    Big chance for Richarlison!

He is found in the box and for once has some space. However, he snatches at his shot from a slight angle and slices it wide. He knows full well he should have done better.

  2. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 19:14 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 1-0 Everton

Very little has been different this half from the first so far, so Carlo Ancelotti turns to his bench. On comes Tom Davies for Alex Iwobi.

Jussi Nousiainen: Great thing about watching Chelsea is you never know who'll play. There have been surprises in every Tuchel starting XI

Dave Bookham: Chelsea bossing it, but second goal is crucial. Richarlison or DLC can score out of nothing.

Vhiztor: Alonso understands this system to a tee

  4. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 19:13 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 1-0 Everton

Kai Havertz thinks he has a goal for himself but the referee's whistle rules it out. It's for handball against the German, which is fair. He did use his bicep to help bring the ball down before turning and firing in.

We have the obligatory VAR check, but this simply confirms the on-field call.

    Close!

Marcos Alonso is having a fine game. He almost has a goal to show for it as his whipped free-kick is just a yard over the angle of bar and post.

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 19:09 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 1-0 Everton

Is that a yellow card? I don't think so. Lucas Digne clips Reece James to give Chelsea a free-kick on the right of the Everton box. Booking him feels a bit much, though.

  7. Postpublished at 19:07 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 1-0 Everton

Every time Richarlison gets the ball he has men swarming all over him. The home side clearly recognise just how much goes through him in an Everton side without James Rodriguez.

  8. Postpublished at 19:04 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 1-0 Everton

A nice run from Timo Werner takes him behind his marker and into the Everton box but Callum Hudson-Odoi's pass is just a touch too heavy to find him.

  9. KICK-OFFpublished at 19:03 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 1-0 Everton

Chelsea are undefeated in the last 36 games in the Premier League when ahead at half time, last losing v Wolves (1-2) in December 2018.

    Ominous for Everton.

The second half is under way.

They're playing Life of Riley by Lightning Seeds now at Stamford Bridge.

Can't hear it without thinking 'goal of the month'.

  12. Postpublished at 18:54 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 1-0 Everton

Interest that Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta took a moment to have a word with Kai Havertz after the goal. It has not gone how the German would have ideally liked since he moved to England for what was a pretty punchy fee. His team-mates will see just how good he is and Azpilicueta will likely be reminding him of that.

    HT: Chelsea 1-0 Everton

    Lee Dixon
Former Arsenal and England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Chelsea have had all the ball, they have pushed Everton back. The midfield of Everton have been chasing shadows.

They need to get Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison into the game or this game could drift away.

  14. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:47 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 1-0 Everton

One of these sides have looked very much a top-four one. Chelsea lead and have barely allowed Everton a sniff.

At 1-0, though, there remains life in the game.

  15. Postpublished at 18:46 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 1-0 Everton

Better from Everton. Lucas Digne's cross forces Mendy to come out and half-clear with his fist. Andre Gomes then fires a shot from the edge of the box that is saved by the Chelsea keeper.

Very very lucky for Havertz. If it doesn't hit Godfrey it's going miles wide and an absolutely awful miss.

Arjun Singh: Yes! Great start for Kai Havertz. Doubters please pipe down.

  17. Postpublished at 18:41 GMT 8 March 2021

Jordan Pickford has probably just kept his side in this game. For now. Marcos Alonso beats the offside trap and charges in on goal before firing a low shot that the Everton keeper palms past the post.

    Chelsea 1-0 Everton

To sum up how little punch Everton are providing up top, Richarlison gets the ball and has chance to run at goal but barely gets going before Andreas Christensen whips the ball off his toe.

  20. Postpublished at 18:37 GMT 8 March 2021

    Chelsea 1-0 Everton

Chelsea aren't just stroking the ball around well when they have it, they are grafting seriously hard to win it back when they don't. The Everton players can't cope at the moment.
