  1. Bogey for Woods, Niemann misses chance to share leadpublished at 20:11 BST 7 April 2022

    Woods E, Oosthuizen +4, Niemann -3 (14)

Now then. Joaquin Niemann has a chance to move back into a share of a lead.

Another birdie putt for the Chilean, who will move alongside Cam Smith if he drops it. Hmmm, not this time.

Back to Woods... his chip leaves a lot to be desired (by his lofty standards, at least) then slides the par putt left.

  2. Smith well on board the birdie trainpublished at 20:10 BST 7 April 2022

    DeChambeau +3, Smith -4 (14)

Cameron Smith is playing beautifully. The Australian lasers his iron shot into the 14th to set up another birdie chance from four feet. Easy-peasy golf, isn't it?

The Players champion is now six under for his last 10 holes and the new outright leader.

Meanwhile Bryson DeChambeau, ends up inches from a tree trunk off the tee, plays back out to the fairway with his second and then duffs his third en-route to a double.

    Woods -1, Oosthuizen +4, Niemann -3 (13)

Like he did earlier on the seventh, Tiger Woods follows a birdie with a poor tee shot. This time, he drags it left after going for a ripper of drive.

"That's the first one he's gone after," muses his former coach Butch Harmon on Sky Sports.

Woods finds his ball on the pine straw, a lie which didn't appear to cause him any physically problems when he hit off them on nine.

The crowd like it. Decent line but just off the back.

  4. McIlroy & Fitzpatrick make first movespublished at 20:07 BST 7 April 2022

    McIlroy -1, Koepka E, Fitzpatrick -1 (2)

McIlroy plays a gorgeous chip from the back of the second, landing it on the fringe and watching it roll down to beside the cup.

It produces the first birdie of his tournament - and Fitzpatrick matches it!

Frustration for Koepka, however, as he three putts for a par (pros absolutely hate that).

  5. Postpublished at 20:05 BST 7 April 2022

    McIlroy E, Koepka E, Fitzpatrick E (1)

McIlroy has absolutely nailed a 373-yard drive down the second.

That helps. He has just 198 yards left for his second, but it's ever so slightly overcooked. He'll have a delicate chip back down the slope, but he should make birdie from there.

Koepka finds the green, but leaves himself all of 70 feet for his three, while Fitzpatrick smacks his approach to a similar position.

    More lag-putting to come...

  6. Matsuyama in the drinkpublished at 20:02 BST 7 April 2022

    Matsuyama +2, Piot (US)* +5, Thomas +2 (12)

Hideki Matsuyama. What have you done?

The Japanese golfer takes up a huge section of turf from the tee and doesn't get a proper connection on his approach which lands on the front bank and then rolls back into the water.

Another bogey for the defending champ. How many holes was it again that he went without one last year?

Justin Thomas and James Piot collect trouble-free pars.

    Finau +1, Scheffler -3, Scott +2 (12)

That's three birdies in four holes for Scheffler.

This world number one tag doesn't seem to weighing too heavily on his head.

  8. Watch: Niemann 'on the money' for an eaglepublished at 20:01 BST 7 April 2022

This eagle two for Chile's Joaquin Niemann at the ninth briefly took him into the lead on his own before he dropped a shot at the 10th.

But he's now back into a share of the lead after that birdie on the 13th.

Watch how he landed the shot of the day (so far) from 105 yards out...

  9. Scheffler moves to three underpublished at 20:00 BST 7 April 2022

    Finau +1, Scheffler -3, Scott +2 (12)

Scheffler has the advantage of having a caddie who boasts two Masters victories. That's Ted Scott, who was the bagman for Bubba Watson's wins in 2012 and 2014.

It's seemingly paying dividends so far, too, as Scheffler is skilfully plotting his way around Augusta's immaculately manicured fairways.

His approach at the 12th shows experience beyond his years. A tad long and left will almost certainly keep a bogey off his card - even better, he drains the birdie putt and jumps to three under!

Scott, meanwhile, needs to get a move on after back-to-back bogeys. He sticks a fine effort in there to 16 feet, but has to settle for par.

But what about Finau? Oh no! He finds the water, just as he did when he was chasing victory in 2019.

To his credit, his third shot is wonderful and he limits the damage to a single dropped shot.

  10. 'Woods stalking his putt'published at 19:58 BST 7 April 2022

    Woods -1 (13)

    Iain Carter
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Tiger Woods is on the verge of making a big move. He is stalking his putt after a brilliant approach shot.

