Summary

  • Champion: -6 Rahm

  • 121st US Open, at Torrey Pines, California

  1. Birdie for Morikawapublished at 20:41 BST 20 June 2021

    Morikawa -2, Johnson -1 (2)

Superb from Collin Morikawa on the second.

His second shot ended up just 2ft from the hole, and he taps it in to get up and running.

Who is going to win this thing? Couldn't begin to guess.

Dustin Johnson hasn't made his move yet - it's another par for him.

  2. Birdie for Rahm on the firstpublished at 20:39 BST 20 June 2021

    Rahm -3, Wolff -1

Matthew Wolff can't save his par - but it's a far more enjoyable first hole for playing partner Jon Rahm who confidently guides in a birdie putt to start off in style.

The Spaniard within two of the lead - he's surely going to win a Major at some stage, will it be tonight?

  3. Will DeChambeau defend?published at 20:37 BST 20 June 2021

    DeChambeau -3, Scheffler -2 (20:33)

Defending champion Bryson DeChambeau was four over par after 21 holes of this tournament.

He bounced back on Saturday with his first bogey-free round in a major as his three-under 68 lifted him to within two of the summit.

If he can find similar form today he could become the first player to win successive US Open since... Brooks Koepka (2017/18). I wonder if Brooks will be waiting by the 18th green to congratulate him if it happens...hit thumbs up if you think BDC will win this. Thumbs down for no.

He starts with an anxious look after his drive, which plunges into a fairway bunker down the left. If nothing else, it's a good angle in to the back right flag from there.

Scottie Scheffler, who turns 25 tomorrow, has already driven into the rough.

  4. Postpublished at 20:33 BST 20 June 2021

    Wolff -2, Rahm -2

Matthew Wolff pays the price for a slightly errant shot into difficult rough at the very edge of the first green.

His chip on to the green easily bypasses the hole and the American will have a challenging par putt.

  5. Is it Rory's day?published at 20:33 BST 20 June 2021

    McIlroy -3, Henley -5 (20:44 BST)

Yesterday it was exactly 10 years to the day since Rory McIlroy won his first major at the US Open.

And at times on Saturday he looked like that carefree 22-year-old, chipping from the rough on the 12th for a birdie before recovering from a flagstick hit on the 12th to shave off another shot.

Yesterday we asked you for a thumbs up if you wanted the Northern Irishman to win and over a thousand people responded, so it seems he'd be a popular champion.

He is two back and will be on the first tee alongside Russell Henley in 10 minutes.

  7. Pars for Johnson and Morikawapublished at 20:28 BST 20 June 2021

    Johnson -1, Morikawa -1 (1)

A fairly quiet start by Dustin Johnson and Collin Morikawa.

Morikawa had a decent chance from 13ft, but failed to make anything of it and it's pars all round.

  8. Early starters any indication?published at 20:27 BST 20 June 2021

Those at the top of the leaderboard are going to have a testing time of things if the early scores are anything to go by.

There are a LOT of over-par rounds out there so far on Sunday.

Patrick Reed has hit a 67, Hideki Matsuyama a 68 - but they are very much the aberrations to the rule.

  9. Big move from Thomaspublished at 20:27 BST 20 June 2021

    Thomas -2 (5)

This title is wide open. So wide open.

Justin Thomas started the day at level par and after parring the first three holes, his round sparked to life on the fourth.

In a bunker off the tee, he pinged his second to a foot. Birdie.

And then on the fifth the world number two has just rolled in a 33-footer for another birdie.

  10. Postpublished at 20:26 BST 20 June 2021

    Rahm -2, Wolff -2

Our fourth-last group has just teed off - Jon Rahm and Matthew Wolff both seeking their first Major title.

Both beginning their final round on two under - and both splitting the fairway with picture perfect tee shots on the first.

  11. Postpublished at 20:20 BST 20 June 2021

    Poulter -1 (3)

Ian Poulter has just rolled a birdie putt inches by on the par three third.

That would have been back-to-back birdies. He's gutted. He knows what a momentum builder that would have been.

Super start, nevertheless, from the Englishman.

