Robin Johnson: For those of you concerned about me after the last T20I, I’m not changing my opinion. England don’t have the bowling attack to win the WC but Australia do - and as we all know, bowlers win matches.

  2. Eng 18-1published at 3 overs

Pat Cummins tries a bouncer but Dawid Malan is on it in a flash and pulls the ball over mid-wicket for another boundary.

That's one of the first genuinely poor balls of the innings. It got what it deserved.

  4. Eng 14-1published at 2.2 overs

Australia using all three of their pace options up top as Pat Cummins bowls the third over.

His first delivery clips the inside edge of Jos Buttler's bat and onto the pad for a single.

Australia bring in a second slip for Dawid Malan, but Malan plays a beautiful shot through mid-wicket for four.

Malan looks to be picking up where he left off on Wednesday. Great shot.

  5. Eng 9-1published at 2 overs

Jos Buttler pushes the final ball of the over towards mid-off and immediately sets off for a single. Good running.

That won't tarnish what has been a superb over from Josh Hazlewood. Right on the money.

  6. Eng 8-1published at 1.3 overs

Dawid Malan, who hit 82 off 49 balls in the second T20, is the new batter and gets off the mark first ball with a check drive towards mid-off.

That's one of the easiest catches for Aaron Finch to take. It took an age to get to him. It hit the perfect spot from Hazlewood.

Alex Hales out for a second-ball duck!

It is a perfect line and length from Josh Hazlewood as he lures Hales into pushing at the ball and edging straight to Aaron Finch for a routine catch at first slip.

    Great start for Australia!

Starc has got the seam pretty much perfect, but he hasn't got the line right.

  10. Eng 7-0published at 1 overs

Jos Buttler clips off his pads for the first runs off the bat as Starc struggles with his line a bit.

Another leg-sideish delivery flicks fine off Buttler's pads for four leg-byes.

Starc is on the money with the final delivery though as Buttler does well to dig one out off his toes.

It's a strange one. I would have thought Aaron Finch would have changed it up at the toss, to at least get some variety in the preparation.

  12. Eng 1-0published at 0.0 overs

Plenty of swing for Mitchell Starc first up, too much swing in fact, as the ball flies down leg for a wide.

It looks pretty chilly in Canberra as the teams head out into the middle. There's lots of long sleeves among the Australia team.

Short sleeves all the way for Alex Hales and Jos Buttler, though. They will should feel right at home in this weather.

Mitchell Starc will open the bowling for Australia.

    • England have won six of their last seven men’s T20Is against Australia (L1), including their last three in succession; although, neither team has won more than three consecutive games in the history of this fixture.
    • Australia have lost their last two men’s T20Is at home, the last time they went on a longer losing run in such fixtures was a five-match span from January 2016 to February 2017.
    • England have won their last four men’s T20Is away from home; the last time they won more in succession on the road was a six-match span between February 2020 and March 2021.
    • If England win the third match of this multigame bilateral men’s T20I series against Australia, it will be the first time they have whitewashed Australia (3-0) in such a series; the last time England won a series in this manner was against Sri Lanka in June 2021 (3-0).

England's Chris Woakes speaking on BT Sport: "It's great to be turning up going into the last game having won the series, meaning you can experiment a little bit. But the guys want to get some form going into the tournament next week. The guys are feeling good, winning can become a habit so we will obviously try to win the game and take the series."

"You want to have guys delivering their strengths but Jos is keen for the guys to be adaptable and bowl at any time they are required. Our strength is with the batting line-up, like most sides in T20 cricket. So the fact they have defended scores in the last two games is really good moving forward."

England captain Jos Buttler: "We'd have liked to have bowled purely because we batted first in the previous two.

"We want to try and raise the level of intensity again. We have come up against a brilliant side. We have played well in the first two games to win and be 2-0 up. But we very much see this as an independent game and we want to keep trending in the right direction.

"We've played lots of cricket against Australia and those players in particular. They are good players, good bowlers. But it is more about adapting to the conditions of the wicket and playing what's in front of you on the day."

  19. Postpublished at 08:55 BST 14 October 2022

Australia captain Aaron Finch: "We've got to get better at chasing. It's been something that over the last little period we've stumbled a few times. We still think it's the right call on this wicket. All the stats suggest that it is. I don't think it is going to get any worse over the 40 overs.

"Myself and Glenn Maxwell will open today. Maxy's record is as good as anyone who has played the game. We back him to be able to take it on in the powerplay and we'll see how we go from there. His record of many years has been unbelievable, especially in that middle order. He has a few ideas about the game and will tinker with a few things. So you let them go enough and have a few conversations here and there.

"It was just one of those nights when we let a couple of chances slip [in the second T20]. It's not panic stations by any stretch but it would be nice to sharpen it up a bit."

  20. Australia win the toss and will bowlpublished at 08:53 BST 14 October 2022

Australia captain Aaron Finch has won the toss again and, for the third time this series, elects to have a bowl first.

Australia make one change with David Warner missing out with a minor neck injury sustained in the second T20. Steve Smith comes in.

England make two changes with Chris Woakes and Mark Wood replacing Sam Curran and Chris Jordan.
