That was a definite penalty - clear contact. I'm looking at the referee thinking he's given a penalty - they got off with that one.

  5. YELLOW CARD Melgarejo (Spartak)published at 76 mins

    Spartak Moscow 4-3 Rangers

Connor Goldson is a lucky boy as he goes to ground in a bid to halt a marauding run from Lorenzo Melgarejo. The Spartak left-back goes down and cannot believe it when he's shown a yellow card for simulation.

It's one of those when the ref thinks the player has left a leg in to make sure there is contact.

    A big let-off for Rangers.

  6. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 74 mins

    Spartak Moscow 4-3 Rangers

The Rangers defence is static as Salvatore Bocchetti slams a header from a free-kick against the crossbar. The rebound falls to the feet of the Italian defender and his follow-up effort is kept out by a great reaction save from Allan McGregor.

Ryan Jack has been warming up most of the second half but as Rangers trail, Steven Gerrard is yet to roll the dice in terms of changes in personnel. That’s been a familiar thread during his reign, but Rangers need something to change - and quickly.

  8. No time for heads to droppublished at 19:25 GMT 8 November 2018

    Spartak Moscow 4-3 Rangers

Alfredo Morelos looks disconsolate as Spartak claim their fourth goal to take the lead.

If it stays like this, Rangers will drop from first to third in Group G. It's still goalless in Austria between Rapid Vienna and Villarreal.

A long way to go though...

I think Rangers still have a chance. Spartak have certainly been better in second half. Gerrard has got to do something to cause their defence some problems. To get something out of this game they've got to change formation and throw caution to the wind and get themselves forward.

  10. YELLOW CARD Bocchetti (Spartak)published at 63 mins

    Spartak 4-3 Rangers

A Rangers attack fizzles out, with Daniel Candeias offside. The referee had allowed play to continue after a brutal challenge from Salvatore Bocchetti on Alfredo Morales and now the Italian is shown the yellow card.

I've not seen a game at this level of football for a long time with such lax defending. We talked about whether that fourth goal for Rangers from Morelos which was ruled out, even though it was onside, would come back to haunt them. The answer to that looks to be yes.

    Sofiane Hanni

Incredible! Spartak lead for the first time as Sofiane Hanni gallops down the middle and lets fly. The shot takes a deflection off a lunging Connor Goldson and the ball whizzes beyond Allan McGregor.

I think there was a little bit of contact but not enough for Popov to go down. Away from home you're inviting the ref to make the decision. Rangers are not defending well enough and McGregor is coming to the rescue - the ref made the right decision

It's a difficult decision about how to play it for Rangers, do you sit in now and protect the 3-2 lead - they've not done that too well so far in this game. Or do you go for the throat and try and get another goal? The way Spartak have been defending Rangers can definitely score. It's a bit of a balancing act.

Ivelin Popov, booked in the first half for diving, goes down very easily in the box again. The Spartak midfielder is lucky to avoid a second yellow.

    Spartak Moscow 2-3 Rangers

We don't have to wait long for the attacking drama to resume as Sofiane Hanni smashes in a low shot and Allan McGregor does really well to stick out a foot and divert the ball over the crossbar.