Has he given it enough? Not quite. He bows his head in frustration and taps it in for a birdie.

    He moves to one under.

  11. Postpublished at 19:57 BST 7 April 2022

    Matsuyama +1, Piot (US)* +4, Thomas +2 (11)

Hideki Matsuyama bails out right on the 11th but then can't get up and down in two to drop a shot.

Justin Thomas takes a similar approach but clips his chip in much closer to save his par. James Piot gets exactly the same result after bravely going straight at the pin.

  12. Birdies for Woods & Niemannpublished at 19:57 BST 7 April 2022

    Woods -1, Oosthuizen +4, Niemann -3 (12)

Here we go then... Tiger Woods for eagle on the 13th.

This putt will move from left to right, arcing around in the shape of a rainbow. No pot of gold at the end for Woods, who taps his putter with his ball in exasperation.

A birdie will just have to do. That's what Niemann scribbles down on his card, moving him into a five-way tie for the lead.

  13. Postpublished at 19:51 BST 7 April 2022

    Lowry -1 (14)

Shane Lowry has picked up three shots in two holes to suddenly dip back under par for his round and right into the thick of things.

He's a short game wizard so no real surprise when Lowry chipped in for an eagle on 13, and he followed that up with a fine approach shot from under the trees to birdie 14.

  14. Eagle chance for Woodspublished at 19:51 BST 7 April 2022

    Woods E, Oosthuizen +4, Niemann -2 (12)

The 13th is always the hole where even those struggling at Augusta lick their lips at the prospect of getting their card back on track.

Historically, it is the easiest hole on the course. And today we've already seen one eagle and 17 birdies.

Now Woods has a chance of making a second eagle of the day.

Drawing the ball into the green, his ball kisses the left side of the green and sticks on a surface softened by last night's thunderstorms.

Oosthuizen in with a shout of an eagle, too. Boy, does he need it. Niemann, in a rare sight today, undercooks his approach.

  15. Postpublished at 19:51 BST 7 April 2022

    Finau E, Scheffler -2, Scott +2 (11)

Scheffler's in danger of carding his first bogey at 11 as he sprays his approach out to the right.

The short game's under pressure again. It's a good shot over the bunker, but he still has 10 feet...but he makes it! That's a brilliant par save from the world number one, who has held some decent putts already today.

Finau follows him in but it's another dropped shot for Scott, who was in a similar position to Scheffler in two but failed to get up and down.

    Back-to-back bogeys for Scott.

  16. Three parspublished at 19:48 BST 7 April 2022

    McIlroy E, Koepka E, Fitzpatrick E (1)

McIlroy's approach fails to threaten the flag at the first. He's well below the hole, but he lags a superb putt up to gimme range. That'll do.

Fitzpatrick and Koepka secure their fours, too.

Everyone's out on the course now - the Masters is truly up and running!

  17. 'Willett rolls in an absolute beauty'published at 19:47 BST 7 April 2022

    Willett -3 (15)

    Alistair Bruce-Ball
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

Danny Willett must have those memories burning bright every time he gets to this stage at the 15th.

He's rolled in an absolute beauty for a share of the lead.

  18. Danny dominates the par fivespublished at 19:47 BST 7 April 2022

    Willett -3 (15)

Much like a Grand National horse that comes alive when they get back to Aintree, Danny Willett is finding his best stuff back at Augusta.

One of the keys to success has always been to take advantage of the par fives, and Willett has just birdied 15 to ensure he's picked up a shot on all four of the longer holes.

That's how Zach Johnson won the Masters and Willett's already got one green jacket...

  19. Postpublished at 19:46 BST 7 April 2022

    Rahm E (1)

Jon Rahm leaves himself a long birdie shout at the first that misses by a whisker. Par start for the world number two.

  20. Birdies all aroundpublished at 19:43 BST 7 April 2022

    Berger -2, Fleetwood +4, Kisner +2 (13)

Hello. What a shot that is. Daniel Berger zips his second over the tributary to Rae's Creek onto the 13th green.

Eagle chance, albeit a long one incoming....which starts well off to the right before trickling down the slope to two feet. Birdie.

Tommy Fleetwood also strides onto the green with an eagle chance. The 31-year-old is much closer in but can't sink that one and cards a birdie. Small steps and all that.

Unlike his playing partners Kisner can't get on the putting surface in two but nails a 20-footish putt for his birdie.
