Spartak look all over the place. Everybody's going forward. The two central defenders are defending in Rangers' half and getting caught on the break. The defensive side of this game has been poor. Flanagan's been suspect anytime Spartak players come near him.

  3. Same again for Celticpublished at 18:53 GMT 8 November 2018

    Celtic v RB Leipzig (20:00)

Manager Brendan Rodgers picks the same side that hammered Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts 5-0 at the weekend. They'll need an even better performance, you would think, if they're to beat RB Leipzig this evening.

Celtic XI: Gordon, Lustig, Boyata, Benkovic, Tierney, McGregor, Christie, Rogic, Forrest, Sinclair, Edouard.

It's a much tamer affair in the other Group G match, with Rapid Vienna and Villarreal going into the interval all square at 0-0.

  5. HALF-TIME Spartak Moscow 2-3 Rangerspublished at 18:45 GMT 8 November 2018

And breathe... What a crazy 45 minutes.

We've had two own goals, some slapstick defending five goals and a close call for a sixth...

Rangers lead and look like they could score every time they attack the very shaky home rearguard.

What an astonishing first half in the Otkritie Arena. There are definitely signs of discontent from within the home stands, as there have been in recent times. If Rangers were able to open up a two-goal advantage, you get the impression the crowd might really turn on the Spartak team

Incredible. The score could be anything if both defences continue like this. That last goal came out of nothing. Morelos tries to play the pass forward and it reaches Middleton. What a first half!

  8. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 43 mins

    Spartak Moscow 2-3 Rangers

Spartak are all over the place once more as Daniel Candeias hammers over a cross from the right and Alfredo Morelos is all alone as he gathers and smashes a shot in. An offside flag is up though... That was tight. Very tight.

  9. goal

GOAL Spartak Moscow 2-3 Rangerspublished at 41 mins

    Glenn Middleton

Alfredo Morelos has his progress impeded by a defender, who can only send what turns out to be a perfect pass into the path of Glenn Middleton.

The teenager laps up the gift and drills a shot under keeper Aleksandr Maksimenko.

    Steven Thompson

    Quote Message

Only Connor Goldson will know why he went with his right foot for this, it's inexplicable. He slashes it straight into the goal. It's horrendous defending, it's a horrendous own goal. He's got to go with his left foot, it's a huge error.

  12. goal

GOAL Spartak Moscow 2-2 Rangerspublished at 35 mins

    Connor Goldson own goal

A calamitous moment for Connor Goldson! A great ball over the top from Ivelin Popov sets Nikolai Rasskazov scampering into the penalty box. The full-back fires in a low delivery and Goldson goes with the outside of his right foot when it looks easier to use his left and sends the ball on a freakish arc into the far corner of the net.

  13. YELLOW CARD Coulibaly (Rangers)published at 34 mins

    Spartak Moscow 1-2 Rangers

Ouch! From the corner, Lassana Coulibaly dives in on goalkeeper Aleksandr Maksimenko rather late.

  14. Postpublished at 33 mins

    Spartak Moscow 1-2 Rangers

Almost a second own goal from Spartak as Salvatore Bocchetti throws himself at a low cross from Glenn Middleton at diverts it inches wide.

  15. YELLOW CARD Fernando (Spartak)published at 30 mins

    Spartak Moscow 1-2 Rangers

A stray arm from Fernando leaves Lassana Coulibaly floored and holding his nose. A booking for the Brazilian midfielder.

    Spartak Moscow 1-2 Rangers

    Steven Thompson

    Quote Message

It wasn't as if Rangers were creating opportunities, it didn't look in the pipeline. It's a very good ball from Flanagan, but the defender has to match the run of Candeias. The finish is emphatic, though.

  17. goal

GOAL Spartak Moscow 1-2 Rangerspublished at 26 mins

    Daniel Candeias

More generous defending from the hosts allows Daniel Candeias to race through the middle unchecked and spin on a lofted pass from Jon Flanagan before tucking away a cool, low shot from near the edge of the penalty area.

    Quote Message

Popov puts a really dangerous ball to the back post, it evades everybody except Melgarejo. You have to say, on the balance of play and the domination of possession since Rangers scored, Spartak deserve to be back in this match.

  19. goal

GOAL Spartak Moscow 1-1 Rangerspublished at 22 mins

    Lorenzo Melgarejo

Ivelin Popov swings in a lovely cross from the right and there are two Spartak players throwing themselves at it near the back post.

Lorenzo Melgarejo powers it in with his head. There's no stopping that.

  20. Gerrard far from relaxed despite leadpublished at 18:19 GMT 8 November 2018

    Spartak Moscow 0-1 Rangers

    Alasdair Lamont
    BBC Sport Scotland in Moscow

Steven Gerrard doesn’t look entirely comfortable as he observes proceedings from the edge of his technical area. He’ll clearly be delighted at being a goal up, but Spartak are enjoying too much pressure in the final third for his liking.
