Speaking in February, the seven-time Crucible champion said: “Wu Yize will be world number one - I’d give him three years. He’ll be world champion very soon. A phenomenal player.
“Some compare him to Paul Hunter, but I see a modern-day Steve Davis - more dynamic, more aggressive, with greater cue power and scoring. His positional play, though, is pure Davis: always into the heart of the pocket.
“I practised with him for a few days in Hong Kong, and that’s when you truly see a player’s level. By day two, I knew this kid is special. I’d love to see him fulfil his potential. I expect great things.”

Wu Yize is just an entertaining player full stop.
He's so dangerous.

Rocket, whirlwind, hurricane and cyclone are all taken.
But a similar moniker for Wu Yize is going to have to be rustled up soon after a magnificent century break of 126, made at brakeneck speed.
The Crucible crowd shows its approval to the 22-year-old from China as the players head off for the mid-session interval.

There's absolutely nothing safe on the snooker table when Wu Yize is at it.
Wu 12-13 Allen
Wu Yize never ever lets what happens in the previous frame impact the one he is currently playing.
The 22-year-old thwacks in a long red to ignite a lightning break of 54 and still going. All of the reds are open and in play.

Mark Allen really does look in control of his emotions and his cue action.
He's got this wonderful short bridge, which under pressure is a pretty good way to play the game.
He's got a very distinctive grip - he doesn't grip the cue tightly and strangle the life out of it, it's very light touch which helps him.

What a fabulous effort that was from Mark Allen and with the aid of that double he's got himself back into the lead.

That double gives Mark Allen the confidence to go on and clear the table - bar the black - with a break of 82 to clinch the frame.
The Northern Irishman even entertains the crowd by a attempting a trick shot to pot the black at the end, which does not quite come off.

Everybody loves a double but that was a timely one there for Mark Allen.

Groans from the Crucible crowd when a double kiss on the last red looks to have thwarted Mark Allen's break, only for the Northern Irishman to double it into the middle pocket.
Super stuff!

A nice little break unfolding from Mark Allen - 20 and rising with the table looking fairly useful for him.
Five reds left.

I think Mark Allen is quite aware of the fact that Wu Yize doesn't seem to be killing off the frames like he was in the first session, he seems to be making a lot of tactical errors. His safety play just seems a little bit lackadaisical at times.
Wu 12-12 Allen
A break of 31 from Wu Yize before he attempts to gently open up the reds, only for the cue ball to stick to one of the reds on the edge of the pack.
He lays the white up on the bottom cushion.

Though we may question Wu Yize's tactical nous, there's no question he's one of the great potters of the game at the moment - he can knock them in from anywhere.
That's his strength - that's why he's very capable of winning this semi-final and why he's also capable of winning the final.
Wu 12-12 Allen
Wu Yize misses a red into the middle pocket but Mark Allen faces an uphill struggle with snookers and he's not able to put his opponent under pressure.
Wu returns to the table and with a break of 30 gets over the line.

We've been talking about Wu Yize having a good all-round game for someone so young, and being tactically clever. But he was found out in that first frame.
In a couple of situations he's not as clever as perhaps we first thought - but he's only 22, he'll learn that trade.

Wu Yize is described by Joe Perry as "fearless" and it's hard not to agree after he slams in a superb red stationed a third of the way up the table into the corner pocket.
It allows the 22-year-old to follow up an earlier promising break with a more defining one. He reaches 60 points with some effortless potting.

It's a great shot from Mark Allen but he should never have been left the opportunity to play it.
Poor shot from Wu Yize and it's a bad frame to lose so early in the session.

Wu Yize after a break of 50 should have had that frame in the bag but it's Mark Allen who leads.
