Rafael Nadal on BBC Two: "He is a tough opponent when he wants to compete he's one of the toughest you can face. Against the top guys and normally against me he wants to try hard, it was very tough.

"I have been aware of everything. I was just next to him, I don't want to comment on this. Right now it's an important victory for me. Sometimes it's tough to see a couple of things on court. It's amazing how good he is able to play and how quickly he is able to forget about these things. Potentially he is a Grand Slam winner.

"Second set was tough. I think I lost a little bit of concentration. It should not happen. You lose a set against this player, it's so difficult to win tie-breaks against Nick but I was serving well and I think I played with the right determination in that moment."

    Kyrgios 3-6 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-7 (3-7) Nadal

    Stats

These are the numbers for that Centre Court classic.

Kyrgios' shock-and-awe shot-making off the serve and off the ground was not enough to dismantle Nadal's ruthless percentage game.

Kyrgios might have wanted to get into the Nadal serve a bit more. He was certainly struggling to get into rallies.

    Copil/Humbert 6-4 1-6 0-0 Herbert/Murray

Herbert and Murray's first-serve percentage had increased to 66% in that last set. That will have been a big help.

Nick Kyrgios is fantastically talented but can he put it together when it matters? The answer was no because he did some silly shots in tie-breakers.

Is he getting better? Yes, he probably is and when Rafa, Roger and Novak have gone Kyrgios is the obvious one to hold Grand Slam trophies but you have to put it together for seven matches.

  5. Game and second set Herbert and Murraypublished at 20:04 BST 4 July 2019

    Copil/Humbert 6-4 1-6 Herbert/Murray

Murray serves a couple of aces and Herbert puts in a smash and that's the second set all wrapped up.

Momentum can change hands very quickly in doubles.

    Copil/Humbert 6-4 1-5 Herbert/Murray*

Herbert hops up at the net and puts in a smash for a third break opportunity.

After a bit of back and forth and the net, Humbert hits the ball into the net and Herbert and Murray are just one game away from winning the second set.

    Copil/Humbert* 6-4 1-4 Herbert/Murray

Humbert pulls out two big serves to save both break points.

But Murray comes across the net and slams the ball down the middle of his opponents to bring up another break point. Humbert finds himself with an easy smash and it's back to deuce.

  8. Nadal into the third roundpublished at 20:00 BST 4 July 2019

    Kyrgios 3-6 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-7 (3-7) Nadal

Rafael Nadal talking to BBC Sport: "I was aware of everything I was just next to him I don't want to comment on this. It is tough to see some things on court sometimes. It is so difficult to win tie-breaks against Nick, but I was serving well."

He will play Jo-Wilfried Tsonga next.

    Simon 2-6 3-6 6-4 6-3 6-8 Sandgren

Tennys Sandgren, who was always destined to be good at the sport with that name, has just moved into the third round of Wimbledon for the first time.

It is a great win too for the American as he outlasts 20th seed Gilles Simon in a match that lasts three hours 47 minutes and ends 8-6 in the fifth.

That means 12th seed Fabio Fognini is the only seed left in Rafael Nadal's quarter of the draw.

    Second screening at its finest.

Although the buffering and cheering from those watching on Murray Mound somewhat ruined the conclusion for those of us in the media seats keeping an eye on Centre.

When the score appears inside Court One, for those not so fortunate to have a laptop in front of them, there is plenty of applause for the outcome.

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

I haven't seen these type of emotions from Rafael Nadal ever in a second round match. It was a very personal match between Rafa and Nick.

I want Nick Kyrgios to learn from that, he's such a fine tennis player, we want him in tennis, we maybe even need him in tennis once the big three are gone. Yes you should get emotional every now and then but don't get emotional for nothing. You're not going to change the tennis world without winning a major.

    Copil/Humbert* 6-4 1-4 Herbert/Murray

Now it's Herbert and Murray who have a chance at 30-15 up on Humbert's serve.

The Frenchman taps Murray's return out of court and they have two break points.

I'm really happy and impressed for Nick Kyrgios, he came, he played, hopefully that's a continuation for the rest of his season.

That's really going to knock Rafa into form. Kyrgios really pushed him but there were three lazy shots in the tie-break which was disappointing.

    Kyrgios 3-6 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-7 (3-7) Nadal

Nick Kyrgios clears up his side of the umpire's chair, lobbing some towels into the front row.

Rafa Nadal is waiting for him on the other side of the net and the pair walk off, if not together, then at the same time.

It was a superb match and even better drama...

    *Fucsovics 7-6 (8-6) 4-6 6-7 (3-7) 6-2 1-3 Fognini

Fabio Fognini's first-round match went five sets and so has his second. He's on course to advance though as he's 3-1 up with a break in the decider against Hungary's Marton Fucsovics.

  17. Herbert holdspublished at 19:55 BST 4 July 2019

    Copil/Humbert* 6-4 1-4 Herbert/Murray

Copil and Humbert have a sniff at 30-15 up, but the latter hits a forehand into the net and it's even again.

Copil jumps up and down like a toddler having a tantrum after he misses a return and I bet he's even less happy as Murray smashes the ball at him on the next point.

The Brit is very apologetic and Copil comes to the net to accept a handshake.

The pair exchange cursory high fives at the net. That was polite enough. Let's see what the post-match press conference has to offer though...