  12. Bland playing for pridepublished at 20:16 BST 20 June 2021

    Bland +4 (8)

For 36 holes at Torrey Pines England's Richard Bland dared to dream. At the age of 48 he became the oldest man to be in the halfway lead at the US Open after getting to five under par.

Saturday was a day to forget though. Despite being the third most accurate player off the tee, he had six bogeys in a birdie-free six-over 77.

And his final round has continued in the same vein so far with three bogeys in his opening eight holes.

  13. Postpublished at 20:15 BST 20 June 2021

    Johnson -1, Morikawa -1

"Holy cow!" is how the crowd responds to former PGA champion Collin Morikawa.

Former US Open winner Dustin Johnson gets a "wow". They are both, of course, deserving of such praise. Straight down the middle, lovely start.

The cameras cut straight to Rory McIlroy over on the range, ensuring he'll have a similar start later on. His tee time is at 20:44 BST FYI.

  14. Schauffele moving on uppublished at 20:13 BST 20 June 2021

    Schauffele -2 (1)

Xander Schauffele has played in four US Open championships. He has always finished in the top six.

The American is starting this final round just four shots off the lead and that could soon be down to three after hitting a pin-seeker on the first.

Schauffele has left himself a four-footer to get moving in the right direction.

He has been the best putter in the past four US Opens and he shows why with a confident roll for an opening birdie.

  15. Johnson about to tee offpublished at 20:10 BST 20 June 2021

    Johnson -1, Morikawa -1 (20:11 BST)

You might not have considered world number one Dustin Johnson to be in the mix when he was two over at the halfway stage.

But you don't get to the top of the world rankings without being half decent and his 68 yesterday left him on one under.

He's heading to the first tee now, as is fellow American Collin Morikawa . Things are about to get interesting...

  16. Birdie for Poulterpublished at 20:07 BST 20 June 2021

    Poulter -1 (2)

You'll notice Ian Poulter's name on that leaderboard entry.

The Englishman is threatening to follow up his excellent 68 yesterday, with a short birdie putt on the second hole already putting him under par on Sunday.

Another 68 could post an interesting clubhouse target of -4. Or is he looking for better?

  17. Leaderboardpublished at 20:05 BST 20 June 2021

-5 Mackenzie Hughes, Louis Oosthuizen, Russell Henley

    -3 Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau

-2 Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm, Matthew Wolff

-1 Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Xander Schauffele, Brooks Koepka (2), Ian Poulter (2), Justin Thomas (4)

  18. Final-day tee timespublished at 20:03 BST 20 June 2021

So, here we are - the final few groups of the 2021 US Open.

Some of these players have already teed off now with the majority still to come - and the champion will surely be one of those named below, barring an absolute miracle.

    • 19:27 Brooks Koepka (US), Sungjae Im (Kor)
    • 19:38 Francesco Molinari (Ita), Ian Poulter (Eng)
    • 19:49 Paul Casey (Eng), Kevin Streelman (US)
    • 20:00 Xander Schauffele (US), Christiaan Bezuidenhout (SA)
    • 20:11 Collin Morikawa (US), Dustin Johnson (US)
    • 20:22 Matthew Wolff (US), Jon Rahm (Spa)
    • 20:33 Scottie Scheffler (US), Bryson DeChambeau (US)
    • 20:44 Rory McIlroy (NI), Russell Henley (US)
    • 20:55 Louis Oosthuizen (SA), Mackenzie Hughes (Can)
  19. Early birdie for Koepkapublished at 20:03 BST 20 June 2021

    Koepka -1 (2)

It is a pretty big ask for Brooks Koepka to win his third US Open title this year after starting the day five off the pace on level par.

However... he has already birdied the second so we'll keep an eye out.

  20. What happened in round threepublished at 20:02 BST 20 June 2021

Moving day lived up to its name on Saturday, thanks mostly to Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau.

The 2011 winner and the defending champion shot a 67 and 68 respectively to end the day on three under.

That's two short of the lead shared by Russell Henley, Mackenzie Hughes and Louis Oosthuizen.

Oosthuizen joined the partly after an incredible 50ft eagle putt on the 18th. It was all quite dramatic in the end.

Sadly for English joint halfway leader Richard Bland, though, it was dramatic for all the wrong reasons. He was in the water on the last hole and eventually carded a 77.
