapenko has a high ceiling but a low floor.

If she is playing a top player then she can raise her game, but if she is playing in a lower-ranked event then the motivation might not be there.

She is quite unpredictable, but also predictable in her up-and-down career and game.

  18. Liu holdspublished at 17:51 BST 3 July

    Liu 3-4 Gauff*

Claire Liu fizzes a serve wide and a stretching Coco Gauff is unable to find a decent return. 40-0.

    *Sabalenka 4-3 Ostapenko

    Anne Keothavong
Former British number one on BBC Two

It has to be an impressive serve to get it past Sabalenka.

With her wingspan and the way she stands, she has a really wide stance at the baseline.
