Mark Allen takes first frame of final session

A costly miss by Wu Yize leaves the blue over the middle pocket.

Mark Allen pots it then with exceptional cue-ball control nudges the pink off the cushion and over the pocket.

The Northern Irishman duly sinks the pink then dispatches the brown.

Allen clenches his fist in celebration but with a cold stare. He means business.

Brilliant from Wu Yize, as he doubles the brown into the corner pocket.

But the Chinese player gets lucky to finish safe after a reckless attempt on the blue.

    More safety.

Mark Allen fluffs the green and Wu Yize duly sinks it, but with the frame on the line both players engage in a safety battle on the brown.

    Wu 11-11 Allen

A brilliant blue from Mark Allen.

He pots it into the middle pocket and the cue ball nudges the final red - on the cushion - down towards the corner pocket.

Allen is now going after the colours with the frame on the line. He trails Wu Yize 55-48.

As I'm coming out to grab some food, Shaun Murphy is still in the bowels of the Crucible fulfilling his media commitments.

It just shows how long the players are there after the match, which finished at about 17:45 BST.

It's worth bearing that in mind, when you consider how late this could finish tonight.

A break of 28 from Mark Allen but he elects to play safe with four reds still available.

Wu Yize slams a difficult red into the corner pocket drawing applause from the Crucible crowd.

A bit of flamboyance about that but the safety shot which follows is not quite up to scratch.

Absolutely no disrespect here to Mark Allen but a final between Wu Yize and Shaun Murphy could be fireworks and exactly what snooker needs.

    Wu 11-11 Allen

Curious shot from Wu Yize, who leads 54 zip, as he plays a safety into the pack of reds but leaves the cue ball down at the business end of the table.

Mark Allen has a chance here.

This session could be very close. Mark Allen is capable of playing both styles of snooker. Wu Yize will be difficult to stop.

He's gliding round the table during a break of 42 with still a couple of loose reds available.

Snooker is a mental game, and both players were trying to force a mistake from one another last night. It’s poor viewing, but anyone under the same circumstances would do the same, especially with a final place up for grabs. If that was Ronnie playing, a re-rack would have been called earlier. Also, happy birthday, Jimmy White.

An early foul from Mark Allen, attempting a safety shot, leaves Wu Yize with a free ball and he duly pots the brown to kickstart the frame.

It could be a long session if it goes the distance.

But that [record-breaking long] frame, that should never be mentioned again, was probably beneficial to Wu Yize - because he was rocking and rolling and reeling a bit at the end of that session.

But that finished the session off and he's just reset - and he looked a far better player in the third session.

A sensible solution if that situation from yesterday arises again would be to restart the frame with just the reds that are on the table and keep the points as they are. A reset essentially.

I don't know how either player slept after that frame. But they created history, I suppose! That's something they can take away. Wu Yize had lost five frames on the bounce so he didn't mind.

  18. The late late show...published at 19:05 BST 2 May

    Wu 11-11 Allen

We could be burning the midnight oil this evening.

The reason? The longest frame in in Crucible history between Mark Allen and Wu Yize yesterday afternoon has left us playing catch-up.

A farcical 14th frame, in which eight reds were left covering the black over the bottom right corner pocket, lasted a whopping 100 minutes and 21 seconds.

Two frames which were scheduled for Friday have now been tacked on the end of this session, which has the potential for a late finish.

  19. What happened earlier?published at 19:01 BST 2 May

    Wu 11-11 Allen

Wu Yize and Mark Allen produced a gripping session earlier today to finish tied at 11-11, perfectly setting up this evening's final session.

Resuming at 7-7 on Saturday, the third session was a stark contrast to Friday’s marathon, which included the longest frame in the tournament's history.

Wu took early control with a superb 142, adding a 76 and 121 to lead 10-8 at the interval.

Allen, bidding to become a first Northern Irishman to reach the final since 1985, responded with breaks of 56, 85 and 99 to draw level at 10-10.

Wu, 22, hit back with a 140 break - his third century of the session.

  20. Who will Murphy face in final?published at 18:21 BST 2 May

    Wu 11-11 Allen (19:00 BST)

    We'll pause things there.

But we'll be back at 19:00 BST for the conclusion of Wu Yize v Mark Allen in the second semi-final.

With the score at 11-11, as many as 11 more frames may need to be played in the best-of-33 match.

Get the coffees in and we'll be back soon.
