    Leicester v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

Leicester can win consecutive league games against Liverpool for the first time since 1999.

Liverpool's loss in this fixture last season ended a run of three league victories at Leicester.

The Foxes have lost their final league game in just two of the last 10 calendar years, although one of those defeats came against Liverpool in 2017.

    Leicester v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on Covid-19 impact: "We have one young player who is now isolating and two staff.

"It's really tricky. Every morning when you come in it's a little bit like a lottery, you hope it's all fine and then one case.

"That's the situation, but apart from that we are fine."

On Leicester's performance vs Manchester City: "Leicester are not in a good situation. They have injuries.

"We went out for training when it was 4-0 and then I was told it was 4-3. Wow! They were obviously close.

"They are a good team and what Brendan [Rodgers] is doing is exceptional."

  3. Covid & injury disruptionpublished at 18:32 GMT 28 December 2021

    Leicester v Liverpool (20:00 GMT)

There has been disruption to the fixtures schedule with a number of games getting postponed but Leicester were able to field a team (just) on 26 December.

They were crippled with injuries and lost 6-3 to Manchester City but it was an entertaining game and they threatened to comeback from 4-0 down.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's game with Leeds United was postponed because of Covid-19 cases at the Yorkshire club.

That break allowed Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, Thiago and Curtis Jones to return to training after their Covid-19 isolation periods ended.

All four could feature for the Reds today, while Leicester hope to have Jamie Vardy and Timothy Castagne fully fit.

  6. 'Fantastic to get point against team on fire'published at 17:58 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Southampton 1-1 Spurs

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl to BBC Sport: "When you play nearly 60 minutes with one men down two days after a very hard game and then you see the boys fighting, there’s no chance to be more proud than today, especially after a very intensive first half.

"We made a fantastic goal and one mistake. [For the red card we should] let him shoot. Let him shoot and Fraser could make the save. We deserved to get something.

"We had chances to score. Fantastic for us to get point against a team on fire. We surprised them a little bit with our shape.

"They had a lot of entries in our box and half chances but we defended well. Fraser did a good job today. Good to take the point.

"We have a team you can really identify with. Unbelievable effort in every game. I don’t want to speak about our limits as a club."

  7. 'Not talking about the top four'published at 17:57 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Watford 1-4 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes: "A really good result.

"Mark Noble played so well today for someone has not played as much but he has a great attitude.

"We are not talking about the top four, you are. We are only talking about doing the best we can."

On decision to rule out Jarrod Bowen's strike at 2-1: "It looks like we have gone back to where we were a year and a half ago with soft free kicks and it will be a shame for the game if that is the way we are going.

"I didn't complain at the time but ludicrously soft it was. I can't believe that goal wasn't given."

On surpassing Harry Redknapp to become the third most victorious manager in the Premier League with 237 wins: "I am smiling. It is a long journey. Everyone has done this job will tell you how hard it is to win the games, and to stay in the job sometimes."

  8. 'We never gave up'published at 17:55 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Watford 1-4 West Ham

    Watford

Watford boss Claudio Ranieri, speaking to BBC Sport: "The positives were the start and that we never gave up, we tried until the end but of course we must learn to make the right decisions individually and as a team. We have to talk together to find the right solution.

"In one minute we conceded two goals. When we had the momentum at the beginning of the second half we conceded a penalty and it was difficult after.

"We score goals but it is important to maintain the clean sheet. We had to play better or help each other much better.

"The Covid situation is not an excuse but when you have had just one training session together it is not easy to prepare. I hope this week nothing happens and we can train every day.

"Now it is important for us to think about ourselves and find the solution and help each other to find this.

"The players tried to do the best. We have to continue but of course improve."

  9. 'We lacked game management'published at 17:53 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 3-0 Norwich

    Norwich City

Norwich manager Dean Smith, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “I'm disappointed today with the manner of the goals we conceded. We could have made a fight of it today, but the goals we conceded in the 38th and 42nd minute took the game away from us.

