  1. DeChambeau to defend?published at 22:48 BST 20 June 2021

    DeChambeau -5 (9)

An hour or so ago I asked who thought Bryson DeChambeau would go on and win this. About four-fifths of you said no.

As he begins his back nine (with another wayward drive), I'll ask again. Thumbs up for Bryson to defend his title. Thumbs down if you think he'll miss out.

From the rough, he finds the heart of the 10th green... will that sway your vote?

    McIlroy -4, Henley -2 (8)

A decent pitch from Rory McIlroy gives him an 11ft birdie putt on the ninth to join Bryson DeChambeau in the lead.

The distance isn't bad, but it will gather some speed so this is still going to be tricky.

  3. Bland finishes on eight overpublished at 22:44 BST 20 June 2021

    Bland +8 (F)

The weekend hasn't quite gone how Richard Bland might have dreamed - and a bogey on the last sort of sums that up after he hit the water and lipped a par putt.

The 48-year-old led the field at the halfway stage but rounds of 77 and 78 have pushed him well down the standings.

Nonetheless, it will be a tournament the Englishman will never forget after threatening to produce one of the all-time golfing fairytale stories.

  5. Scheffler stays alivepublished at 22:41 BST 20 June 2021

    DeChambeau -5, Scheffler -2 (9)

Bryson DeChambeau tickles his ball to get it going on the par-five ninth green. It's all downhill from here. Will the hole stop the ball?

Bryson is waving his arms and swaying his body, trying to coax it in, but that dribbles a couple of feet by. Par.

From a couple of feet closer, Scottie Scheffler keeps his feint hopes alive. He's learned from Bryson's putt and sinks his birdie try.

    Rahm -4, Wolff -1 (9)

"I thought I nailed it," laments Jon Rahm after his approach on 10 spins back from the hole.

It's still a birdie chance, mind, but a mid-distance one.

    Get it and he's co-leader.

    McIlroy -4, Henley -2 (8)

If you're wondering why there hasn't been a Rory McIlroy update for a while, it's because he had some waiting to do on the ninth tee.

Anyway, he's up and running again and has headed down the right side of the fairway and is in some rough about 90ft from the hole with his second shot on the par five.

    Koepka -3 (14)

    Poor Brooks...

He had a bit of work to do to make par on the 14th, in the rough on a slope to the left of the green.

The ball hits the flag and stops dead, so close to popping in. It will at least still be a par. So many people have hit the flagstick this week.

    Morikawa -4 (11)

Collin Morikawa comes inches away from joining Bryson DeChambeau on five under.

Not to be for now and he taps in for a par on the 12th instead.

    DeChambeau -5 (8)

Bryson DeChambeau plays sensible golf on the ninth. He can't reach the green from the bunker so knocks out and makes sure he gets on the fairway.

He's left himself 150 yards to the hole, which is cut on the front left and just over a bunker. Bryson, naturally, takes it on and just makes it over the sand and rough, his ball gripping to leave him a 10-footer for birdie.

  13. Double bogey for Caseypublished at 22:33 BST 20 June 2021

    Casey E (12)

Paul Casey hit the turn at three under after three successive birdies.

But his hopes are gone too after following up a bogey at 11 with a double on 12.

  14. Triple bogey ends Johnson's hopespublished at 22:33 BST 20 June 2021

    Johnson +3, Morikawa -4 (10)

As we wonder who on earth will win this, one player has at least been firmly taken out of the running.

World number one Dustin Johnson unfortunately had a triple bogey after going way left of the 10th green with his second shot, so that's him done for the day.

He's playing with Collin Morikawa, who is one off the lead.

  15. Rahm into share of secondpublished at 22:32 BST 20 June 2021

    Rahm -4, Wolff -1 (9)

Jon Rahm takes full advantage of that free drop out wide on nine, with an amazing recovery for birdie on the par five.

Matthew Wolff is not so lucky, a bogey probably dropping him out of contention with just nine holes to go and so many players above him in such good touch.

  16. Leader finds sand off the teepublished at 22:27 BST 20 June 2021

    DeChambeau -5 (8)

Bryson biffs a big one down the par-five ninth. He really wound himself up for that one, arms and legs shaking out before unleashing some kind of fury on the ball.

It carries 320 yards in the air but when gravity finally completes its job, the ball plunges into a bunker.

I've thought the fairway bunkers have not been particularly penal this week, often a better option to be in the sand than the rough.

Having said that, his chances of reaching the green are now severely hampered.

  17. Birdie for Hughespublished at 22:24 BST 20 June 2021

    Oosthuizen -4, Hughes -3

Well, Mackenzie Hughes needed something to get him going - and he's found it on the seventh with a monster putt for his first birdie of the day.

Louis Oosthuizen is so close to joining leader Bryson DeChambeau on five under from similar distance but it rolls millimetres by, to the left.

    Fine margins.

  18. Birdie for Koepkapublished at 22:24 BST 20 June 2021

    Koepka -3 (13)

After a bogey on the 12th, Koepka is back in the game with a birdie on 13.

Two off supposed arch-enemy Bryson DeChambeau now.

  19. Leaderboardpublished at 22:24 BST 20 June 2021

    -5 DeChambeau (8)

    -4 Morikawa (9), McIlroy (8), Oosthuizen (7)

    -3 Koepka (13), Rahm (8), Hughes (7)

    Selected:

    -2 Migliozzi (15), Casey (11), Henley (8)

  20. Par for McIlroy, bogey for Henleypublished at 22:23 BST 20 June 2021

    Henley -2, McIlroy -4 (8)

Rory McIlroy can't get his 20ft putt down for a birdie, but he's in for a par.

Not bad from the former US Open champion, but he'll have to hope Bryson DeChambeau doesn't stretch out his lead after that impressive eighth hole.

Russell Henley drops further back with a third bogey in a row.
