    Chelsea 1-0 Everton

Everton need to manage the next 10 minutes now. The home side have received a big shot in the arm with that goal and are threatening to get in again. At 1-0, the Toffees are still in it. But 2-0 is a very different proposition.

It's the first time Alonso has managed to get away from Iwobi on the left.

On this occasion, Iwobi just let him go. It was Iwobi just losing concentration - and Alonso takes full advantage.

    Ben Godfrey own goal

    Almost Havertz's big moment!

Marcos Alonso is found in space on the right of the Everton box and crosses low for the German to meet first time. He gets a bit of luck, with his side-foot finish deflecting in off Ben Godfrey.

The German gets the congratulations from his team-mates regardless.

    Chelsea 0-0 Everton

    Scramble!

The corner is half cleared but sent back in by Sigurdsson, sparking a bit of pinball between one set of players looking to get a goal-bound touch and the other dead set on clearing. Eventually, the latter win out.

    Chelsea 0-0 Everton

Digne hits it, but clips the top of the wall. The ball spins behind for a corner. Pressure still on the home side.

    Chelsea 0-0 Everton

Is that a foul? Well technically yes as the referee has given it. But I'm not sure Jorginho touched Richarlison.

It is right on the edge of the Chelsea box, though. Over to you, Lucas Digne...

    Chelsea 0-0 Everton

We've just been treated to Thomas Tuchel directing one or more of his German players. Unfortunately I don't speak German so have no idea what he said. Presumably, "you pass to him and you score a goal". Easy this management lark.

This has started like most Chelsea - Everton games. Chelsea with 80% possession, no doubt we'll have 25 shots, 12 on target. Everton will have 2 shots all game and win 2-0. #predictiontime.

    Chelsea 0-0 Everton

A few small signs that Everton are growing into the game and finding their feet. Richarlison sends over a cross from the left that is just too high for Calvert-Lewin to do anything effective with.

  10. 'Mount a huge asset'published at 18:23 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 0-0 Everton

    Lee Dixon
Former Arsenal and England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Mason Mount is a huge asset for Chelsea and England.

You have to rotate in the modern game and tonight it's his night to sit out.

Sometimes you learn more from sitting out and watching a game than you do playing in it - and sometimes you can play your best games when you're sat on the subs bench!

  11. Postpublished at 18:23 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 0-0 Everton

Richarlison looks to link up with Calvert-Lewin but the Brazilian misreads his team-mates intentions and side-foots a pass straight through for Mendy to gather.

  12. Postpublished at 18:22 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 0-0 Everton

Does this count as a shot? Probably not. Alex Iwobi chips a cross into the box that floats towards goal and is easily claimed by Edouard Mendy.

Seconds later, down the other end, a Chelsea break ends with Jordan Pickford plucking a Havertz cross from the right out of the air before Werner can meet it.

  13. Postpublished at 18:18 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 0-0 Everton

Still next to no sign of Everton as an attacking force.

  14. Postpublished at 18:18 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 0-0 Everton

The resulting free-kick is swung into the box and punched out to around 25 yards from goal by Jordan Pickford. Jorginho is again lurking and this time acrobatically fires his effort well wide.

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 18:17 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 0-0 Everton

Referee David Coote isn't messing about. Timo Werner is brought down by Mason Holgate in the Everton half and the visiting defender is booked. The German forward was looking to break.

Kaustubh Joshi: No Mount no Magic, side pass - back pass - side pass. This is going to be a tedious watch for us Chelsea fans.

Already Havertz looking miles off the pace. What on earth is he doing starting ahead of Mount in such an important game. Prove me wrong Kai, please!

    Close!

Reece James swings the ball in and Kurt Zouma rises to meet it. He is beaten in the air, with the ball dropping to Jorginho to half-volley a shot just past the post.

Chelsea have had a lot of the ball and Everton are relying on balls down the side to get Dominic Calvert-Lewin in.

Richarlison hasn't really had a kick yet.

Does Richarlison ever smile? A very surly lad. Good footballer, though.

He tries to get his side going in the Chelsea half, but is halted and has to settle for a throw.
