    Rose -4 (11)

Another fairway finder, this time on the par-four 12th, for Justin Rose. Just a wedge in hand and 140 yards to the pin.

A slight error of judgement. His ball is a little short and right and hits reverse gear, drifting further from the hole.

He's got a 35-footer to move into outright second...

  2. Postpublished at 22:03 BST 20 May 2023

    Hovland -4, Suh -1 (9)

Hugely important par putt by Justin Suh, from 25 feet, to prevent a third consecutive bogey and remain under par.

Par, too, for Viktor Hovland, whose effort from similar range fell just short. The Norwegian remains leader Corey Conners' closest challenger, two shots behind.

  3. McIlroy makes back-to-back birdiespublished at 22:00 BST 20 May 2023

    McIlroy -1, Lowry E (12)

    Back in business.

Rory McIlroy looks in the mood and a huge cheer erupts as he drops in his second birdie, in as many holes.

Rochester has been good to him in the past, could this be the year he ends his major-championship draught?

  4. Oak Hill giving Scheffler a beatingpublished at 21:58 BST 20 May 2023

    Scheffler -1 (8)

    Katherine Downes
    Radio 5 Sports Extra commentator

Scheffler with four bogeys on the card now. The first 35 holes, just the one bogey, and in the last nine holes he has had five. Such a consistent player, but Oak Hill at the moment is giving him a bit of a beating.

  6. Birdie for Connerspublished at 21:56 BST 20 May 2023

This is all about the iron shot on his approach, which Conners stiffs in close leaving a simple birdie putt that's dispatched with ease to move him to six under.

It's the Canadian's first birdie in 15 holes but that's just fine as long as he's not dropping shots - this is such a tough course to try and chase someone down on.

    Conners leads by two.

  7. Reminder of Rose's 'world class talent'published at 21:56 BST 20 May 2023

    Rose -4 (11)

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent at Oak Hill

This just reminds us of what a world class talent Justin Rose is.

I think Rose would go into that Ryder Cup team with very much a point to prove, having been left out of the team that lost at Whistling Straits. I really think Europe missed his experience,

He was very close to selection but didn't get the nod and I think that hurt him at the time.

He'll be desperate to be back on that team for Rome - and I think he'll be an asset.

  8. Postpublished at 21:56 BST 20 May 2023

    McIlroy E, Lowry E (12)

On to the par five 13th for Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry.

And with the drivable 14th on the horizon. It could be a big half and hour coming up for this pair.

The Northern Irishman clearly fancies this. He finds the fairway off the tee and with his second before clipping in a wedge to three feet.

  9. Rose moves within onepublished at 21:56 BST 20 May 2023

    Rose -4, Block +1 (11)

Justin Rose on the 11th tee. Par three. 175 yards.

Straight over the flag to 15 feet. Downhill. Arrow straight. Slides in the left edge.

And a smile from the Englishman as he points to the fans. He's loving this.

And Michael Block rolls in too to get a shot back. A smile as big as Rose's spreads across his bearded face.

  10. Postpublished at 21:53 BST 20 May 2023

    DeChambeau -2, Koepka -3 (9)

That would have been some birdie for Brooks Koepka.

Errant off the tee, he can't even see the flag from behind a giant hummock but he flings it out and his ball drops 23 feet from the pin.

Off his putt goes and it misses, but it's a fine par on a tricky hole.

Bracing for Koepka to flex his muscles on the back nine.

  11. Viktor back in orange - and back up to four underpublished at 21:49 BST 20 May 2023

    Hovland -4, Suh -1 (7)

Viktor Hovland has busted out the orange trousers in a bid to inject some much-needed brightness into his round.

And judging by his second out of the rough on the par-four eighth, it's worked as he lands a very, very tricky shot nicely on the green.

The change of colour pays further dividends as he squeezes in a 12-footer for birdie - his first birdie of the day.

No such luck for Justin Suh, who drops down further after back-to-back bogeys - maybe he'll be asking his playing partner for colour co-ordination tips.

  12. Chance missedpublished at 21:48 BST 20 May 2023

    Rose -3 (10)

Here's Justin Rose for that birdie... closer to eight feet actually. A firm strike, a fraction too firm. Ball lips out.

A rueful nod of the head. That was a big chance to get within one.

  13. Postpublished at 21:44 BST 20 May 2023

    Rose -3 (9)

Justin Rose is the king of the birdies this week. He's had a quite incredible 13.

And he's looking at number 14 on the 10th. A third fairway finder on the trot off the tee and he's starting to take advantage, firing his iron in to about a dozen feet.

Before he takes this, thumbs up he holes it, thumbs down he misses...

  14. McIlroy's wedge play 'really helping him out'published at 21:42 BST 20 May 2023

    McIlroy +1, Lowry E (12)

    Zane Scotland
Former European Tour player on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

McIlroy's not quite had his game this week. Tiger Woods had given him a call and had been helping him with his game.

He had it on the range but wasn't able to transfer onto the golf course. We've seen him digging in. The wedge play that he's worked on so hard is really helping him out.

  15. Postpublished at 21:42 BST 20 May 2023

    DeChambeau -2, Koepka -3 (8)

Ah that's unlucky for Brooks Koepka as he plots a comeback birdie on eight.

His shot flicks the hole but carries on and he'll have to settle for a par.

Bryson DeChambeau's lie off the green is accommodating and he dinks in towards the flag.

It skips further than he'd like though and he has a fiddly four-footer for par. Safely home.

  16. Hovland hot and botheredpublished at 21:40 BST 20 May 2023

    Hovland -3, Suh -2 (7)

Viktor Hovland flings his driver down in disgust after veering right off the 420-yard par four eighth tee.

It's not that bad. Heavy rough, yes - but the way he reacted you thought it was going to be a lot, lot worse.

He's two over for the day though and maybe things are getting to him.

  17. Scheffler stays dry - somehow!published at 21:39 BST 20 May 2023

    Scheffler -2, Conners -5 (6)

It's a horrible shot out of the rough from Scheffler that nosedives into the creek, but amazingly it skips out of the water and back onto dry land.

A huge break for the American there.

  18. Majestic McIlroypublished at 21:38 BST 20 May 2023

Simply majestic. Rory McIlroy is pretty much hugging the right side of the fairway as he plays his second on the 12th.

It's only a three-quarter wedge, if that from this range but lands and spins his ball left and uses the camber of the green to motor it down to a shade over four feet.

Which he rolls in for birdie.

Almost as good as the late-night cheese on toast that's just been presented to me.

  19. Koepka 'making a decent fist of it'published at 21:35 BST 20 May 2023

    Koepka -3 (7)

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent at Oak Hill

DeChambeau and Koepka are two vital players for LIV Golf.

They prove that the breakaway Saudi Arabia-funded tour does have some really great players on their roster - but the strength in depth could be brought into question.

We saw Koepka make a decent fist of it at the Masters and he's doing the same thing here.

  20. Postpublished at 21:35 BST 20 May 2023

    DeChambeau -2, Koepka -3 (7)

You're going to take some hits round Oak Hill and it's about how you respond.

No worries for Brooks Koepka on the eighth hole as he finds the fairway and plants his approach slap in the middle of the green.

Bryson DeChambeau is going to be scrambling though. He's clunked into the rough at the front having missed the fairway off the tee.