"Will [Hughes] has won himself a penalty rather than earned it – I have no complaints about it, that’s what happens in a game. I just felt we were too passive in our own penalty box, which caused their goals today.

"We have a young squad. We lacked game management. They’ve got the more senior players in their squad and you could see that. Physically they probably won 60 per cent of their duels. You have to do that sometimes just to earn the right to play.

"I didn’t have a lot of choice with the team and the subs today. If that's what the Premier League want, so be it. We should never be asked in the current climate to put players through that [two games in three days]. Players will keep topping up the injury list.

"We had three who dropped out yesterday. Max Aarons, Teemu Pukki and Todd Cantwell all pulled out. It’s a really hard time, not just for ourselves but for everyone at the moment.

"I just told the players the half-term report - it’s not good enough and it needs to be better. If they want to maintain any kind of semblance of a Premier League team, we have to turn it around very quickly. It doesn’t help we only have ten senior players."

  10. 'We've had a great year'published at 17:51 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Watford 1-4 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes, speaking to BBC Sport: "We didn't start the game well but we played well enough in the first half to be in a strong position and a bit more care at times we probably could have scored more.

"We never really got that momentum we have had [early on] and the rhythm in the game but there were moments. We have come away from home to Watford who are fighting for their lives and we have won 4-1.

"I thought Mark Noble was as good as anyone on the pitch today. He is a great leader and he has that ability he can come into games, he could have played more.

"We have had a great year, we really have. We have had a lot of wins this year. We are back challenging which was not the situation maybe even two years ago. To be talked about in the top four or Europe this year is a big turnaround."

On Bowen's strike being ruled out: "We're back to soft challenges. We don't want to go back to that. I'm amazed they ruled the goal out. The games have been refereed well in the main this season but I thought that was a poor decision."

Re: Dax 17:07. An awful performance? What did you watch? spurs had two perfectly good goals ruled out. Should've been 3-1, fully deserved 3 points. Had those goals been allowed, would you still say it was awful? Didn't think so. Alex, Norfolk

Robert Weaver: I thought this season the rule was if the lines are touching the benefit goes to the attacker who is deemed onside. So why did VAR overrule Kane's goal?

  12. 'We have to be disappointed'published at 17:50 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Southampton 1-1 Spurs

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Antonio Conte to BBC Sport: "We have to be disappointed because you have to exploit the situation against 10 men.

"To play after 44 hours is not easy because you need to recover from the last game. Maybe the fatigue caused bad decisions especially when we arrived in their box. It’s not easy to take a good result in this stadium. In the end we could do better.

"I don’t want to comment on this decision or situation [to disallow a goal for a foul on the keeper]. There is the referee and the VAR. We have to accept the decision.

"He [Harry Kane] played a good game. He could have scored twice. His performance was good. At the end he played a bit of fatigue like the whole team. It’s OK."

  13. Postpublished at 17:49 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 3-0 Norwich

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace assistant manager Osian Roberts, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was important for us today to get a good result. Two games in close proximity is always demanding, but getting a good start today was really important. We managed to build on that as well so we’re really happy with the performance and the result.

"It’s important that we don’t rely on one or two players and also that we have players in the squad who can contribute. Jean-Philippe Mateta has been waiting in the wings, training well and waiting for the opportunity. He grasped it with both hands. We’ve got a group of players working in the same direction and that’s what we expect from them when they get the opportunity.

"We’re in a situation where we have players out. We really just have to focus on the players we have available on a day-to-day basis. Hopefully we’ll have a few more back for the West Ham game."

On Patrick Vieira's absence: "We need him back as soon as possible, but we made sure that everything he wanted done was done to the best of our ability. I’m not exactly sure when [he’ll return], but I think it will be fairly soon."

