  1. Game and second set - De Minaurpublished at 09:21 GMT 25 January

    *De Minaur 6-4 6-1 0-0 Bublik

Alexander Bublik nets a forehand return. Alex de Minaur secures the second set at the first opportunity.

He has one foot in the quarter-finals and with Bublik producing 25 unforced errors (to de Minaur's nine) and yet to earn a break point, it's hard to see a way back for the 10th seed.

  2. Set point De Minaurpublished at 09:19 GMT 25 January

    *De Minaur 6-4 5-1 Bublik

A first double fault of the match from Alex de Minaur levels the game at 30-all.

He misses his T serve to hand Alexander Bublik a look at his second serve but although the 10th seed produces a good backhand return and gets into the rally, his attempted down the line forehand winner goes wide.

    Set point for the Australian.

What is it about Learner Tien that Daniil Medvedev can't cope with.

The young American ended Medvedev's run in the second round at Melbourne last year, and he's done it again in 2026.

He's the youngest man to reach the quarter-finals at the Australian Open since a 19-year-old Nick Kyrgios did in 2015.

    *De Minaur 6-4 5-1 Bublik

    Surrendered with a double fault.

Alexander Bublik is furious in between games, launching an expletive-laden rant towards his box and criticising the ball, which he describes as a ping-pong ball, and the speed of the court.

  5. Break points De Minaurpublished at 09:15 GMT 25 January

    *De Minaur 6-4 5-1 Bublik

Break points are coming thick and fast for Alex de Minaur.

He gets a helpful net chord on a forehand return, which leaves Alexander Bublik stranded at the net, and lets rip with a cross-court forehand winner for 15-40. Uh oh.

  6. De Minaur holdspublished at 09:13 GMT 25 January

    De Minaur 6-4 4-1 Bublik*

Alexander Bublik, stood on the baseline, plays a forehand through his legs and into the net with a look of resignation on his face: 15-0.

He's putting almost no pressure on Alex de Minaur's serve. Despite the Australian's first serve percentage sitting at just 53% for the match, Bublik has only won eight points.

    Learner TienImage source, Reuters

Learner Tien is a Grand Slam quarter-finalist for the first time.

He was just far too good for Daniil Medvedev and he sees the Russian 11th seed off in straight sets.

The 20-year-old bursts into a smile and raises a clenched fist to the sky.

  8. Match points Tienpublished at 09:12 GMT 25 January

    *Medvedev 4-6 0-6 3-5 Tien

Daniil Medvedev hasn't rolled over in this third set, but Learner Tien is on the brink of victory.

The crowd are fully behind Daniil Medvedev. They want to see more tennis.

But Learner Tien gets the hold and he's just one game away now from his first Grand Slam quarter-final.

Alexander Bublik earns advantage with a big first serve and then undoes his good work with another forehand error, this one looping beyond the tramlines.

  13. Break point De Minaurpublished at 09:07 GMT 25 January

    De Minaur 6-4 3-0 Bublik*

Two consecutive first serves from Alexander Bublik. Two points won. Alex de Minaur returns the first one long and is sent scrambling to his backhand by the second, with Bublik completing the one-two punch with a forehand winner.

And then the errors return. Two ugly backhands and then, with de Minaur on the backfoot, he fires a forehand long with the court gaping. Excellent defence from de Minaur. Poor striking from Bublik.

    Medvedev 4-6 0-6 3-4 Tien*

It seemed like Learner Tien couldn't miss just a matter of minutes ago.

But he whacks a weak hit into the net and hands Daniil Medvedev his third game in a row.

    Medvedev 4-6 0-6 2-4 Tien*

Now then. Is there a small glimmer of hope left for Daniil Medvedev?

He stopped the rot in the last game and now he's gone and broke Learner Tien's serve.

The American still has the break advantage in this third set, but has Medvedev done enough to damage the 20-year-old's momentum?

  16. De Minaur holdspublished at 09:03 GMT 25 January

    De Minaur 6-4 3-0 Bublik*

Just when I start complaining about being bored, Alexander Bublik comes up with a bit of magic. Coming on the approach, he picks up the ball at his feet and then goes full stretch to his right to snuff out Alex de Minaur's passing shot: 30-15. More of that, please.

    De Minaur holds to 15.

  17. Medvedev holds for first time since first setpublished at 09:02 GMT 25 January

    Medvedev 4-6 0-6 1-4 Tien*

Finally. After losing 11 games, Daniil Medvedev eventually gets back on the board and he'll avoid another bagel.

  18. De Minaur breakspublished at 09:01 GMT 25 January

    *De Minaur 6-4 2-0 Bublik

Alex de Minaur breaks early in the second set as Alexander Bublik produces yet another unforced error.

Aside from one entertaining point early in the first set where the players were lobbing one another, this match has been a little underwhelming with neither de Minaur nor Bublik finding their level.

  19. Break point De Minaurpublished at 08:59 GMT 25 January

    De Minaur 6-4 1-0 Bublik*

When Alexander Bublik lands his first serve, he's able to keep Alex de Minaur pegged behind the baseline, but it's just not happening enough.

And at 30-all, when he does manage to land a first serve out wide, he follows it up with a loose forehand to gift de Minaur a break point. Too many errors.

  20. De Minaur holds to lovepublished at 08:57 GMT 25 January

    De Minaur 6-4 1-0 Bublik*

Alex de Minaur fails to land either of his first two first serves in the second set but still races into a 30-0 lead as he forces a couple of return errors from Alexander Bublik.

Bublik then sends consecutive forehands long and into the net as de Minaur secures the hold to love.

Momentum just appears to be creeping in the Australian's favour. Bublik looks a little flat.
