    *Safiullin 6-7 (6-8) 3-6 0-0 Djokovic

    Another lengthy break between sets.

It was Novak Djokovic after the first set, it's Roman Safiullin this time.

We're at seven minutes and counting now.

    *Safiullin 6-7 (6-8) 3-6 0-0 Djokovic

It's interesting that in the latter part of the first set and throughout the second, Roman Safiullin was very deep - a long way behind the baseline - for Novak Djokovic's first serves.

It really opened up the serve and volley option for Djokovic, who has been happy to take it, and made me wonder why the qualifer was doing it.

But then we saw the shot showing a strip of shade right at the back of the court, exactly where he was standing... perhaps he just wants to stay cool with the sun beating down. OK, that's probably not it.

Did you just say Novak Djokovic could be on his way to a 66th Grand Slam quarter-final? That's really sick.

How many people have also played 106 matches at Wimbledon in their careers as well? Forget about winning them!

Barbora Krejcikova was a set and a break down at 5-3 but has just broken back to keep her hopes of reaching the quarter-finals alive.

10th seed Karolina Muchova saved two break points but couldn't stave off a third as the second set goes back on serve.

Never in doubt. Novak Djokovic calmly serves it out to move two sets to the good.

A pair of serve and volleys get it done from 30-30.

    He's one set from a record-breaking win.

American fourth seed Jessica Pegula is speaking after beating compatriot and 16th seed Iva Jovic to reach the quarter-finals.

On an inconsistent first set: “That was really tough. I knew Iva was a top player with a lot of energy. I couldn’t find my serve in the first set but I wasn’t playing that bad, I was still breaking quite a bit, so I had to trust that. There were a lot of close games there at the end, honestly it could have gone either way, but I kept my intensity in every point.”

On being able to make adjustments mid-game: “I think we just grow into it and figure it out or we don’t, that’s the beauty of this sport, you either fail or succeed but you always learn to push yourself. I keep my emotions in track and am never overly positive or negative. I tried to not go for too many big shots and thankfully I was in the clear.”

On playing Belinda Bencic or Coco Gauff in the last-eight: “To me it doesn’t matter, everyone keeps getting better and better. There’s some really tough matches in our section, Iva is a great grass court player so it was great to get through a hard match before the next round. But that will be a new day so…”

We were talking about how Roman Safiullin was winning a lot of the longer rallies, but that is sort of changing right at the time Novak Djokovic needs it to.

  8. Safiullin holds to lovepublished at 15:28 BST 5 July

    Safiullin 6-7 (6-8) 3-5 Djokovic*

Just what Roman Safiullin would have wanted: a quick hold and minimal energy used.

He's going to need plenty in the tank to try to break Novak Djokovic and extend this set.

The 39-year-old Serb is serving for a two sets to love lead.

  9. 'Djokovic has been methodical'published at 15:25 BST 5 July

    *Safiullin 6-7 (6-8) 2-5 Djokovic

    John McEnroe
Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC One

Roman Safiullin has got to be feeling a little deflated now, having had the chances in the first set and not capitalising, then losing a tough one in the tie-breaker and now being a service break down.

Novak Djokovic has been methodical. His serving percentage right now is higher than Safiullin's. He is tactically so astute.

Roman Safiullin produces a wonderfully disguised drop shot but, down 40-0, it only delays the inevitable.

Novak Djokovic holds to 15 and is a game away from a two-set lead.

That was very impressive from Jess Pegula against a rising star in Iva Jovic.

Pegula could be going a bit under the radar. She is in Aryna Sabalenka’s half of the draw but she bagelled the world number one in Berlin in the build-up to Wimbledon, and her flat hitting works well on this surface.

It could be doubles partner and good friend Coco Gauff up next, too, which should be a belter.

Stunning cross-court return from Novak Djokovic to bring up a fourth break point.

It just brushes the net chord but flies past Roman Safiullin.

This time the qualifier can't save it, hitting a backhand into the net.

The seven-time Wimbledon champion takes control of the second set.

Jessica Pegula is getting this one over with as she quickly brings up three match points.

The American fourth seed makes them count in style as she sends down an ace.

It was a tricky opening set but Pegula showed her class in the end to reach her second Wimbledon quarter-final.

Jessica Pegula brings up another break point with a perfectly executed slice which dies before Iva Jovic can get her racquet to it.

The American fourth seed then comes into the net at the right time with a volley which Jovic can do little about.

Pegula has the double break and will serve for a place in the quarter-finals.

Good battling from Roman Safiullin. He is still in this game.

Novak Djokovic for sure thinks he should already have the break. He is right about that.

  16. Muchova breaks late in second setpublished at 15:18 BST 5 July

    *Muchova 7-6 4-2 Krejcikova

10th seed Karolina Muchova has just taken a huge steps towards a spot in the quarter-finals after coming through a 17-minute game to break Barbora Krejcikova.

Muchova claimed the break at the fourth time of asking when fellow Czech Krejcikova double faulted.

    Big mistake from Roman Safiullin.

Down 0-15, he produces a huge serve and Novak Djokovic can only just get it back over the net.

Safiullin races in, gets to the ball and attempts to just dink it over the net - but puts it into it!

The 28-year-old makes up for it with a succession of smart volleys at the next net point, with Djokovic unable to find a way past him.

Djokovic forces two break points, Safiullin saves both but a brilliant return from the Serb earns him a third... but he punches a forehand into the net.

    Deuce. On we go...

Former British tennis player on BBC One

Novak Djokovic looked a bit off balance at times on the point to go 40-15. It looked as though his co-ordination was a bit off, but he managed to stay in the rally long enough.

There were a whole host of breaks in the opener, but there is certainly a different pattern emerging in the second.

    *Pegula 4-6 6-4 3-1 Jovic

Jessica Pegula is on top here and she nails a perfect lob from the back of the court - one of the shots of the day - before taking the game to deuce with a sliced drop shot.

The fourth seed is reaching deep into her bag of tricks.

Iva Jovic recovers well though with a strong first serve before winning an important rally to hold.

A fist pump tells us how important she knew it was to keep Pegula at bay there.
