  1. I went out there and free-wheeled - McIlroypublished at 23:20 BST 20 May 2023

    McIlroy -1 (69)

Rory McIlroy is pleased with his performance after a one-under 69 kept him inside the top 10 at the US PGA Championship.

"The conditions were really uncomfortable, especially at the start," he told Sky Sports. "I just went out there and free-wheeled and said, 'Whatever happens, happens' and tried to embrace it as best I can.

"I'll need that same attitude tomorrow."

With the prospect of better weather on Sunday, McIlroy will hope to get in and among the leaders in the final round to give himself a chance of a fifth major title.

What will make the difference for the world number three?

"My attitude is the most important thing," he said.

    DeChambeau -3, Koepka -5 (15)

When Brooks Koepka's eye is in, there are few better and he proves it once more on the par-four 16th.

After a textbook drive, he homes in on the hole and sets up a 10-foot birdie chance to join the leaders at -6.

Less luck for Bryson DeChambeau though who is scrabbling in the rough beyond the fence once again off the tee.

    Rose -3, Block E (16)

It's absolutely banging it down again at Oak Hill as another squall hits the course.

We find Justin Rose in the sand to the right of the 17th green. He splashes out but doesn't give that enough juice and he's got big work to make par from about 20 feet.

Michael Block hit a 250-yard drive, leaving himself 250 yards to the hole. He makes a good fist of his second but has a 50-footer for birdie.

    Hovland -6, Suh -1 (14)

And another chance beckons for Hovland, superbly finding the centre of the green on the par-three 15th...

  5. Not to be for Viktorpublished at 23:15 BST 20 May 2023

    Hovland -6, Suh -1 (14)

Viktor Hovland's eight-foot birdie chance drifts just wide to the right.

The Norwegian looks very surprised, he thought that would stay straight.

He's had a lot of chances today and that's one he'll think he's left out there.

  6. Another belter from Hovlandpublished at 23:12 BST 20 May 2023

    Hovland -6, Suh -1 (13)

Viktor Hovland has his ball on a sixpence at the minute.

After choosing to lay up on the driveable par-four 14th, instead of attacking it like many have, he manages to land his pitch in the small 10-foot window between the pin and the edge of the green.

Sublime stuff. His reward? A birdie chance to go out on his own at the top.

    Scheffler -1, Conners -6 (13)

It's a chance for Scheffler, but his 12 foot putt is going across a slope and down one so it's not easy at all as there's a load of left-to-right curl on it, which just does for Scheffler as it breezes past the hole.

Conners is again a little tentative in his birdie attempt and seems happy to settle for another par.

  8. Impressed with McIlroy's game performancepublished at 23:11 BST 20 May 2023

    McIlroy -1, Lowry +1 (F)

    Iain Carter
BBC golf correspondent at Oak Hill

I have been impressed with the game performance of McIlroy rather than his game, if you see what I mean.

  9. Postpublished at 23:11 BST 20 May 2023

    McIlroy -1, Lowry +1 (F)

Close but no cigar. Rory McIlroy plays a superb little dink from the rough that looks as though it'll threaten the hole before pulling up.

It'll be a par for the four-time major winner and a second successive 69.

He'll head to the clubhouse five shots off the lead.

Shane Lowry finishes with a flourish chipping in from the front fringe and earns and nice big hug from his playing partner in the process.

  10. DeChambeau pulls another backpublished at 23:10 BST 20 May 2023

    DeChambeau -3, Koepka -5 (14)

Back-to-back birdies for Bryson DeChambeau who is rediscovering his mojo on the way in.

It's a magic tee shot to be fair, and he does the necessary from just inside eight feet.

Brooks Koepka takes aim as well and is close to matching his partner only for the sneaky slope on the green to grab his ball and drift it further away.

Will his birdie putt drop from 27 feet? It's a decent effort and turns at the last but it's not quite hard enough, so he has to take par.

  11. Conners playing a 'smart round of golf today'published at 23:06 BST 20 May 2023

    Scheffler -1, Conners -6 (12)

    Zane Scotland
Former European Tour player on BBC Radio 5 Live

Just the way Conners is playing there, no dramas, just playing a really smart round of golf today.

  12. Rose misses big birdie chancepublished at 23:06 BST 20 May 2023

    Rose -3, Block E (16)

The cult of Michael Block is growing. He's gaining quite the following today and every one of us is urging him to finish this round off in style.

He can't quite hole the birdie putt, his ball finishing one roll short of perfection.

Has Justin Rose learned anything? No, He's a foot short.

  13. Postpublished at 23:05 BST 20 May 2023

    McIlroy -1, Lowry +1 (17)

Rory McIlroy's not in as bad shape as first feared and he's got a decent bit of leeway to run his second in to the green between the two front bunkers.

'Go, go,' says the world number three as he launches his ball on a direct line towards the flag, but that's going to come up a yard or two short.

Into the ankle-covering grass it goes.

  14. Postpublished at 23:02 BST 20 May 2023

    Scheffler -1, Conners -6 (12)

Corey Conners hits the fairway, Corey Conners finds the green - it's repetitive, it's metronomic but it's also seriously impressive.

  15. DeChambeau claws one backpublished at 23:02 BST 20 May 2023

    DeChambeau -2, Koepka -5 (14)

Snap on the par-four 14th for Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau as both thwack their tee shots into the thick rough on the front edge of the green.

Outstanding from DeChambeau as he makes light of an awkward stance to clip it out and have a tap-in birdie.

Koepka is inside five feet as well but, to the shock of the punters, he fluffs his putt past the hole and will have to settle for par.

  16. Postpublished at 23:02 BST 20 May 2023

    Hovland -6, Suh -1 (13)

Viktor Hovland is giving himself a lot of looks at birdies and here's another on the 13th after he lands his iron shot right on the crest of the slope - a couple of inches the other way and that was rolling down into trouble.

But the Norwegian's 17-foot birdie chance pulls up short and he remains as co-leader rather than outright leader.

  17. Postpublished at 23:02 BST 20 May 2023

    Rose -3, Block E (15)

Michael Block heads down the left side of the 16th fairway and clings on to the first cut.

Justin Rose does the same, but down the right.

A low squirter from the American trundles up front and centre on the green - the pin is tucked away on the right so it's a sensible shot.

Rose is on the wrong side to properly go for the pin but gets his ball inside Block's and will get a good read off his playing partner.

  18. Postpublished at 23:01 BST 20 May 2023

    McIlroy -1, Lowry +1 (17)

Rory McIlroy is aiming way left on the 18th tee and he looks like he's expecting this to come back in.

It's not going to though and the 34-year-old chucks his driver up in the air as though he'd be happy not to see it again before catching it and passing it back to his caddie Harry Diamond.

  20. Block 'living in dreamland'published at 22:57 BST 20 May 2023

    Rose -3, Block E (15)

    Katherine Downes
    Radio 5 Sports Extra commentator

Unbelievable and Michael Block looks as though he is saying that too. He cannot believe these putts are going in. He is living in dreamland at the moment.

Justin Rose can't help but give him a smile across the green as well.
