Everton have made great strides under Ancelotti. They may even get a top-four spot yet. But this game is demonstrating just how far they still have to go to be a consistent challenger near the top of the table.

Chelsea have looked in control from minute one.

Harish Lakka: Chelsea will finish second, 7 points from the top. This team is playing so much close to its full potential. Tuchel might fancy a good run in CL too. Great to watch.

Oh, that's a nasty moment for Kurt Zouma. There was nobody near him as he passed the ball before going down. Looks like he slipped just after the pass and may have done himself some damage.

Everton will take this chance to make another change...

It was a great run from Kai Havertz [to win the penalty]. It always looked like he'd get there first.

Havertz has been sharp all night.

Havertz can take a lot of encouragement from this game. It might even be his best in a Chelsea shirt.

The football rules folk have got themselves (and the game) into an almighty mess this season.

Was it really worse when we just used to grumble about bad refs down the pub after a game and then move on?

Lewis Chapman: What is the handball rule?! Genuinely?! I thought the t-shirt rule was a thing now, apparently not, I just don't understand anymore

Kev mcveigh: if that's handball then Werner's arm against Liverpool can't have been a part he could score with so not offside. Where's the consistency?

Tom Stacey: Werner was called offside against Liverpool with the same part of his arm Havertz has just used to control the ball which has been given as a handball... work that one out

It had to be disallowed. [If the ball had hit Kai Havertz] another couple of inches [higher up his arm] and we might have been here another half an hour looking a replays

Normally, your first impression is about right until you start analysing it microscopically.

We said initially it was handball - and it was.
