  1. Lewandowski's strugglespublished at 14:30 BST 28 June 2018

Poland striker Robert Lewandowski has had a disappointing tournament.

After banging 16 goals in 10 qualifiers, he has yet to notch in Russia.

He has scored 21 goals in his last 17 appearances for Poland. Their only four defeats in that time are the four games he hasn't scored in.

If they need to draw lots to decide who wins this group or goes through - basically if Japan and Senegal have the exact same scoreline today and have the same amount of yellow cards by the end of these games, Fifa will broadcast the drawing of lots at 17:00 BST in the media room at the Luzhniki Stadium.

This group has proved the most difficult to call so far, and Japan have surprised me the most.

They only need a point to be sure of going through - but if Poland play the way they can, then they should win.

    Prediction: 2-0 to Poland

Lawro predicts 1-1 for Senegal v Colombia, which would eliminate Japan

For Japan, out go defender Gen Shoji, midfielders Makoto Hasebe, Genki Haraguchi, Takashi Inui and Shinji Kagawa and forward Yuya Osako.

In come Leicester forward Shinji Okazaki, frontman Yoshinori Muto, midfielders Hotaru Yamaguchi and Takashi Usami and defenders Gotoku Sakai and Tomoaki Makino.

One of Japan's expected changes was goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima being dropped after high-profile mistakes but he keeps his place.

Poland bring in West Ham keeper Lukasz Fabianski, defenders Kamil Glik and Artur Jedrzejczyk, Hull midfielder Kamil Grosicki and Rafal Kurzawa.

Wojciech Szczesny, Lukasz Piszczek, Michal Pazdan, Maciej Rybus and Dawid Kownacki drop out.

  10. 'We can't play for a draw'published at 14:00 BST 28 June 2018

    Japan v Poland (15:00 BST)

Japan captain Makoto Hasebe (who is one of the players left out today): “Four points from two games is a decent result, but we haven’t achieved anything yet.

“When we step out on to that pitch, we have to think solely about winning. You won’t get the result when you hope that a draw will be enough.

"Japan are not the kind of team that can aim for a point and go and carry [a negative] plan out.

"I think we have to focus on getting three points rather than make calculations. We have four points after two games but we haven't accomplished anything yet."

In a surprising move, Japan make six changes despite being unbeaten and still needing a result.

Poland - who are already out - only make five.

  12. Japan's startpublished at 13:52 BST 28 June 2018

Japan have got four points from their opening two games. They took advantage of Carlos Sanchez's early red card to shock Colombia 2-1 in the opener.

They then drew 2-2 with Senegal in a lively match in Ekaterinburg.

  13. Poland's startpublished at 13:48 BST 28 June 2018

Poland are facing their first World Cup without a win since 1938 if they do not succeed today.

In 1938, it was a straight knockout tournament and they lost 6-5 in extra time to Brazil in round one. Ernst Willimowski scored four goals on his one and only World Cup appearance.

This time has not been as dramatic - they have lost 2-1 to Senegal and 3-0 to Colombia.

  14. The other game...published at 13:44 BST 28 June 2018

You can follow the other game in this group - Senegal v Colombia - on a dedicated live page here.

But we will be bringing you any goal updates, especially those that impact Japan's hopes, here.

  15. Permutationspublished at 13:39 BST 28 June 2018

    Japan v Poland (15:00 BST)

Japan only need a point today against eliminated Poland to reach the last 16.

If they lose, they can still go through. That's IF Senegal beat Colombia in the other game. They COULD also go through if Colombia beat Senegal - if the African side lose by more goals than Japan do. If they lose by the exact same score, then it comes to yellow cards.

If Japan and Senegal win by the exact same score, then the group winners will be decided by yellow cards.

At the moment, Japan have three yellow cards to Senegal's five so would finish above them.
