Javel: Have we used up all our quota of last-minute drama in the earlier games, or is there a drop or two to squeeze out in this round still?

    Japan 0-1 Poland

A reminder - if Poland score again, Japan are out.

If Japan get a red card, they are out.

If Senegal equalise against Colombia, Japan are out.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 83 mins

    Japan 0-1 Poland

Japan make their final change and it's not Keisuke Honda or Shinji Kagawa. Captain Makoto Hasebe is the man on, and Yoshinori Muto is off.

Corner to Poland as Tomoaki Makino clears a cross but they can't turn it into a goal.

Double change for Poland, Slawomir Peszko and Lukasz Teodorczyk come on, Rafal Kurzawa and Piotr Zielinski come off.

    Japan 0-1 Poland

If Japan lose this 2-0, they will go out on goal difference. So while they don't need to score right now (if the other game stays the same) another Poland goal will send them out.

  7. Japan are qualifying!published at 16:37 BST 28 June 2018

    Japan 0-1 Poland

Japan have now moved back into qualifying position!

Colombia go top of the group thanks to that goal over Senegal.

Senegal MUST find an equaliser otherwise they're going home...

Unless Japan get two yellow cards...

    Or Japan concede again.

Steve: Looks like Robert Lewandowski is doing everything he can to convince people he's actually a terrible footballer.

    Japan 0-1 Poland

So now Japan don't need to score - unless Senegal equalise.

Barcelona defender Yerry Mina has just put Colombia ahead against Senegal. Which means as things stand Japan would go through because of picking up fewer yellow cards than Senegal.

The problem is Japan need the goal, but they only had five players in the box from that corner. Get more bodies in there.

    Japan 0-1 Poland

Japan have a corner, which Gaku Shibasaki takes and Maya Yoshida glances a header wide.

Surely that would be the first time two different Southampton defenders have scored in a World Cup game.

  18. Postpublished at 16:30 BST 28 June 2018

Basically Japan just need a goal - to either side - in the other game.

  19. What Japan need now...published at 16:29 BST 28 June 2018

    Japan 0-1 Poland

Should Colombia score now in their game with Senegal, Japan would move back into a qualifying position - but only into second place.

It's all very confusing but basically Japan have two less yellow cards than Senegal.

    Fine margins...

If Senegal beat Colombia, then Japan move back into second.

Equally, if Japan equalised here, they would move into second place.

    Japan 0-1 Poland

Substitute Takashi Inui has scored three goals in his last three games for Japan - this after scoring just two in his previous 26 caps.
