  1. 'Keep things in perspective'published at 17:25 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Southampton 1-1 Spurs

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs defender Eric Dier: "Disappointed especially after they went down to 10 men we've got to win the game and we couldn't do that.

"They defended very well and fought for each other but that doesn't matter from our side of it. We have to be able to break them down. We weren't good enough at doing that.

"We've got to keep things in perspective. Everyone can see the progression.

"I'm enjoying learning how to play in this system."

  2. 'Important three points for our confidence'published at 17:19 GMT 28 December 2021

    Watford 1-4 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek: "Five games we couldn't win, we sometimes played well and sometimes we played bad but I am happy we win and score four goals. A big achievement but we have to get back ready for the next game.

"It was good to score the first goal and help the team for this win. I think we played well despite losing 1-0 so I was happy to score.

"We keep pushing. This three points is important for our confidence and spirit. We can start next year with a win and this is the best way for what we want to do."

  3. 'Our quality shone through'published at 17:15 GMT 28 December 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 3-0 Norwich

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace midfielder Will Hughes: "The win was needed off the back of the last couple of results and with a diminished squad. Our quality shone through in the end.

"I don’t think we started great in terms of intensity, but the penalty calmed us down. It was [a penalty] in my eyes.

"When you’re 3-0 up at half-time it’s about managing the game. You don’t want to give them a sniff, because in the Premier League when a team gets a goal back, they’re right back in it.

"Every game in the Premier League’s tough in its own way. If we match their intensity and their work rate, we know we have the quality to shine through. We showed that, especially in the first half.

"When you play twice in two days it takes a toll on your body, but everyone’s in the same position. We just have to get on with it.

"We know how tight it is [in the table], especially in that middle pack. It’s good to create some distance between ourselves and the teams at the bottom."

    FT: Southampton 1-1 Spurs

    Southampton

Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse to Amazon: "We wanted to play an aggresive style of play and Sali is an aggresive player. We had to make sure we stuck in.

"It's not easy with a lot of games but we need to get as many points as we can."

Dax Fullbrook: Awful decisions aside, this has been a poor second half performance by THFC. Against 10 men this game should’ve been won.

  6. Chilwell to have knee surgerypublished at 17:06 GMT 28 December 2021

A bit of news coming out of Chelsea this evening... bad news too.

Ben Chilwell is going to need knee surgery.

"After a knee injury in the match against Juventus the Chelsea medical department, in collaboration with their knee specialist, took the decision to attempt a conservative rehab approach," reads a statement on the official Blues website.

"Unfortunately Ben was unable to progress and so collectively the decision has been taken to proceed this week with a surgical repair.

"Chilwell suffered the injury in our home win against Juventus on 23 November. Including that game he had made 12 appearances this season, nine of them starts, and enjoyed a rich vein of scoring form in October with four goals in five games for club and country."

Flonso: I think we need a transfer window for referees.

Being a referee myself, I couldn't agree more from the point made by Rory, Slapton. The abuse, threats and violent behaviour from players and managers at grass roots is appalling which results in many excellent refs leaving the profession. It's a massive issue and nothing is being done.

    Elliot, London.

If only we had a time machine that could also clone people. Not too much to ask is it? We could have every game at every level refereed by Pierluigi Collina, with the real Pierluigi Collina as the VAR expert. Nobody could possibly argue any decision. Sorted.
