The weight of a nation is on Alex de Minaur.

It's 50 years since Mark Edmondson won the Australian Open - the last Australian to do so in men's singles - and de Minaur is the last man standing for the hosts.

The sixth seed is a six-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist, reaching the last eight in all four majors, but is yet to progress beyond that stage.

However, he believes he has the ability to be a serious contender at the business end of tournaments.

"I've got to the stage where I'm not just another number in the draw," he said following his first-round win. "I'm playing to win it, to be one of the guys in contention. Ultimately, that's the goal."

Coming into 2026, Alexander Bublik had won just three matches in seven main-draw appearances in Melbourne.

But the Kazakh 10th seed heads into his fourth round meeting with Alex de Minaur in red-hot form having not dropped a set in his opening three matches.

Bublik is making just his fourth appearance in the second week of a Grand Slam and has only once reached the quarter-finals at a major, doing so at the 2025 French Open where he overturned a two-set deficit to beat De Minaur in the second round...

There will likely be a lively crowd on Rod Laver Arena as sixth seed - and home favourite - Alex de Minaur takes on Alexander Bublik.

De Minaur is Australia's best hope of a singles title at this year's event and he's only lost one set en route to the last 16.

However, his fourth-round opponent, the enigmatic Alexander Bublik, is in arguably career-best form and came from behind to win both of their meetings in 2025.

The winner will face top seed Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals after the Spaniard beat Tommy Paul in straight sets.

    An intriguing contest ahead...

Many of the top seeds progressed into the fourth round on a scorching-hot day in Melbourne, when the temperature neared 40C.

Two-time defending champion Jannik Sinner admitted he was a little fortunate at the timing of the heat rules being enforced during his match with Eliot Spizzirri. The Italian was struggling really badly with cramp and trailing by a break of serve in the third set when the intervention came, after which he completed victory under the roof on Rod Laver Arena.

Novak Djokovic went through in straight sets, while 40-year-old Stan Wawrinka's dream run in his final appearance at the Australian Open was ended by ninth seed Taylor Fritz.

In the women's draw, Jessica Pegula, Amanda Anisimova and defending champion Madison Keys all won in straight sets but two-time former winner Naomi Osaka withdrew because of injury.

  18. Two Britons through to men's doubles quarter-finalspublished at 07:42 GMT 25 January

While there are no British players remaining in the singles, several are going strong in the men's doubles.

Neal Skupski and his American partner Christian Harrison were leading 5-0 against Dutch duo Botic van de Zandschulp and Tallon Griekspoor before receiving a walkover win.

The sixth seeds could face a Briton in the quarter-finals with Henry Patten and Finland's Harri Heliovaara - the second seeds - in action against Czech pair Petr Nouza and Patrik Rikl later on Sunday.

Unseeded Luke Johnson and Jan Zielinski (Poland) beat John-Patrick Smith and Adam Pavlasek in straight sets to advance to the last eight.

However, Marcus Willis and Jakub Paul's run came to an end in the second round late on day seven. They lost to Australian wildcards Marc Polmans and Jason Kubler in three sets.

    Gauff 6-1 3-6 6-3 Muchova

Coco Gauff's greatest asset on court is her attitude and her ability to keep digging, scrapping and fighting no matter which way she can get herself over the line, she does.

Sometimes the tennis isn't always pretty and it's a bit shaky and we can feel what she's going through emotionally, but she comes through so many matches like this time and time again.

You have to really admire her strength and character.
