And then there was two at the top…
-5 Reed (2*), Thomas (2*)
-4 English (4*)
-3 DeChambeau (F), McIlroy (2)
-2 Cabrera Bello (F)
-1 Todd (4*)
-2 Cabrera Bello (F*)
Spain's Rafa Cabrera Bello certainly had the putter working late on as birdies at three of his last four holes - six, seven and nine - catapult him back up to sixth and on two under.
-5 Thomas, +3 Woods, +6 Morikawa (2*)
Justin Thomas, sporting the zip-up gilet and sailor-esque stripy polo combo, wriggles in his second par of the day - do that all the way round and he'll probably be a happy man this evening.
Collin Morikawa, the US PGA Champion, sticks it down for too. As does Tiger.
-3 English (3*)
Hello, Harris English is on the move. A birdie at 12 lifts him up to three under for the championship.
+8 Fleeetwood (F)
The projected cut is six over and that was the score England's Tommy Fleetwood was on after 16 holes.
But bogeys on both the last two holes could prove extremely costly. It was an eventful back nine for the world number 15 with three birdies, five bogeys and one par.
-3 DeChambeau (F)
Talk about prep. Bryson DeChambeau says he was out hitting balls "in the dark" last night because he knew the conditions today would be different to Thursday.
"It was super-difficult to hit fairways but when I did I was able to capitalise on that," he said.
-5 Thomas, +3 Woods, +6 Morikawa (1*)
That's a cracking shot on the 11th tee from Tiger.
He had a pretty mixed bag on Thursday carding five birdies, six bogeys and a double.
You'd have thought his hopes here rest on if he can stay on the short stuff off the tee.
And that was the perfect start. Looks like it was hit at 75-80% full force.
+1 Rahm (F*)
Two rounds gone for the world number two and Jon Rahm is still in contention as a two-over-par 72 follows a one under 69 yesterday.
He's at one over going into Saturday and if you've got a bet on him winning this, you'll still be very interested. He does end with a bogey though after missing an eight-footer on the ninth.
-4 McIlroy (1)
Rory McIlroy is under way with a booming drive down the first fairway - no need to look after that ball and the Northern Irishman is quickly picking up his tee.
His second is even better, a tracer to the flag it thuds into the green, and bites. Just 10 feet left for a birdie.
He talked earlier in the week of making a quick start - he's got the perfect opportunity here.
Straight in the front door. Boom.
-5 Thomas, +3 Woods, +6 Morikawa (1*)
That is a great par for Tiger Woods on the 10th.
The three-time US Open champion went off the back of the green but played a delicious little chip back on before holing out.
No major problems for Justin Thomas or Collin Morikawa who both also make three.
+13 Mickelson (F*)
Phil Mickelson ends his 2020 US Open campaign with a bogey after missing two putts from about three feet out
That sums up a miserable two days and he is on +13 and on his way home.
He actually started the tournament with back-to-back birdies but that seems a long time ago. A desperate failure to find fairways (2 of 14 on Thursday and 4 of 14 on Friday) saw him sign for scores of 79 and 74. Over and out.
-5 Reed (2*)
Patrick Reed opens with a straightforward par on the 10th and he's set himself up with an 18-foot birdie chance on the 11th, despite finding the rough with his tee shot.
And Captain American rolls it in. Fast start.
-5 Thomas, +3 Woods, +6 Morikawa
Here we go one of the big groups is heading out.
Justin Thomas, Tiger Woods and Collin Morikawa are now on the 10th tee at Winged Foot.
As the last of the early starters finish up and the late starters head out, it's time to take stock.
There have been just two completed rounds under the par score of 70. Just two. Step forward Bubba Watson (69) and Bryson DeChambeau (68). Yesterday there were 23.
And everyone's favourite golfing scientist DeChambeau is setting the clubhouse pace on three under par
The big-hitting American said he was going to come out and try and overpower the course this week and an eagle-three at his last hole in round two has seen him set the pace.
The only players above him on the leaderboard are the leader Justin Thomas on five under, Patrick Reed on four under and Rory Mcilroy on three under - but they've
What are the odds on Bryson setting the halfway pace in a few hours?
-3 DeChambeau, +2 Finau, +3 Johnson (F*)
What a way to finish. Bryson DeChambeau strokes in a lovely putt for eagle.
That's a 69 and a 68 for him and sees him jump up to a tie for third place with Rory McIlroy who is yet to strike a ball in anger.
Tony Finau and Dustin Johnson both salvage pars but will view that as a chance missed to make up lost ground.
E Rahm (17*)
At the turn, things were threatening to unravel for Jon Rahm as he had bogeys at the 17th and 18th and nearly snapped a club over his knee.
He then dropped another shot at the third, but he has recovered nicely and will be glad all his equipment is still intact.
Birdies at the seventh and then another at the eighth courtesy of a four-foot putt takes him to tied ninth with one hole to go.
E Schauffele (F)
Xander Schauffele is also in the thick stuff down the left after tugging his drive on the 18th.
One last good swing needed for the young American and he can't get on the green in two from there. A chip up and on to the green but he can't hole the par putt from a dozen feet.
Another bogey-bogey finish.
-1 DeChambeau, +2 Finau, +3 Johnson (17*)
Dustin Johnson and Tony Finau again drift right off the tee. Not helpful for either player, with both surely hoping to finish with a flourish.
Bryson DeChambeau smashes his straight and long. No sat nav needed for him.
+1 Oosthuiizen (F)
It's the stuff of nightmares for Louis Oosthuizen. Two trips to the rough sees him struggling down the 18th and he finally gets on the green with his fourth shot.
Two putts needed though and that's a double bogey finish. The South African has shipped four shots in his final three holes. Wow.
-1 Schauffele (17)
Xander Schauffele is on the front edge of the 17th green in two but he's got a monster 50-footer up the slope. It's going to be a super-slow putt and the American just hasn't hit that.
The ball pulls up a good 15 feet short, a huge error in judgement there and he pays the ultimate price. A three-putt bogey.
