    Trump 5-7 Selby

For what seems the umpteenth time today, Judd Trump crashes in a long red to start proceedings.

But, as has also been the case plenty of times, it ends up with little reward - just a tough green that he misses.

He leaves it safe but a poor safety shot from the Bristolian soon after gifts Mark Selby an easy red.

This could get to the twitching hour now.

It was looking so comfortable at 7-2, we said Trump had to win the opening session - what a task that was to win the next three, he's done it.

We've got a match on now.

  4. The cutest snooker player has arrivedpublished at 21:03 GMT 7 December 2025

The Barbican has given out plenty of ovations this week - but perhaps the cutest was for youngster Jude Owens, a toddler who is already wowing onlookers with his precocious talent.

    He's only TWO!

It is bizarre - snooker's just the weirdest game in the world.

If you'd have tuned in today and seen 5-0, with the way Mark Selby was playing, you'd never have thought you'd see this scoreline now.

  7. Trump to add name to comeback kings list?published at 21:00 GMT 7 December 2025

Since 1993 only two players have come from five frames behind to win a UK Championship final.

They were Mark Allen against Ding Junhui in 2022 (won 10-7 after trailing 6-1) and John Higgins (won 10-9 after being 7-2 down) against Mark Williams in 2010.

Is Judd Trump about to add his name to that list?

I felt that, once Judd had said that he could see it and therefore didn’t agree with the free ball, Mark was put in a very awkward situation. Yes he could have been ultra professional and taken the free ball, but we know that sportsmanship is also crucial to snooker. So Mark did the right thing.

    Adam, Switzerland

I’m sorry but after that wonderful gesture of sportsmanship from Selby, Trump should have played safe after he fluked the red. Poor effort from Trump there.

    Johnny, West Sussex

Why didn't Trump call it a free ball? He saw it with both reds to check.

  9. Where the final turned?published at 20:56 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 5-7 Selby

Is this where the 2025 UK Championship final turned.

At 7-3 up, Mark Selby showed true sportsmanship to turn down a free ball which he thought the referee had called incorrectly.

It was a marginal decision that TV replays seemed to suggest referee Olivier Marteel had got right.

But Selby said 'no' - and Judd Trump fluked the red after escaping the snooker the next time round before going to clinch the frame.

  10. 'Judd's hung around'published at 20:53 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 5-7 Selby

    John Parrott
1991 world champion on BBC Two

Mark Selby's missed a few and he's just not made a couple of clearances he had the chance to do.

Where he was mopping everything up and every mistake was being punished, that's not the case any more, and Judd's hung around.

Like the world number one he is he's not given up, and Mark's helping him out.

  11. 'Difference in Selby astonishing'published at 20:51 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 5-7 Selby

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC Two

The difference between Mark Selby at the start of this match to now - some of the balls he's missed - is just astonishing.. that in the same day you can have that type of difference in form.

  12. 'Crowd in for a treat'published at 20:49 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 5-7 Selby

    Ken Doherty
1997 world champion on BBC Two

If somebody had told Mark Selby he would be leading 7-5 going into the last session of the final, he'd have taken it - but the way it's panned out from 7-2 to 7-5, he won't be happy at the interval.

Judd Trump will be happy - he's given himself a lifeline. A bit of help from his opponent, yes, but he's stuck in there without playing his best.

This Barbican crowd came to watch a close final and they are in for a treat in this final session.

    Trump's 105 break going into mid-session.

The Barbican erupts in applause as Judd Trump completes a century, a 105 break - and, more importantly, cuts his deficit to 7-5.

He was 5-0 and 7-2 down, remember.

That's the mid-session interval and we all need a breather - perhaps none more than Mark Selby.

Exceptional sportsmanship from Mark Selby there: I wonder how he felt when Judd Trump fluked the yellow?! As it happens, it seemed very clear from the television pictures that the referee was correct - it was a free ball.

    Che, West Bridgford, Notts

Absolute credit to Mark there with the free ball, but big turning point in this match possibly.

    Stuart, Swindon

Absolutely right for Mark to be honest with his opinion. Wider life lessons here. And now fully deserves to go on and win. A true gentleman who deserves respect from players and viewers alike.

Judd Trump's break is up to 40 - somehow.

He's rattled several shots in the jaws and they've dropped, he's run out of position and found some recovery pots.

But now he's in great shape to win this frame and cut the gap to two.

  17. 'Allowed back into this'published at 20:40 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 4-7 Selby

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC Two

Trump has been allowed back into this final by his opponent.

The pots aren't going into the middle of the pocket - but they're going in.

It's incredible what we're seeing tonight - both players are struggling to find anything like their best form.

  18. Postpublished at 20:39 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 4-7 Selby

The Selby errors are piling up - this time he messes up a safety to leave Judd Trump a red to the middle.

In it goes - but pink is safe and black surrounded by reds so not the easiest table to come to.

  19. Postpublished at 20:34 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 4-7 Selby

Frame 12 following a familiar pattern of Judd Trump banging in a long red to get in first but not able to take any real advantage.

    What a massive pre-interval frame this is - huge difference between 8-4 and 7-5 in a first-to-10.

  20. 'Incredible gesture of sportsmanship'published at 20:33 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 4-7 Selby

    John Parrott
1991 world champion on BBC Two

It's an incredible gesture of sportsmanship, Mark Selby is in the minority there.

He was cruising along with his arm out of the window, and all of a sudden if he loses this frame he's on a bumpy road to twitchville.
