    Rose -3 (13)

Justin Rose is on the driveable par-four 14th tee. It's a 297 yard carry to the plateau green that is protected by thick rough and three cavernous bunkers.

There's no chance of running a low one onto the green. It's a full carry job.

Rose leaks his drive out right. It's in the deep stuff again. Half decent angle to get at the pin though, which is only a few yards from the front.

  2. Hovland within one of leadpublished at 22:30 BST 20 May 2023

    Hovland -5, Suh -1 (11)

The recent downpour has seen Viktor Hovland swap his orange trousers for rainproofs but it hasn't halted his improvement.

He drills in a brilliant 15-20 footer on the par-three 11th that was straight as a die all the way - and that birdie moves him within one of leader Corey Conners.

  3. Bogey for Rosepublished at 22:29 BST 20 May 2023

    Rose -3 (13)

It's all about keeping the double bogeys off the card at majors. Justin Rose, the 2013 US Open champ knows that.

He tickles in his bogey putt on the 13th.

  4. Postpublished at 22:26 BST 20 May 2023

    DeChambeau -2, Koepka -3 (11)

I said earlier that Bryson De Chambeau had been the best off the tee so far this week.

However, his radar goes haywire at 12 and he thrashes it right, propelling it beyond the punters that line the fairway at Oak Hill.

Brooks Koepka watches with interest before dolloping a perfect drive in the middle of the fairway.

  5. What a mistake to makepublished at 22:24 BST 20 May 2023

    Rose -4 (12)

Justin Rose goes for the high-tariff parachute flop shot out of the rough. Club face is wide open and he slices right under the ball and only succeeds in popping it up about three yards in front of him and still in the cabbage.

He's quickly onto his fifth, attempting the same style of shot. This time he gets it right and the ball settles four feet from the hole.

    Big putt coming up

  6. Postpublished at 22:22 BST 20 May 2023

    DeChambeau -2, Koepka -3 (11)

A shake of the head for Bryson DeChambeau as he knocks his 52-foot putt past the hole.

Never in danger of scoring but he tucks away the follow-up to make par.

Brooks Koepka has the benefit of watching his partner's effort and he goes closer but no luck for him either.

    Pars apiece.

  7. McIlroy scrambles to save parpublished at 22:22 BST 20 May 2023

    McIlroy -1, Lowry +1 (15)

Rory McIlroy's chip on checks early and leaves the Northern Irishman with a very big 12 foot putt to stay in credit.

He's nailed it. He'll walk off the 15th green feeling 10-feet high unlike Shane Lowry, who misses a tiddler of a birdie putt from around three feet.

  8. Postpublished at 22:21 BST 20 May 2023

    Rose -4 (12)

Justin Rose does the hard work on the long 13th. It's too long to reach in two but a drive into the fairway and lay-up to 170 yards puts him in an ideal spot.

"Draw, draw," he says to his ball in mid-flight. It's heading right and plunges into the rough and disappears. He's short-sided himself and he'll need a little bit of magic from there.

  9. Cole finishes on one overpublished at 22:21 BST 20 May 2023

    Cole +1 (F)

American Eric Cole topped the leaderboard at the end of day one but has slipped down the standings gradually since.

He's quietly kept himself in the mix though and ends his third round with a key par putt from 20-odd feet to sign for a very respectable 70.

  10. Postpublished at 22:19 BST 20 May 2023

    McIlroy -1, Lowry +1 (14)

The rain returns and so does an errant Rory McIlroy iron shot.

The world number three, sprays his tee shot right on the par-three 15th and sees it catch the right hump of the green and tumble down the slope.

A decade ago he'd have been in the drink with that but of course that pond was filled in as part of the course redesign.

  11. Horseshoe for Hovlandpublished at 22:17 BST 20 May 2023

    Hovland -4, Suh -1 (10)

Too much pace on Viktor Hovland's birdie chance at 10 - it goes around the lip of the hole and back towards him like a horseshoe.

Easy par putt but he has the look of a man who knows an opportunity has just passed him by. Would have been one off the lead if that had gone in.

  12. Par for Rosepublished at 22:14 BST 20 May 2023

    Rose -4, Block +1 (12)

The Rose putter is a little off target for once. The 35-footer doesn't threaten the hole but he nonchalantly knocks in the three-footer he's left with for par.

Michael Block also in for par. He's putting together an excellent round. A double bogey on the sixth aside, it's been solid. Eight pars.

The par-three 11th is fully 70 yards shorter today at a mere 175 yards.

But that's before you consider the rain, which is seriously teeming down at the moment in Rochester.

Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau are both safely on the green but with lengthy putts coming so birdies seem unlikely.

Nice - and quite unexpected - to see Bryson sporting some Ryder Cup merchandise though.

No doubt hoping to make the team again for Marco Simone later this year.

  14. Lowry with a bogeypublished at 22:13 BST 20 May 2023

    McIlroy -1, Lowry +1 (14)

That's not bad from Rory McIlroy, who misses left but picks up a comfortable par.

Shane Lowry on the other hand is punished for failing to get onto the green from the sand as he clips his third a full 10 feet past and can't sink the return.

He'd have viewed that hole as a birdie opportunity. Well in fairness both players would have.

  15. Conners turns two in frontpublished at 22:11 BST 20 May 2023

    Scheffler -1, Conners -6 (9)

Our final pair make the turn as the rain comes hammering down again at Oak Hill, after already hammering Scheffler over that front nine which contained four bogeys.

Conners has ice in his veins so far and with the back nine playing considerably easier then he will be looking for more birdies yet - as will Scheffler who needs to kick-start his challenge.

  16. Postpublished at 22:11 BST 20 May 2023

    Hovland -4, Suh -1 (9)

The switch back to his trademark orange trousers has really helped Viktor Hovland.

Floats a wonderful iron into the 10th green, around 10 feet from the pin, just as the umbrellas come out again around Oak Hill amid a sudden, heavy downpour.

  17. Postpublished at 22:09 BST 20 May 2023

    McIlroy -1, Lowry E (13)

Rory McIlroy is over in the mud to the right of the 14th green, not where he wanted to be at all really.

He's playing up a small hill to a blind hole and can't get enough check on his ball to prevent it from skipping past the flag at a rate of knots. He'll have at least a 30-foot putt for birdie now.

Shane Lowry zings his tee shot into the front bunker and doesn't get another loft to carry the thicker grass before the fringe.

  18. Keep your head down and grind out every shot you can - Fleetwoodpublished at 22:08 BST 20 May 2023

    Fleetwood +1 (68)

    Tommy FleetwoodImage source, Getty Images

Tommy Fleetwood, who shot a two-under-par round to finish one over for the championship, has been talking to BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra.

"You get out there and you're not going to get away with anything. Keep your head down and grind out every possible shot you can.

"I did a really good job of that. I had some really good chances on the front nine but I think there was a really important stretch through the middle of the round where I holed some really good putts for par saves - they're so important if you want to have any kind of decent round on a day like today."

  19. Rain returnspublished at 22:08 BST 20 May 2023

Just as we looked forward to some nicer scoring conditions, the umbrellas are popping up again round Oak Hill.

Hopefully it'll be a little squall and those long-sleeved tops can be ditched.

  20. Postpublished at 22:06 BST 20 May 2023

    DeChambeau -2, Koepka -3 (10)

No issues for the LIV pair on 10.

Bryson DeChambeau has a decent look at birdie to join his playing partner on three under but it's never on the right line.

Off they head to the 11th tee.
