    Trump 0-0 Selby

The break ends on 26 though as Trump misses a red along the baulk cushion and now it's a chance for a Mark Selby counter.

Early nerves from the defending champion?

Selby cannot capitalise though - an attempt to break the pack off the yellow goes awry. Bit jittery from both to start here.

That is the shot of the Championship right there.

    Trump 0-0 Selby

Not the shot of the world's best player to start with from Selby, though.

He thrashes at a long red, misses it by a fair distance and it clatters into the pack, almost fluking another red but leaving it over the pocket for an easy starter for Trump.

The world number one plays a poor positional shot but recovers by knocking in a stunning yellow and coming round the angles with the cue ball to land perfectly on the next red.

  4. 'Selby best player in world'published at 13:08 GMT 7 December 2025

    Stephen Hendry

Why is Mark Selby ranked 11th in the world, answer that one?!

It shows how volatile the rankings can be these days - because if you have a little dip in form for five or six months you drop down.

I think Selby at his best is the best player in the world - he's almost unplayable.

Especially when he's scoring heavily, because obviously we know about every other part of his game.

Mark Selby recently beat Judd Trump in the final of the Champion of Champions event, but surprisingly, they've never played each other before in a Triple Crown final.

Selby looks to be back to his very best - with impressive wins here over Barry Hawkins and Shaun Murphy.

As for Trump, whose the defending UK champion, he's playing well again having ended the experiment with a new cue and reverted back to his old one for the York Barbican.

Ten frames is the magic number to be crowned champion.

List of all-time most UK championship winners with a picture of Ronnie O'Sullivan

Whomever lifts the famous old trophy tonight will have some way to go to catch 'The Rocket' Ronnie O'Sullivan when it comes to UK title hauls.

Indeed, O'Sullivan is a whopping five triumphs better off than any other active player - his record of eight a mark that perhaps may never be bettered.

He won his first UK crown by beating Stephen Hendry as a 17-year-old in 1993. O'Sullivan also lifted the trophy in 1997, 2001, 2007, 2014, 2017, 2018 and 2023.

Amazingly - given that both today's finalists are among the most successful players of all-time - Mark Selby and Judd Trump do not feature in this top-six list. Yet.

One of them will by the end of tonight, though - as each currently sits on two UK crowns, so either Selby or Trump will become a three-time champion in York this evening.

Rousing receptions for both players as they enter the Barbican.

Mark Selby first, followed by Judd Trump.

Both players dressed in black but let's hope for a final full of colour.

The cream has come to the top, the four semi-finalists proved that - the best players know where the middle of the pocket is, no matter how tight they are.

The best players have come to the fore.

  11. Routes to the finalpublished at 13:01 GMT 7 December 2025

UK Championship final: Trump v Selby

Neither player has yet been taken to a deciding frame in this year's tournament - their respective paths have been as serene as they could have hoped for.

Stephen Maguire gave Judd Trump some trouble in his opener but he's cruised through since - while Selby has dropped just nine frames across his four matches.

Surely, they'll both need to dig deeper than they have so far in today's final?

Today's finalists are two of the modern greats but who would rank higher in your all-time list?

While Selby is seeking Triple Crown double figures today, Judd Trump has a mission of his own - hoping to maintain his proud record of winning at least one trophy every year since 2013.

Trump will also go into the final looking to become only the fourth player to successfully defend the UK crown after Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry and Ronnie O'Sullivan.

He beat Neil Robertson 6-3 in Saturday afternoon's semi-final and looks to be getting back towards his best after openly talking about his struggles to hit top form and find a suitable cue this term.

"It is great to be back in the final - the last few months and weeks have been a lot more consistent," said Trump, who lost the Champion of Champions final 10-5 to Selby last month, weeks after being beaten in the Northern Ireland Trophy final by good friend Jack Lisowski.

"I have been in a few finals recently and it is never nice to be on the losing end. I need to use that as motivation and have the determination to come out on the right end."

Mark Selby powered to a 6-3 victory over Shaun Murphy to book his place in the UK Championship final - with the four-time world champion Selby at his clinical best.

"I felt good from start to finish. At the interval I felt relaxed and felt like I was close to playing some decent stuff and I needed to because Shaun hits the ball as well as anyone I have ever played," Selby said.

"If Judd plays like we know he can play, I will have to play somewhere near that to compete as well.

"It has been nine years since I got to the last UK final and even in the Masters I have not done great. It would be nice to try and tick it off and get to 10 [wins in Triple Crown events]."