  14. 'Bowen has been fantastic for us'published at 17:48 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Watford 1-4 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham midfielder Mark Noble, speaking to BBC Sport: “I think it was always going to be tough here because we had a lot of players here who played two days ago and Watford had a lot of time off with Covid issues. They started with a great goal for Dennis but then I think we controlled the half and deserved to go 2-1 up.

“It was important to get the third goal, it gave us an important buffer. When you put yourselves in that position you are going to miss at some point [taking penalties]. It was nice to have a couple after and today was important because it gave us a nice buffer.

“We were always going to miss Dec [Declan Rice]. He is one of the best in that position in the world. Today was about the team, we had a lot of players who had played two games and a lot of football this part of the year. It was so important the team dug in. When you are a player of my age you need the players around you to graft and I thought the boys were fantastic.

“Bowen has been terrific. You saw his quality for the last goal, he put it on a plate for Nicki. You know what you are going to get with Jarrod. He has been a fantastic signing for us. It is very important we keep him fit.”

  15. 'Goalkeepers get too much protection'published at 17:47 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Southampton 1-1 Spurs

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs defender Eric Dier to BBC Sport on their disallowed goal: “It didn’t look that bad.

"I thought there was a Southampton player in his [Fraser Forster’s] way. Goalkeepers get too much protection, especially outside the six-yard box. They can jump and use their hands which is an advantage enough.”

Surely time for Norwich to start planning for the Championship next season? Whether they keep Smith, what to do with their high value assets like Cantwell etc.

    Marcus, Cheltenham

Seven matches as a deep lying midfielder for Norwich, and Gilmour has repeatedly given away the ball, been outmuscled, offered no creativity or defensive steel. 22 goals conceded, 1 scored in those matches. It's not just his fault and he has a bright future, but he's a huge part in our failure. He needs to go back to Chelsea.

  17. 'We've made it too easy for them'published at 17:45 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 3-0 Norwich

    Norwich City

Norwich defender Sam Byram: "We gave ourselves our own problems, from our corners and our free-kicks. We’ve made it too easy for them to counter-attack. We said before the game we needed to be hard to play against – we’ve done the opposite to be honest.

"As a team we need to be stronger all over the pitch. It’s about the basics. The team haven’t done that today.

"We’ve created good chances but a lot of them came when we were 3-0 down. The next goal might have changed things. In the second half we were better, but when Palace are 3-0 up they took their foot off the gas."

On his return from injury: "I feel good. I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. It’s hard to think about that after that performance. It’s something that probably won’t sink in for a while until we’ve put this right."

  18. Norwich need to make historypublished at 17:40 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 3-0 Norwich

So, Norwich are bottom of the league on 10 points. The team bottom of the table at the turn of the year has gone on to be relegated in 25 of the 29 complete Premier League seasons.

The four exceptions are West Bromwich Albion (2004/05), Sunderland (2013/14), Leicester City (2014/15) and Swansea City (2016/17). All four of those teams had at least 11 points at the turn of the year.

  19. 'It's an important result'published at 17:34 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 3-0 Norwich

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace's Jeffrey Schlupp, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It’s obviously an important result for us. We needed to bounce back from the result against Tottenham and we managed to do that.

"As soon as I saw the ball come into the box I was anticipating a ricochet. I just wanted to get it on target and I managed to get it in.

"Especially in this period where the games come thick and fast, you have to have good squad depth. We have players coming in who maybe haven’t played as much as others, but we’ve still managed to put in a great performance and win 3-0. It gives us confidence.

"We want to play attacking football and press high up the field and we’ve showed that in the games we’ve played. We’ve managed to score 3-0 goals and get a good win today."

  20. Record breakerpublished at 17:30 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Southampton 1-1 Tottenham

It may only have been a draw today against 10-man Southampton but Antonio Conte (7, W4-D3-L0) is the first Spurs manager to remain unbeaten in his first seven league matches as manager of the club.

He surpasses Jacques Santini (W2-D4-L0, August to September 2004) and Tim Sherwood (W5-D1-L0, December 2013 to January 2014).
