  • Champion: -6 Rahm

  • 121st US Open, at Torrey Pines, California

    Rahm -3, Wolff -2 (8)

It's a huge slice of fortune for Rahm who gets a free drop after that wayward shot. He recovers well and is back on the fairway.

He could salvage par on this par five hole - maybe even better.

  2. Postpublished at 22:21 BST 20 June 2021

    Henley -3, McIlroy -4 (7)

Russell Henley is well and truly unravelling, you have to feel for him.

He was in the bunker off the tee on the eighth and his second shot rolled back down the hill. He could not make the par putt and will have three bogeys in a row.

  3. Rahm out of bounds?published at 22:19 BST 20 June 2021

    Rahm -3, Wolff -2 (8)

Oh, Jon Rahm, what have you done?

Well left off the tee on nine, he appears to have gone over the boundary fence, or so a marshal is signalling.

That could be a disaster for the Spaniard.

  4. Koepka drops a shotpublished at 22:19 BST 20 June 2021

    Koepka -2 (12)

Is bogeying even more painful for Brooks Koepka when Bryson DeChambeau is leading?

A three-putt puts the two-time winner back to two under with six holes left to play.

  5. How close was Bryson on eight?published at 22:18 BST 20 June 2021

  6. McIlroy misses birdie chancepublished at 22:17 BST 20 June 2021

    Henley -3, McIlroy -4 (7)

A prime opportunity missed for Rory McIlroy on the seventh.

He was about six feet from the hole with his second shot, but the putt is no good and he has to tap in for par.

Again, Russell Henley shows that's not the end of the world as he makes it back-to-back bogeys to fall further back.

  7. Morikawa down to four underpublished at 22:17 BST 20 June 2021

    Morikawa -4 (9)

For approximately 30 seconds before DeChambeau claimed his lead, Morikawa earned himself a share on four under with a birdie on the par-five ninth.

  8. Beauty from Brysonpublished at 22:12 BST 20 June 2021

    DeChambeau -5 (8)

    What. A. Shot.

Bryson DeChambeau is on the eighth tee. If you've been with us all week you'll know it's a par three of some difficulty with a bunker protecting the front of the green, and another to catch anything long.

The hole is cut, rather generously, in the middle of the green today. And DeChambeau has almost aced his tee shot.

The ball takes one hop forward and nestles up to the flagstick, about an inch from going in.

We have a new leader folks.

  9. So close for Louispublished at 22:11 BST 20 June 2021

    Oosthuizen -4, Hughes -2

Louis Oosthuizen is millimetres away from regaining the outright lead (for what wouldn't have been long) with a long birdie putt on six that pulls up agonisingly shy of the hole.

He's still co-leading, though, unlike Mackenzie Hughes who rolls a par putt past - that's three bogeys in the opening six for the Canadian, who is feeling the heat of being in the final group.

  10. Postpublished at 22:09 BST 20 June 2021

    Henley -4, McIlroy -4 (6)

Where Henley is floundering, McIlroy is thriving.

He's got himself into a perfect position for birdie with his second shot on the seventh.

  11. Postpublished at 22:09 BST 20 June 2021

    Rahm -3, Wolff -3

Jon Rahm couldn't make that birdie putt by the way. Close but no cigar as they say.

  12. Postpublished at 22:07 BST 20 June 2021

    Henley -4, McIlroy -4 (6)

Oh dear... Is Russell Henley coming undone?

The American found a bunker off the seventh tee and can only hack his way back onto the fairway with his second shot on the par four.

Andrew Priestley: No chance I’m heading to bed with a US Open leaderboard looking like THAT! This is anybody’s tournament.

Michael Sandford: Is Paul Casey playing himself into GBR Olympics team? Joining Hatton who is in top 15 OWGR - qualification ends tomorrow.

  14. Scheffler misses opportunitypublished at 22:07 BST 20 June 2021

    DeChambeau -4, Scheffler -1 (7)

Bryson DeChambeau takes the shortest route possible on the slight dog-leg par-four seventh, cutting off the corner but plunging his ball into yet more rough.

The consequence of that is that he can't control the spin on his second and his ball scurries through the green and down into a dell off the back.

The joint leader is out with the putter and prods his third to two feet in superb fashion.

Here's the lesser-spotted Scottie Scheffler. He's knocked his second to five feet. A birdie will get him to within two of the lead. Lips out.

  15. Bogey for Koepkapublished at 22:05 BST 20 June 2021

    Koepka -2 (12)

Cancel that, it's a bogey for Brooks!

Mis-judged his par putt and he's now two off the lead again.

  16. Postpublished at 22:04 BST 20 June 2021

    Koepka -3 (11)

So many people are suddenly in the running.

Brooks Koepka is one of them after his back-to-back birdies on the eighth and ninth.

He has a 50ft putt to take a share of the lead on the 12th, but it's not to be. Could only be a matter of time though...

  17. Postpublished at 22:04 BST 20 June 2021

    Rahm -3, Wolff -3 (7)

Jon Rahm has a chance to join the leaders after a lovely iron off the tee on the par three eighth.

Not a gimme birdie putt, must be 10-12 feet, but a chance nonetheless.

  18. Leaderboardpublished at 22:01 BST 20 June 2021

    -4 DeChambeau (6), McIlroy (6) Henley (6), Oosthuizen (5)

    -3 Koepka (11), Casey (10), Morikawa (8), Wolff (7), Rahm (7), Hughes (5)

    Selected:

    -2 Migliozzi(15)

  19. Hughes drops backpublished at 21:58 BST 20 June 2021

    Oosthuizen -4, Hughes -3

Mackenzie Hughes is in pretty uncharted territory and it's beginning to show, a second bogey in his opening five holes pushing the Canadian well back into the pack.

Two shots into the sand prior to that did not help.

Louis Oosthuizen stays steady with par.

  20. Henley loses outright lead, par for McIlroypublished at 21:58 BST 20 June 2021

    Henley -4, McIlroy -4 (6)

Rory's birdie putt is actually not as outrageous as it first seemed. About 30ft to the hole, but it's still too much and the Northern Irishman comes up just short.

That will be a par though which is something to be happy with on that horrible sixth hole.

And (ex) leader Russell Henley shows how much worse things could have been. His par putt stays right and the bogey means there is a four-way tie for the lead between him, McIlroy, DeChambeau and Oosthuizen with 12 holes to go!
