    Spartak Moscow 0-1 Rangers

Spartak keeper Aleksandr Maksimenko is in all sorts of bother as he tries to deal with an awkward back-pass, slicing his kick up in the air. It lands at the feet of Scott Arfield in the penalty area but the Rangers midfielder can't get it under control.

There's no doubt they're putting a lot of pressure on now. They've turned it up a level, Spartak, since that goal went in from Rangers.

    Spartak Moscow 0-1 Rangers

Ivelin Popov drives at the heart of the Rangers defence at pace and has Nikola Katic in trouble but rather than shooting he goes for a dramatic tumble and earns a booking for his troubles.

The stadium is less than half-full but the crowd behind Allan McGregor’s goal is pretty vociferous and from that area a flare was fired earlier on, missing Connor Goldson by just a few metres.

  7. GREAT SAVE!published at 9 mins

    Spartak Moscow 0-1 Rangers

Salvatore Bocchetti connects perfectly with a thumping long-range volley and Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor needs to look lively to tip it over the top.

I don't know what the defender was thinking but there was no-one on the post. They look at sixes and sevens at the back.

What a start this is. It's an own goal, it's madness from the defender. He headers it down the way towards his own goalkeeper when it should have been headed back towards where the corner was taken. It's the perfect start for Rangers.

GOAL Spartak Moscow 0-1 Rangerspublished at 5 mins

    Eremenko own goal

What a start for Rangers! A dangerous pass from Scott Arfield is cut out at the expense of a corner and from it Roman Eremenko closes his eyes and sticks a header past his own keeper, under pressure from Lassana Coulibaly.

Dreadful defending, much to Rangers' delight.

Spartak probably are in turmoil, but I remember playing in Europe and you would always get the story and yet your opponents would come out and play well. I think Rangers need something from tonight's game to progress

  14. 'We want to carry a threat'- Gerrard says changes add pacepublished at 17:53 GMT 8 November 2018

    Spartak Moscow v Rangers (17:55)

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard says he's picked a side with plenty of pace to test Spartak. He told BT Sport: "We're coming here to win the game, if we can't do that we want to take something.

"Our game plan will be to be tough to beat but we want to carry a threat and we've put some pace in the team to do that.

"We expect Spartak to be more open, more aggressive because at Ibrox they didn't really want to go and win the game they just wanted to take something and they got that unfortunately from our point of view.

"We're certainly better than the last time we were in Russia [against FC Ufa in the Europa League play-off round]. I believe the longer the game goes on the more nervous they'll get with this crowd. We want to be positive, we want to be bold and brave."

  15. Rangers moved to complain about Collumpublished at 17:52 GMT 8 November 2018

    Spartak Moscow v Rangers (17:55)

Daniel Candeias made the all important breakthrough in Paisley at the weekend but the substitute's day ended on a sour note as he was shown a second yellow card in the final seconds.

Willie Collum booked the winger for celebrating his opening goal with fans and another followed after an exchange with St Mirren's Anton Ferdinand.

The Ibrox club appealed against the second booking on the grounds of mistaken identity, but it was rejected earlier today.

Manager Steven Gerrard called the second yellow card "embarrassing" and Rangers say they will now make a formal complaint about Collum's performance.

  16. Win at St Mirren ends Rangers' stutterpublished at 17:49 GMT 8 November 2018

    Spartak Moscow v Rangers (17:55)

Rangers followed their 0-0 home draw with Spartak with a League Cup semi-final defeat to Aberdeen, while Kilmarnock held on for a 1-1 at Ibrox.

Steven Gerrard's side struggled for fluency in the final third in all of those games and for 80 minutes on Saturday it looked like being a similarly frustrating story at St Mirren before Daniel Candeias found the top corner with what might have been a cross, with Alfredo Morelos grabbing a second goal in stoppage time.

Morelos is on 14 goals for the season and never gives defenders a moment's peace.

  17. Rangers enjoy good Russian recordpublished at 17:46 GMT 8 November 2018

    Spartak Moscow v Rangers (17:55)

Rangers have a positive record against Russian opponents, with eight wins and only two losses from 14 matches.

Away to Russian sides there has been one loss from six trips, although two wins did come on neutral territory.

The only away draw came earlier this season, when they held FC Ufa 1-1 in the play-off round, despite two red cards, to secure a 2-1 aggregate success. A good few fingernails were chewed that night as Rangers held on to reach the group stage.
