  1. Davidovich Fokina holdspublished at 17:46 BST 2 June 2023

    *Djokovic 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5) 4-2 Davidovich Fokina

The scoreline doesn't look great for Davidovich Fokina, but he's still just the single break down in this third set.

There's no room for error on serve though, with Djokovic closing in on victory.

Big, purposeful hitting from the Spaniard ensures he's off to a good start at 30-0, with Djokovic still showing lingering signs of frustration despite his dominant position. The third seed receives a few more boos from the crowd for his reaction to losing that latest point and the umpire has to ask everyone to settle down.

Play resumes and, after the brief disappointment of a double fault, Davidovich Fokina gets the job done.

"Come on Cam, we're here for you!" shouts one British accent.

Norrie needs all the encouragement he can get at the start of this second set.

  3. 'The French crowd like an underdog'published at 17:44 BST 2 June 2023

    *Norrie 1-6 0-0 Musetti

Cam Norrie has had the crowd against him in his first two matches, playing French players. I wonder if they are going to support him here, just to get behind him. They like to support the underdog.

He’s clearly not playing his best tennis at the minute.

  4. Djokovic holdspublished at 17:40 BST 2 June 2023

    Djokovic 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5) 4-1 Davidovich Fokina*

Oh no. Davidovich Fokina is limping after taking a tumble at the back of the baseline. He takes a moment but looks as though he will be OK to continue...

That slip sees Djokovic reach game point, but the Serb chunters away to his team after failing to close out.

Djokovic lets out a yell, before stepping up to serve out the hold. He's two games away.

  5. Musetti takes first setpublished at 17:39 BST 2 June 2023

    Norrie 1-6 Musetti

No messing around by Musetti as he takes the opening set in just over half an hour.

The highlight of this game was a lovely disguised shot that had Norrie scrambling unsuccessfully to try and get the return at the net.

The Brit battled to get it to deuce but Musetti quickly picked up the next two points to seal the first set.

    Tough, tough going for Norrie.

  6. Townsend/Murray close to victorypublished at 17:37 BST 2 June 2023

    Townsend/Murray 6-2 5-4 Krawczyk/Salisbury*

Jamie Murray and American Taylor Townsend have broken back in the second set of their mixed doubles first-round match against second seeds Joe Salisbury and American Desirae Krawczyk.

They are now a game away from securing their place in the second round.

    *Djokovic 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5) 3-1 Davidovich Fokina

Djokovic doesn't want to allow Davidovich Fokina a look-in as he aims to settle things quickly in the third set, but the plucky Spaniard just won't give up.

Still determined, the 23-year-old battles back to deuce from 40-0 down.

He'll know a break here could really bother Djokovic.

Not happening for Cam Norrie so far.

The Brit wanted to make a fast start, like he did against Lucas Pouille in the second round, but Musetti is a different kettle of fish.

Norrie is being hurried into mistakes by the Italian's relentless returning.

Musetti shows he also has lovely variety, a deft drop-shot bringing an 'Ooh la la" or two.

  9. 'Norrie will want to slam the brakes on'published at 17:35 BST 2 June 2023

    Norrie 1-5 Musetti*

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

This set has flown by. Cam Norrie is going to want to slam the brakes on.

I wonder if we will see a bathroom break after this set.

He's got lots of time to settle and get back into the match.

  10. Norrie broken againpublished at 17:34 BST 2 June 2023

    Norrie 1-5 Musetti*

Making the first serves count has been a real problem for Norrie, making 63% of his compared to 81% for Musetti.

The Italian comes out on top of an 18-shot rally to go 30-15 up and although Norrie gets a good winner on the next at the net, he again makes an unforced error to put Musetti on break point, which he swiftly takes.

  11. Davidovich Fokina holdspublished at 17:32 BST 2 June 2023

    *Djokovic 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5) 3-1 Davidovich Fokina

Great work by Davidovich Fokina to turn the game back in his favour, but a long forehand brings Djokovic to deuce.

The Serb then drives into a forehand to set up a break point, which he fails to take with a missed backhand, before Davidovich Fokina gets himself to safety to just about stay in contention.

  12. 'Musetti isn’t bothered'published at 17:31 BST 2 June 2023

    *Norrie 1-4 Musetti

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Cam Norrie always talks about wanting to extend the rallies.

Lorenzo Musetti isn’t bothered if he wants to do that.

  13. Postpublished at 17:28 BST 2 June 2023

    Djokovic 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5) 3-0 Davidovich Fokina*

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina can't afford to give another break away, or else this is all but over.

But he's hanging on now, with a couple of winners taking Djokovic out to 0-30.

  14. Musetti looking strongpublished at 17:27 BST 2 June 2023

    *Norrie 1-4 Musetti

Musetti is mixing up his shots and that variety is making it hard for Norrie to get into his groove.

The Italian provides the perfect response to Norrie winning his first game of the match by breezing through his service game in the fifth, taking it with an excellent backhand winner after stretching Norrie across the back of the court.

  15. Krawczyk/Salisbury break in second setpublished at 17:26 BST 2 June 2023

    Towsend/Murray 6-2 3-4 Krawczyk/Salisbury*

A single-handed backhand from Joe Salisbury which touches the edge of the right touchline gives him and American Desirae Krawczyk the break in the second set that they need to win if they want to remain in the French Open mixed doubles competition.

The second seeds lost the opening set to another British-American pairing in Jamie Murray and Taylor Townsend.

  16. Djokovic holdspublished at 17:24 BST 2 June 2023

    Djokovic 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-5) 3-0 Davidovich Fokina*

Djokovic is painting the lines, while Davidovich Fokina is beginning to rack up the misses.

However, a forehand winner gets the Spaniard on the board at 40-15 and this time it's Djokovic who hits wide.

Another twist? Nope. Djokovic finds a first serve, following in with a backhand winner for a 3-0 lead.

  17. Postpublished at 17:24 BST 2 June 2023

    Norrie 1-3 Musetti*

Much better from Norrie as he is up and running, taking the fourth game without dropping a point.

He perhaps gets a little lucky at 30-0 when Musetti puts a bit too much on his cross-court return with the final shot of a rally, but Norrie is on the board and that will hopefully settle him a bit.

  18. Postpublished at 17:21 BST 2 June 2023

    *Norrie 0-3 Musetti

Norrie is making a number of poor mistakes here and he is looking frustrated as Musetti extends his lead.

His only highlight of the third game came at 30-15 down when a 16-shot rally ended with Musetti sending a forehand return wide, but the Italian takes the next two points to move 3-0 ahead.

Lots of work to do for Norrie.

A sense of deja vu here.

Cameron Norrie is back on the picturesque Court Simonne Mathieu for a French Open third-round match, like he was almost exactly 12 months ago.

That was also an evening start as the sun dipped in Paris, although a four-set defeat against Karen Khachanov did not finish until just after 11pm local time.

Many expect this contest to go long. But surely not that long.

Is this Djokovic's final break to victory?

The third seed finds the breakthrough early in the third set, doing so to love.

Has he finally broken Davidovich Fokina's resistance?
